14 | Nico Gonzalez - 2025/26

Strange one as the lad had attributes and talent but doesn’t look physically in great shape. Like all the players signed in January I am not sure he would be anywhere near the bench in any of our better sides. Txiki had some great years and some very good signings but the last 3 years have been largely poor in the market.

Pretty sure Nic must be wondering what he has/hasn't done to get a chance.

Nunes is probably less concerned even though playing in a position which is not his norm.

But even Phillips must realise he is nowhere near good enough for this team, however thick he might be. But the money is good and the contract unbelievably too long, so he probably doesn't care.
My point is our centre midfield recruitment has been terrible lately, I thought buying two players that Pep didn't rate in midfield was enough to make us more careful but now we've bought a third in just 3 years ? the hell is going on ?

I think it's because we've looked to buy players who were not necessarily similar to Rodri but who might be able to cope in a double pivot without Rodri, or maybe play alongside him when he's fit and available. It's been an expensive error.

Not sure any of them are that good. The centre backs look like project players.. Kush looks well short of what we need. Gonzales looks slow and cumbersome, doesn’t look like a premiership player. Marmoosh looks great one minute and dreadful then next ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ..
That's probably because he spent last 3 months on the bench after winning player of the month award, and MOTM in pretty much every appearance, including playing RB against Madrid (Vinicius specifically) away.

Bizarre on Peps part….although he’s nowhere near Rodri’s level, Gonzalez is the best deputy we have.

It’s fairly obvious that Rodri’s game time this season will limited, after nearly a year out….so surely Gonzalez should be starting when Rodri is missing.

I feels as though Pep is going out of his way to prove a point about some of Vianas signings.

So you think he’s already a top premiership centre half rather than a prospect?

Bizarre is the word I would use too. Just don’t understand Peps rationale at times, surely we have to start looking forward as a squad, trying to blood some of this exceptionally talented youth?

I don’t think he can mate . He is that royal to the core players that brought us success and the players where great for us but that has gone now and it’s in the realms of history but pep will not change his ways and unless viana sells these players we will be like this fid probably next two seasons while pep is here and by the time he goes off into the sunset we will be one course to be like Man Utd with a great premier league history but massive rebuild moving forward .as for the Uzbek kid and probably nico g they will prob go out on loan and then sold next summer .

How gundogan and Bernardo can get minutes ahead of him is criminal.
Pep will still be picking them in 5 years time. :)
I don't understand why he's not playing Nico, surely the lad needs pitch time to bed in... Why buy him otherwise?

We really need a big clear out of the old guard. All these old players are on big wages.

I think keep buying midfielders who can’t run(Nunes aside but Pep decided he can’t even play in midfield) for an ageing midfield has been very bizarre.

Nico G and the Uzbek kid?
Sounds like a spaghetti western :-)
