Al Hilal (N) | CWC | Post Match Thread

Cant understand how Gonzalez,Kushnov and Reiss cant get any game time.Dias and Akanji time is up.
Can't understand why we bought them.
Pep does this and it's damned annoying.

Why buy players that we clearly need and then not play them. I can see a season of the old guard getting repeatedly caught out again. It's like the club have to sell them to stop Pep picking them.

I'm a bit thick, what does drivel mean?
Is that when a player runs with the ball down the wing?
I'm a bit new to this post match bed wetting.
Drivel. Nonsense. Pointless garbage comments. Call it bed wetting if you like. Don’t care about it if you aren’t interested. I presume you haven’t paid over £5k to come to America to watch this tournament as I have so maybe this defeat means a little less to you.

Not much changed. We miss chance after chance, can’t stop the counter and the opponents score with every shot on target.
Missed the game but this is a tough read. How many fucking times do we have to do this before we learn??? It's like we've regressed to Pep's first season and Jamie Vardy scoring for fun against us again.

silver lining in all this is that player will have a long rest period and will give Vianna more time to make the necessary moves on incomings/outgoings

Just watched the highlights and it looked like it was a case of same old story?

Really disappointed to see a lot of the same old faces out there, those that essentially caused a lot of the problems last season. A starting midfield 3 that contains Bernie and Gundo, is just footballing suicide. Pep, like the rest of us has seen enough of this to understand, seemingly, he has learned nothing.

Bernie as captain is just as worrying. Picking a guy to lead the side, who arguably should no longer be at the club after serving up utter shite for 2 years, is crazy. It was the same with Walker when he got the gig and again, it looks like Pep has learned nothing. Granted, I doubt Bernie will be getting his cock out in public, so he does have that over Walker.

There was clearly come positives from this tournament but unless Pep removes his blinkers, I fear we will see much of the same next season. He places far too much trust in players that are either well and truly past it, injury-prone, or a mixture of both. Theres no point in spending the money we have, if Peps default position is to go back to what worked 3 years ago but clearly doesn’t work now. I can honestly see a situation 6 weeks into the new season, where half of the new signings are nowhere near the starting XI and we are still wheeling out crocks and OAPs every week.

Hopefully the lads get a decent rest now and Pep uses this time to decide on some serious changes for the start of the season.

Khusanov would of been torn to shreds tonight, no way is capable YET of competing against the guys who are in front of him if not he would be playing simples. He's an accident waiting to happen and looks like a rabbit in the headlights, just coz he's a youngster and we all want this fairytale of youth been given a chance does not make it right to throw them in and potentially damage them and us
Wow. Are you joking? He was our breath of fresh air and player of the month before Pep took him off for conceding a first half yellow card. He was our one defender who was up to scratch. Pep's subsequent treatment of him is more likely to "damage them and us." But I think that Khusi will rise above it all and show how wrong Pep has been. Akanji and Ruben together are becoming the rabbits in the headlights, not Khusi.

That’s the hope I’m clinging to now as well, hopefully he’s seen enough to make a few decisions for Pep.

Everyone blaming the defence but if City had taken their first half chances it would have been over by half time.

While Peps favourites are still here, nothing will change in that regard.

We had such a favorable path to the final and we lose to Al-Hilal who was missing 2 main strikers in extra time? Ederson and Akanji need to pack the bags. Also, I don't understand why Pep has such a problem putting out the best possible squad and stick with it. Other clubs always do it all the times no matter what.

Only outgoing now. I don’t think City or Viana are the knee jerk type after a loss

Yep, agreed. I’d add as I’ve put separately, that we can only hope Viana has the strength to make some of these tough decisions for Pep.

I actually think this might be a good thing. I think we’ve played too many games and the players are at risk of more injuries

What a load of fucking shit. No change from that shitshow season then.

Is it because we try and make cheaper signings instead of statements like Wirtz?

Or just because our defence is fucking wank?

Well it’s highlighted the need for speed at back, same old shit at the back when playing such a highline, Pep seems to learn fuck all from that. We play great with fullbacks overlapping and crossing in and what do we do, revert to inverted fucking wingers, Savinho produced sod all. They deserved to beat us but they had one game plan and it worked fuck knows what ours was as it constantly changed. They were a bunch of moaning fuckers but I do think they had a point on our first goal that was handball all the way.
The only plus point is the lads get a rest now but Pep needs to decide on a better system he reverted to last year and it was crap.

Under no circumstances should we ever be losing to a Saudi team full of has-beens. People can spin it however they like but for me this is perhaps the most disappointing result we’ve had over the past year. We had an easy path to the final and completely bottled it. Thought we’d turned a corner but think we’ve got to brace ourselves for more of the same shit served up as last season
