Pep Guardiola - 2025/26

Yes if that happens, and if it does Pep will know himself, only a couple of days ago most were saying how against Juventus we were staring to look like our old selves, and Pep had his mojo back,as we did for 45 minutes this morning, yet because we lost we get the usual posts from the usual suspects.

Same problems were there against Juve. Just the scoreline and attack masked the defensive fragility of our defence, also Rodri just did what Rodri does.

Juve looked dangerous on the counter when they did break. We were very good in attack but our defence still was showing signs during that game of last season. Akanji ball watching for their goal. Nunes that game was our best defender.

Same as this morning attack looks like our attack of old. Should’ve been out of sight. Defence still like last season same with the midfield without Rodri there’s no protection.

Because most who were applauding those periods don't realize the best of Italy are about midtable in the PL. Sure they can defend similarly, but the average PL team is much more ruthless on the counter.

I would say after we won the treble. The players gave it there all to win 4 in a row but the signs were there all that season. We were poor in a lot of games but scraped wins and won’t the league against bottlers and no other challengers

That’s what I’m getting at re Wenger Arsenal wouldn’t pull the trigger on him even tho he wasn’t bringing the club backwards at the rate of knots. As rival fans looking at Arsenal and Wenger we all knew he was funded but all loved it when he stayed “another” season I bet rivals are starting to think the same about Pep

We got 92 points in 2023/24 and reached the cup final.
I bet rival fans would be celebrating in the street if we sacked Pep.
You sound like a spoilt brat.

Never mind more new players the big question is who have we got lined up as manager. We must have some idea as we've just spent 300 million. Presumably Viana is in charge of this.
Pep's not getting sacked so just move on from that idea. He's more likely to walk if things don't turn around which maybe leaves us in a worse position if it's a sudden decision. Don't think he would because he's honorable enough to see through his contract and get this right and in a good place for his successor.

Losing in a time of transition is acceptable to a point. Losing while persisting with the same underperforming old players while new signings rot on the bench is a waste of opportunities and resources. Would rather lose giving minutes to O’Reilly, Khusanov, and Bobb than getting the same old stuff from Dias, Akanji and Gundo. Roll the fucking dice for once because it’s looking like we’re right back where we were in March.
This is what worried me. That was last seasons performance that had last seasons team. I dont know the fitness, conditioning of the players so I hope it was just that taken in to account to have them ready for the league opener. But really only foden and rodri come in to that category. I think everyone else is ok bar stones who i think is out.

So then why no marmoush and Cherki with the full backs wide?

lets be honest would be ridiculous if we end up doing same things tactically as last season with a complete backroom overhaul...

the thing is while Al Hilal was quite decent vs Real as I recall but in 270 mins of group games they scored a pen vs Real, 0-0 vs Salzburg then 2 goals vs Pachucha of which one was in the 95th min. how we allowed them to score 4 in 120 mins is a joke. was deffo bit like the Sporting and Feyenoord games.

Correct he is not getting sacked but I don't think he´ll stay the full 2 years. I think if we carry on performing badly after all this expenditure, he'll do the decent thing.
And in the unlikely event we improve, unlikely in my opinion because it looks a mess, then he can hand over in a good place a season early.

Enlighten us.
Without saying "look at what he's won", preferably.

The hysterical reaction is wild from some quarters. We're forming hot takes based on a competition that a) means fuck all to most of us b) is either bolted on to a crammed 24/25 season or an EXTREMELY early 25/26 prr season but either way is fucking terribly timed and c) played in horrible conditions.

The prism we SHOULD be looking through is its given a chance for us to get business done early and for us to settle new squad members. Now our players can go and have a well needed break before the real work starts.

They've been playing none stop for 11 months near enough (longer for guys that went deep in the Euros).

Let's give everyone a chance to recover and more than two weeks to learn new relationships, allow the new coaching staff ideas to take seed eh?

We were winning the league at a cantor at the weekend and now half the thread are Pep out. The joys of this place at times.

And whilst you mention it, Pep does absofuckinglutely have plenty of credit in the bank based on his past record. Short memories and all that.

I think what this reminded me of is the difference between Barca and PSG.

I think in prior games we looked more like PSG, controlled possession, and not vulnerable in the back.

This game reminded me more of Barca, we attacked (sometimes in lieu of possession), and we're vulnerable in the back.

I prefer us playing more the PSG style, rather than the crazy Barca way.

We have a really good squad now and it’s got a lot of youth. I think viana has plugged a lot of holes, so if and when someone comes in they’ve got a lot to work with.

Biggest problem is pep will not use the new guys. We have tools to deal with teams that want to play deep and break at pace. Pep ignores them. I hope we see change when the season starts proper so I’ll hold fire.

I’m not doubting that was a great season what I’m saying is the warning signs were setting in around then. Any way I’m off to blizzard beach to take me mind off it. Have a good summer and hopefully I’m wrong on everything for next season

Fair point, however lets remember PSG before Christmas last season were not the PSG of the second half of the season and had their struggles and a league stage of the CL were they could easily have missed out on the knockouts. These games aren’t the yardstick for how the coming season will pan out.

Best post in this thread.

If we carry on starting Akanji, Gundo, Bernardo, Ake, etc. it won't change.

We need to give our new, young players a chance and stop wasting them. I don't care if we win or lose as long as we build for the future. This is just going downhill.

Yeah and even that shower of shite we played in the first game could quite easily have scored 2 or 3

Also at a time that we're moaning about the packed schedule, refusing to play some of the players who have played the least so far this year, rather than a bunch of over-30s who've played more than most players in the world.
