Pep Guardiola - 2025/26

Wow if we can buy OK midfielders for £130 - what a bargain!

With all those average midfielders and lack of slick operation post 2022 I wonder how we won the premier league in 2022-23 and 2023-24, champions league in 2022-23 and finished (an admittedly disappointing) third last year.

As I said above you would think City had been relegated!
If we had actually spent £130 on Kalvin Phillips I’d still feel like we’d been done.

We’ve had amazing players and all great things do come to an end. It’s normal. My point is we replaced legends like Zabaleta in 2017, Toure in 2018, Kompany 2019, David Silva in 2020, Augero in 2021 and Ferna in 2022 with players at the same level or different types which made the team better.

Haaland and Alavrez were key to the treble from the new players we signed in 2022. Existing players were world class (Stones, KDB, Rodri, Bernie, Foden, Dias, Eddie - potentially all of them!

Our future planning since 2022 hasn’t been as good as in the past. If our transfer business had been slick, we wouldn’t be signing 9 players (Reis, Khusanov, Marmoush, Gonzalez, Echeverri, Cherki, At-Nouiri, Rejinders and the third keeper) since January and potentially still in the market for 1-2 more (RB etc).

The ideal planning exists only in the heads of some fans, those struggling to deal with bad seasons (like finishing 3 pts off the top 2).

I'm sure many weren't happy with our future planning back in the summer of 2020. The knifes were out: Gundo and Rodri hopelessly slow and immobile, Cancelo waste of money, no good replacements for David, Kun and Ferna, etc. Then we won 4 in a row and everything.

Only time can tell whether our recruiting post 2022 wasn't good enough. Who knows, we might win the Treble next season. Or the Quadruple :)

Exactly - granted was a mistake not strengthening further after the success but the posts saying we have failed since 2022 are laughable. We just finished third in a season where half our squad were injured including the ballon D'or winner. Poor season by our standards - wonder if they were saying our planning was terrible that at the end of October last year when we were unbeaten and had a fit squad?

We’ve had an amazing last 10 years. I’m talking about for our usual standards, our transfers haven’t been as slick in the past few years and that is not failure by any stretch - we’re one of the best run clubs in the world.

I'm shocked that JewelZee wrote those things.

Well, not really.

He and the likes think they understand the source of our problems better than Pep (or that he's gone mad) - like amateurish chess players understanding better than Magnus Carlsen what it takes to win chess games.
Doubt many have a clue who that chess player you mentioned is. Pep has been way off his game since before the fa cup final defeat to the rags last year. He was out managed by about 15 different managers between league, champions league and domestic cups so clearly he isnt close to been the best around now. Fuck knows whether he can turn it around but he needs to stop playing his old favourites who should have been put out to pasture and the new players given a chance.

Yes they were. The warning signs were already there despite the league position.

Facts!

You've always hated Pep though? Here is what you thought of him during the treble season:

I've never been afraid to voice my opinion good or bad about Pep or anyone else. If you don't agree with something I say that's up to you. Not my problem. I honestly could not give 2 f**ks about your opinions or takes. BTW. what's the penalty for questioning Pep? You and the rest of the cult being unhappy with me on a fan forum. Oh no, whatever should I do? LMAO

I started a Pep v Viana/Txiki thread months ago and was told I was talking nonsense . Pep constantly referring to the January signings as club signings . That the club decided we needed them . Kept dismissing them saying when he had his players back everything would go back to normal etc

Pep told Khaldoon let Viana assess the squad and carry on with recruitment! It’s why we bought so many players! Pep job now is to asses the new Lakers coach them to perform to his standards! Even think pep would of liked Kdb still to stay like he wanted Gundo to Stay before he went to Barcelona..

Going to be a very interesting season coming up..

And people think Pep is gonna play the new guys. Time was right for pep to call it a day after 4 in a row. Then hugo in with a new manager to assess and rebuild squad. Pep is clinging onto his loyal servants and there will be a stand off between him and viana. If results dont go our way we will have a problem

Things will only get uglier for us. Shitstorm on the Horizon.

We wasted time and stood still last summer. Probably because we were waiting to see which way the 115 would go. Our behaviour in the market since Xmas suggests we're fine. It has annoyingly clipped our wings and allowed other teams to catch up - probably the intention all along.

Pep really doesn't know how his squad will look in two months. If it were down to him, we wouldn't have signed anyone in January!

If true then Pep can’t be allowed to continue.

We have some great young talent but it’s quite obvious Pep is not going to pick them instead of the old guard.

It would be criminal if we lost the the likes of Reis, Bobb, Echeverri and Kushanov and even McAtee has never played in his true position…..look at some of the youngsters who were never given a chance….Palmer, Gittens, Roger’s, Lavia etc etc

Previously we had total alignment between the DOF and Pep…..any kind of disharmony will be disastrous for City.

Pep is not here for the long term and it looks as though this is starting to cloud his judgement….it has already cost us at the start of last season when he decided not to strengthen the squad.

As brilliant as Pep has been….he’s not bigger than the club.

Let’s hope this is just a rumour, or else the new season will implode.
