A mate of mine sent me this article, words from Simon Curtis of this parish. Brought back a lot of memories, this is when I started seriously getting on to City. Fucking eijit Imagine a Championship team having the equivalent of Waddle, Keegan, Beardsley and McDermott now.

I remember it all vividly, but without googling I'd struggle to recall half of last season.
 
Grimsby at home 1st October was my first game at Maine Road and was also four generations of my family went to a game together.

Me,(7 years old)
Dad(29 years old)
Grandad(59 years old)
Great Grandad (86 years old)

It was my Great Grandad's last ever game watching City live as he passed away in February 84. His first game was in 1919 at Hyde Road.

After The Great War he got a job at Ardwick railway station and started watching City.

Mad to think my family have been supporting City for over 100 years
 
It was my first season watching City aged 7. I can’t remember going to any games the previous season but vividly remember games from that season. Mostly sat on the wall with my legs dangling through the fence at the front of the Kippax. Sometimes sat on the wall between the Kippax and windy corner.

Oldham away was Good Friday as I recall and absolute mayhem in the crowd . Average home gate for them was about 5k and they put the same number of coppers on for a crowd 4 times that size

Good post and I went to a lot of that. Seemed to remember the giddy optimism of Autumn slowly morphing into the reality that others were better than us summed up by having David Johnson lead the line for a few games in Spring

That's right

I don't think it was immediately apparent but Chelsea (Dixon Speedie Nevin) and Newcastle (Waddle Keegan Beardsley) were acquiring some tremendous players whilst Howard Wilkinson had turned Sheffield Wednesday into a powerful formidable team of Route One giants

City were comparatively toothless and lacking a particular style of play, whilst still paying the price for the madness of Malcolm Allison and then Swales replacing him with the polar opposite short term thinking of John Bond.

Roger Palmer and Dave Bennett were both inferior to where we wanted to be, but a damm sight better than where we ended up.

I was probably sat next to you pal. That was my little spot whilst my dad stood at the top(probably so I couldn't mither him to buy me a drink and some crisps from the little tray holders who walked around the pitch :)

Derek Parlane's ( i think) perfectly good goal ruled out at Derby
