Pep Guardiola - 2025/26

"We created many chances and could have been 3 up after the 1st half."

Unfortunately you could have said the same thing about most of the games that we lost last season

He is probably saying about last season when pep did get it wrong
Yes he did but mostly by not starting to refresh he squad last summer. This summer they are in the process of exactly that so at least lets see how it goes before deciding last season is the norm now not the 8 seasons that went before.

Just saying, and I realise that you are keen to defend your opinion, but I suspect the OP wasn't referring to the 8 seasons that went before.

We are guessing what he meant, but he said 'is not translating into games' present tense, to me as we are in pre season I'm saying forget last season and if you like forget the other 8 . Lets wait and see where we are once we are into next season towards Christmas before

Ok, but still not sure the previous 8 year reference was relevant or necessary.

It's interesting how impatient some fans can be.

One would think Pep had enough credit in the bank after breaking multiple records in English football, including winning the domestic treble, 4 in a row, the Treble, etc. He did it 12 months ago, not 12 years ago.

Yet here some are: questioning Pep right, left and centre. How people can be so fickle is impressive (or, alternatively, they haven't bought into the "hype" and have always thought he is more about having the best resources than ability?)

Any reasonable person would give Pep all the time in the world to work his magic on the new team he's building. Errors and setbacks are normal. Pep might succeed in the next two seasons or he might not. Given his record and mentality, chances are he will succeed. Nothing is guaranteed but Pep has been the best bet to guarantee success in the last 15 years or so.

This is not to say he's above criticism. I'm pointing out obvious things that some seem to be forgetting.
Not difficult to understand. On the basis of the previous 7 or 8 years he was great. On the basis of the last year or so, he’s done little right and is still frustrating after spending another fortune.

So, a genius having a poor temporary patch or a past genius who now struggles to adapt? Project forward from recent performance or predict from earlier years?

Take your choice but please don’t argue it’s black and white or that one side has it completely wrong.

The problem is people where moaning not just because we got beat which happens and tbh it wasn’t even about getting knocked out of the cup the big problem was pep went back to what he knows and instead of trying new things he reverted back with his old squad

One side has it wrong: you can't say he's past it purely on the basis of one season. The evidence is not enough to draw such a conclusion, especially given the context: a somewhat tired team (4 titles in a row!), aging players and many injuries.

On that logic, Ferguson was past it in 2004, 3 years before his next PL title. Obviously, he wasn't, even though United were relatively poor for several years. And it's not like Pep has been underwhelming for 3 years now. We are 2 years after the Treble, one year after 4 in a row, and less than one year since going 26 games unbeaten in Europe...

Time will tell. Right now it's premature to argue Pep is past it.

Not bothered about that as long as he and Pep2 and Viana used the CWC
to run the final rule over the whole squad to make final decisions on who stays and who goes to whittle the squad down to a final 24ish.
Getting out with that and no injuries is all I wanted from it.Now looking forward to see how we line up and perform next season.

I'm not jumping to conclusions. I'm simply concerned with how off it Pep has been for the past 14 months.
what about from January to season ended hey! Wasn’t we the best team in the league points wise?!

Let’s see at the end of the season coming where we are!

It's difficult to dismiss last season as it is still current until Pep proves otherwise. Identify the best 15/16 and carry on. Trust a system and roll with it for more than one game. Someone with Pep's track record shouldn't have to be reinventing the game from week to week. We all know how smart he's been. No need to overthink it to the level he's been the past 14 months. In sport one's actions are judged by results. Those results say that Pep has been getting it wrong for a while now. Regardless of injuries, aging players and such Pep's decision making has been questionable. If we remain relatively injury free, make one or two more key signings and this continues into next season then for me it's time for a change. I hope Pep gets his act together and returns to being the manager he's been for almost the entirety of his career. We will have to wait and see...

Let's add some context. During that same period of time we were non competitive and unrecognizable versus Arsenal, Liverpool AT HOME, and in the 2nd leg against Real Madrid. We weren't remotely good enough compared to who we've been. I'm just being honest. It's not all down to Pep but ya can't be hailed as an all conquering hero, which he most certainly has been, even when your moving strange...

That stat is misleading.

Since January we lost 5-1 to Arsenal , 1 nil to Forest , 2 nil to Liverpool , drew against the rags. Drew against Brighton , lost 1 nil to palace in the fa cup final, drew nil nil with Southampton. Drew 2-2 with Brentford. We got our shit together at the beginning of April but before that we were average / poor.

our form picked up as we had a settled centre back partnership of Dias and Gvardiol. As soon as Akanji was fit he was put into the starting eleven and Gvardiol was pushed to left back that’s when we started conceding attacks and looked more vulnerable.

Peps his own worst enemy but that overthinking was constant last season even when we got it right he’d change it the next game, 4 nil win against Newcastle we looked good then he changed again and we got beat next game.

Fa cup form saved us, champions league we got battered.

Perspective hey yours is of the chart with entitlement!

If you think a new manager coming in will win half of what pep did you’ll get a shock!
