Sheffield Wednesday on the brink… | Enter administration (p30)

The summer has been an absolute sh*tstorm, to the point so much has happened I couldn't be bothered to update on here as I have in the past on EFL matters.

May wages not fully paid
June wages not paid to staff/1st team
HMRC bill for June not paid
Manager expected to be announced as new Leicester City boss later this week
All coaches are out of contract
No Pre-season friendlies scheduled
No new Kit expected
North Stand needs work before season start otherwise a safety certificate will not be issued
Season Ticket money from early bird sales (I bought mine in January for the cheapest price) was most likely used before last season ended to prop up the finances
Any player who has not received May/June wages can give the club notice of contract termination, if the club doesn't pay what they owed within 15 days they can leave for free. I understand several players have exercised that right (good for them)
Work to upgrade the training ground has ceased due to money.
We are under an embargo for failing 2 EFL rules, this would be removed if outstanding debts are settled by Chancer or a new owner
We have a 3 window transfer window ban, and can only sign freebies or loans that do not involve a fee (including agents) with a maximum wage of £7k a week.
Chancer has turned down 2 bids for the club, he originally wanted £300 million (what a joke). The club is worth £40-50m at most, especially as the club doesn't own the stadium, Chancer does after he sold it to himself to navigate PSR rules in 2017/18 (he fucked that up so we got a 12 point deduction, reduced to 6 anyway which ultimately relegated us in 20/21 season)

Everyday there are more stories coming out of the club, football seems a million miles away at the minute, I'm more concerned if we actually start the season. It has Bury vibes about it.

Bottom line is we're royally up sh*t creek without a paddle.

If we do start the season I could see a team made up of U21's and journeymen players that nobody wants, and even they won't appear until after September 1st.
Yeah but apart from all that...

Never realised things were that bad mate, hopefully something positive happens, always enjoyed an away day at your place.

This is shocking!
I remember Wednesday flying high in the early 90's.
Unbelievable that the EFL can allow this to happen to such a great club.
I hope things turn around for you.

All the best mate and lets hope someone can come along and bail your Club out, sooner than later though.

I hope a solution can be found.

Good luck, mate, for a positive resolution.

It was a good place to visit as an away fan. You were always a very friendly lot.

Sounds like the perfect opportunity for a wealthy American ownership group, especially if they can fish the club out of Administration for pennies on the dollar.

With their ground and their history, there’s plenty of room for growth, renewal and regeneration, plus they have strong built-in rivalries, if they can get back to business.

Don’t spend my money on it, but someone with real money, and a desire to fix what ails the club, could make a fortune over the long run.

I'm not sure administration at the minute is an option, due to the fact the biggest creditor is the person who got us into this mess. If he put us in he'd lose more money than what he's rejected in bids.

Thanks all for your kins words, I think we'll need them :)

Already today we've had a stories in the media that 6 players have exercised their right to terminate contract, and we owe money to Southampton for Shea Charles loan last season, and have missed a payment to Norwich City for Akin Famewo, who's been with us for a few years now.

One good thing is that it's picking up momentum and getting reported at national level rather than just local journalists.

Hope it gets sorted out for my b-i-l we used to travel over together for games years ago but, not his fat 40 year old son who I hope is suffering.

Seriously it's an awful situation hopefully, someone will appear with an answer. The club has lots of history, a proper fan somewhere must have some money to get you back on the rails.

The problem with the EFL Fit and Proper Person test is that it only considers a potential owner's actions prior to buying the club. Owners can do whatever they want once they get their grubby hands on the club, with no sanction from the EFL.

Very best wishes to you and all Wednesdayites mate. Really feel for you all especially having lived and still work in Sheffield for many years.

A great club, with good old tradition(unlike our 2008 selves) and a good solid fan base. Hope they don't go under because I've always had a little soft spot for these.

And here tells the truth about how the governing bodies are being run, the FA, EFL, Premier League, all should hang their heads in shame, FFP rules were not put in place to protect clubs from going bust; it was simply to try and stop Manchester City.

Main problem is United making up the rules to suit them, They don't give a shit about any other clubs or football and grassroots or local communities or their own fans. I shake my head at why the Premier League and all the other clubs let them rule the roost ? The amount of Debt and mess they are in, Nobody should be taking orders from them on how football should be run,

Good luck to Sheffield Wednesday and its fans plus the local community it was built around
