The Labour Government

The minimum is zero and lots of people are choosing to pay that now. By leaving the UK. Raise the higher rate to 6o% and watch even more of them leave and receipts plummet.

Depends at what amount you start to raise it , I'm really not that concerned about greedy tossers threatening to leave the country. Talk is cheap social care isn't.

I don’t think Starmer will go but if he does, I don’t think Rayner would lead the party. Could see Cooper taking up the role
He will weather the storm of the Daily Mail and the Daily Express. Not saying he is getting it right domestically but doing well internationally. it's another 4 years to steady the ship.

It’s because investors are fearful of what will follow if or rather when Reeves goes. Not because they believe Reeves is actually any good at her job.

A new Chancellor, a new, looser fiscal mandate which very likely ditches the commitment to a balanced current budget and a shit load of extra borrowing. On top of the frankly scary level of borrowing already mapped out.

And that’s before we even consider the prospect of Angela Rayner taking over as PM.
Scary.... very scary

so by a back handed route you are accepting she is best suited to the job.
Simply that what follows her is likely to be worse, potentially much worse. It’s Alan Ball being followed by Steve Coppell. Things could unravel quite quickly.

Had Starmer acted a few months ago and replaced her when he still had some authority, then we’d be in a much better position.

This post aged well
That post is from someone who is too stupid to be able to comprehend what is written. He just loves arguing with himself about what he thinks someone has written and thinks rather than understanding that people are allowed to think differently to him and believe it or not, have alternative opinions.

Here you have a brainwashed being that cannot think for himself.

Further and faster.

I hear McDonnell could be available. JC recommends him.

Rrrrriiiiiggghhhttt - so you present your own feelings and suppositions as fact but have no actual facts to back it up.
Am really disappointed that you didn't come back with Mel Stride as your answer tbh.

Some posters on here have suggested that they're ok with a rise in income tax or NI. However, Labour pledged pre-election that neither would rise, hence why I think they're looking at all these other ways of raising money. Trouble is, they've only succeeded in pissing millions of people off anyway which has led to them rowing back on things like the WFA and offering all these concessions in last night's bill. While those rethinks - u turns even - are ultimately good news for many, the optics aren't good at all. A rise in income tax or NI is the obvious answer and would've been simpler to implement but it was pretty much their main pre-election pledge not to do it so the backlash would be off the scale if they backtracked on that one.

I don't think the previous government helped because it's my belief that they "winged it" a fair bit in those last 12-18 months or so by cutting NI not once, but twice, in a last-ditch attempt to win votes but they ultimately knew that they couldn't really afford to do that. IIRC, they were also talking about a further NI cut but by then they probably knew they weren't getting back in anyway so effectively could promise what they wanted. As you say though, Labour have pretty much backed themselves into a corner by ruling out rises in income tax, NI, and VAT.

Thats it in a nutshell folks, good post, so these side taking posts are not doing anyone any good. I honestly have no idea where the money is gonna come from, and I'm pretty sure none of the political parties have either.
I'm not sure Joe Public want to hear it though.

Have people over there noticed any improvement in their everyday life in the last year? Serious question, not wumming.
Personally I'm slightly better off since they came in.

However, that could be down to me being a sad wanker with no crotch goblins as I have friends that work and are struggling to keep their shit together because their bills are constantly going up.

I think people (well me) do object to paying more tax when the Government is shelling out millions everyday for people arriving every day in boats. They really do have to sort out this money drain before they come cap in hand back to people who are struggling with homelessness and child poverty and a whole host of other domestic hardships.

I am also better off

I also feel better once I read this thread, I see a lot of anger and time spent by some posters here.

I enjoy reading the bickering, keeps me entertained.

That makes no sense, you’re saying we’d be in a much better position if Starmer had replaced her with someone that you think is likely to be worse…
