So, that January transfer window…

Another season of Ake and/or Stones. I think the contracts are up at the end of next season then hopefully from having some game time over 25/26 they'll be up and ready to be first choice or certainly fully competent from the bench.

Chances are if both Nathan & John stay into 25/26 the young lads will get games with their injury records but, I think Pep will try and move at least one of the old guard out to move them up the order.

Nico should be on rotation to help Rodders workload.

The young Argentine winger could be a worldie on one side with Bobb on the other.

I think we need to move Stones and Ake on this summer if possible because both are too often Injured and only have 12 months left on their contracts. Maybe Moyes will want Stones and Howe will want Ake, hopefully so.
Stones and Bernardo will sail into the sunset next summer, but Ake is contracted through 2027. No club will touch either of the defenders with their injury histories, it's wishful thinking on our part to think otherwise, so we're going to have to carry them until their contracts expire. If that is indeed what happens, it will make the winter window appear even more confusing.

Without it we wouldn't be in the champions league next season. That fact alone covers the majority of the outlay nevermind the January premium we may have spent.

Khusanov was pivotal for 6 weeks when we had nobody in defencenand Marmoush has won us plenty of points.

They've all got 6 months extra adjustment/settling in time. Even in the unlikely event we get rid of them all next summer I don't see how anybody can deem it anything but an overwhelming success.

I’m really excited to see how good these young lads are going to be.
Khusanov looks like he’s going to be a beast of a player.

They are pretty much all for the future though and, Marmoush aside, didn’t really give us a long term push for third (although Khusanov was a great stand-in while Dias Stones Akanji and Aké were all out injured). Our push for third came from the likes of Gvardiol Kovačić Gündoğan Nunes (De Bruyne against Palace) etc. who were all very good second half of the season.
Really positive post, which is rare on here.

Just listening to Pep now about Grealish. Hes fighting.

This time next year we will have just come home from us watching a PL title parade and *insert a cup here*.

We are going to see a fucking brilliant season.

Feel we have to accept we have done the majority of our Summer business 6 months early but for me it's good business. Khusanov, his pace will be vital in UCL in particular and he is destined for cult hero status. Nico looks ready to play a part now as well as others have said in rotation with Rodri who has to be have minutes managed next season. Marmoush has fitted right in, we have front man cover in case of injury plus options, not been as happy with a second choice forward since Alverez.

Echeverri and Reis, appreciate they have come at a significant cost of probably around £50 million but I honestly believe we have captured the signatures of the top 2 under 21 talents in South America with time for them to adapt to our style of play. Expect a lot more cameos next season, opportunities in the Carabo for sure and break out seasons 26/27 for them both.

Loans maybe? I can’t see a transfer fee forthcoming or full wages for either given their recent injury records.

1x starter and a long term prospect (Marmoush)

3x initial squad backups (Khusa for Walker, Nico for Rodri, Reis for Ake/Akanji) who may or may not work themselves into becoming a first choice player eventually. I’d say if 2 out of 3 do that it’s successful, if 1 out of 3 disappointing. If 0 then terrible. Reckon it’ll be a 1 but this season will answer that.

1x promising youngster (Echeverri), impossible to tell how he’ll settle. Could be an Aguero, could be an Alvarez.

2x buy/sell loanees who we’ll definitely improve and make money on but secretly hope will be a hidden gem.

I thought it all went well tbh. All done and already they are playing for us, working with the team and manager, honing our tactics, playing in competitions. Compared with other clubs we are ahead of the game. Liverpool too though.

Any thoughts on this window (Jan 25) following the Club World Cup?
If we went through and added up the new comers apps, I think they'd be really low. In the short term, I don't think the signings have contributed much but we can at the same time be very hopeful for Khusanov, Ries and Echeverri and Marmoush at least.

Khusanov, Ries, Echeverri all have had a lot of training under their belt and should now know City inside and out and vice versa.

We qualified for the Champions' League, which was looking unlikely at one point, and signed some excellent prospects, for now and the future. I think this was possibly led by Viana, with Txiki's input.

Was the January window effective?

Marmoush's goals led to Champions League qualification but at this moment it is not possible to say whether the other signings will be successful.

Khusanov, Reis and Echeverri are developing players. Khusanov has the power and pace of Kyle Walker but he needs to work on his composure in possession. City clearly rate Reis and Echeverri highly given their involvement in the Club World Cup and FA Cup Final.

Currently, City are weak in defending against transitions. Our ability to improve in this respect depends on the rehab. of Rodri and Stones, and the uncertain development of Khusanov and Reis.

I prefer our transfer strategy in 2010-2015 where we spent more on low-risk players. If you have the finance to do this, this is the most successful and ultimately the low cost strategy. It's a difficult question as City / Pep might correctly point out that there were no low-risk solutions available in January.

None of those players outside of Marmoush were signed with the intent of an immediate impact.

Khusanov didn't even speak English when he got here.

Reis is a teenager from the Brazilian Serie A.

Nico Gonzalez is only 23 and hasn't exactly been a prodigy prior to City.

They're long term investments. They may not pan out, but that's how investments work.

It was December 2024, City were struggling badly for form and there was a great sense that City would break from tradition and go big in the January 2025 transfer window.

There were rumours of some big names and an expectation that we needed to bring in proven talent & players who could go straight into the team to help put the breaks on our poorest form in several years.

In particular, we looked to be short in defence. Walker, our right back, left after his form fell off a cliff and Lewis was struggling with the pressure of performing week in week out in such an important position.

With Rodri out injured we also looked to be in need of a player who could come straight into the team and play that position. Someone who wasn’t just going to be another Kalvin Phillips.

With this in mind, how do you think the window went, and how big of an impact do you think the signings had on our final league position and trophy haul - or lack of one?

Did the window course correct our season?

Who's that RB, Kabore? if he's 23 surely he could be option for us this season?

The January window was highly unusual in that we bought players who were still developing.
