Look at the attendances for this compared to the World Cup and the Euros. Footballs global appeal does not need the CWC to prosper.

The global tv audience for the PL and CL proves that we don’t need a CWC.
I was happy to support it while we were still in it, but I’m not disappointed now that we are out. $51m in prize money isn’t to be sniffed at either. I wonder if the pot would have been that much if the Middle East €1bn sponsors weren’t there?

Is there many city fans gonna bother watching now we are out, are inter fans or auckland fans etc?

I doubt it, DA Zone (what a stupid name) will have probably see subcriptions and viewing figures fall in countries for each team that goes out imho

Only the champion of each association participated in the older format. But this format enables multiple clubs from the same association and they each have shown their quality.

Granted, the viewership figures will go down among supporters of eliminated clubs but the strong performances of the so called "lesser clubs" also generate hype. Upsets create buzz and people who have no interest previously, tune in.

But most important is the financial bit, even for the European giants. But, it's seriously a boon for the "lesser clubs". For example, Auckland City got the least amount of money of all the participants (4.5 million dollars). That's more than their 2 years worth of budget!!
