Hugo Viana | Director of Football

big decision needed on GK question. to me Ederson feels like his heart not in it anymore. he wouldnt mind to take 3/4x the salary and play around in Saudi imo...
Ortega not good enough to be #1.

RB is a must, but the HG quota make is quite awkward as it needs to be HG likely and that adds so much more to the fee.

and then the deadwood/old and past it players/players looking to move due to lack of game time etc.

Stones, Grealish, McAtee, Walker all must go. cant see them getting any meaningful game time if they stay. Stones would, but he wouldnt be fit for consecutive 3 games like ever.
but if we ennd up keeping him than Ake or Akanji could go, probably Akanji I would let go of the two right now he really regressed more.

Gundo can be thanked as well.

plus bunch of potetial loan moves around to sort, Echeverri maybe or Reis plus some current guys out on loan to be decided on.

so overall still shit load of work for Viana, and while early start was great by getting the 3 new faces in for good prices, next two months he has lot of business to be done. getting a decent fee for Grealish can be the hardest .

Go back to bed and when you wake up, get out the other side FFS.

Viana's biggest task is getting Pep to stop playing his mates, imo. Stop relying on the Gundo's and Akanjis. Time for the new lads to step in.

As I say, two important months ahead.

If we were going to rely on the young players next season, then I would have expected them to have featured more prominently in this tournament. As it stands, however, Guardiola has continued instead to rely on his experienced players, suggesting many of them may be staying.

I think there could be a few surprise departures.
I agree that if it was down solely to Guardiola, then he’d stick with the experienced core of the squad and he’ll continue to pick them if they’re available.

I do wonder however if the club will move a few of them on regardless and force a change of direction, which would be intriguing given how new Viana is to the role. Squad size would appear to be another area of contention.

Viana has done good work in this window, but his hands have been tied by what went before, including last winter. It’s going to take another 2 windows to sort it out.

So is Hugo done for the season, or until January, as regards more new players?

The new signings have been really good. I’m proper fed up of the old guard though. Need to cut a couple before the season starts. Gundo and Akanji, possibly Stones as well.
Sorry but anybody who matched he whole game live would not say that Ait Nouri was good. He was shite last night. As I said in an earlier post good going forward but defensively terrible. It was like watching Trent Alexander

Eh? I watched the whole game live and he was one of the better players

Need to cull the herd now the CWC is over.

Ake - 10M€
Akanji - 10M€
Stones - 20M€
Gundo - Free
Grealish 45M€
McAtee 35M€

That’s 120M€, which covers the Summer spend. Add in the CWC money, and we are at about 165M€, so have money for an attacking RB.

If we get one, maybe we ship out Nunes for 45M€, too, and bank some money or fill in any holes Pep sees, such as a back-up for Cherki next season after Bernardo leaves, unless he moves Nunes forward and does bring in a RB!

Ederson/Ortega/Bettinelli

Nunes/Lewis/NEW RB
Dias/Khusanov
Gvardiol/Reis
RAN/O’Reilly

Cherki/Bernardo
Rodri/Kovacic/Gonzales
Reijnders/Foden

Savinho/Bobb
Haaland/Marmoush
Doku/Echeverri

I’d take that squad right now!
Based on the last few weeks I'd be feckin amazed if Khusanov/Reis and Gonzales are still around come September.
For whatever reason Pep just isn't interested in playing them - so no sense them hanging around.
I wonder if there's a disconnect between Viana working on "data" signings (assuming he had input in January), and what Guardiola actually sees. If that is the case we're screwed until one of them leaves

Which won't be Viana as we've spent time getting him in to do exactly the sort of job he's doing repairing Txiki's fuck ups the last few years. If Pep can't get a rune out if this lot he needs to retire

All very young foreigners trying to adapt to both the PL and Pepball.

Give them a minute.
We can't though - there's no point in them just sitting around the campus and training with no game time.
The simplistic conversation between Viana and Guardiola is - "which of these players will you actually play??"
We all have opinions (most seem to be removing the older players - which I agree with), but if Pep turns round and says "they're not playing" we need to find options for them

If there are disagreements over players between Guardiola and Viana, next season could be a shambles.

If there is a disconnect, Pep has to go sooner rather than later.
