Andy Burnham | Manchester Mayor

Ah, the hopeless defence of an innocent question. "mind your car Mr?" isn't a murderer, is he?

"So, Respondent MYCM, by asking the question you were not really suggesting that Mr Burnham is corrupt?"

(Think carefully how you answer, as it will ruin your defence against defamation if you implied that he was corrupt but didn't actually believe it.)

I'll do it. He is a politician. Ergo, he is a fucking self-serving crook. I'll take the risk.

Do you think anybody would loan that kind of money illegally without wanting a favour in return? Seems a little implausible to me.
The only implausible thing is that someone posting on Bluemoon about a legal case should understand the case before posting.

No favour. The defence is that the loans enable new housing, provide construction jobs and apprenticeships, and that they were at an interest rate that made the developments viable (as opposed to "commercial rates" set by London-based lenders).

It's a Tory scheme...

"The fund started in 2015 after the government provided the GMCA with £300m to invest in speeding up the delivery of homes. Over time, the pot has quadrupled to £1.2bn thanks to interest on repayments. The fund has been successful in boosting the delivery of housing across the 10 GM boroughs and plugging viability gaps that often arise with brownfield development."

The only issue is whether it's an unfair subsidy under competition law.

People should not let their antipathy to Burnham cloud their premature judgment.

The word you conveniently missed out in your summation was "illegally"

Before piling on to Burnham it would make sense to look at the actual story.

The case was instigated by one of Renaker’s business rivals who owns a parcel of land near one of Renaker’s developments and it’s the second or third time he’s tried to suggest they’ve had unfair subsidies, each time without success.

The business rival in question has a record of trying to avoid tax, most recently by trying to claim non-dom status due to him living abroad for three years in the 1960s when he was a teenager.

Fuck me, somebody's been watching too much Crown Court on talking pictures

Included in the Mayor’s speech was the appointment of Lord Sebastian Coe as the Chair-Designate of the Mayoral Development Corporation (MDC) for the Old Trafford Regeneration project.

Lord Coe previously led the Old Trafford Regeneration Task Force – a multi-stakeholder group set up by the club with the objective of exploring options for developing a world-class football stadium and regenerating the surrounding area.

The new role will see Lord Coe play a key role in the next stage of the project as plans advance to deliver a new 100,000-seater stadium at Old Trafford as the centrepiece of a wider regeneration programme with city-region partners.

The MDC will have powers to support the wider project aims around planning, land assembly, investment in infrastructure with the ultimate aim to deliver transformational change for the area.

Some great announcements on public transport.

- Underground to be developed.
- Met service expanded.
- More night buses from the City centre.

Very happy with the plans.

Hmmmmm,
The underground isn't a done deal. They are looking into it.
The Met service expansion is at the moment a dream (Stockport)
The last one is at least going to happen.
I wonder how much Lord Coe is getting, why do we need him ?
I thought Burnham and Trafford Council had enough political clout to regenerate the area without paying Coe many thousands of pounds to do the same.

It is typical of government local or national Jobs for the boys, everyone on an earner.and the ratepayer picks up the tab.

Met service to Heywood was also in the plans which is huge for them, their transport links to Manchester are shocking.

I know a lot are just plans at the moment but they are much needed and promising.

The bus service has been miles better since coming back to the council. I used to avoid the bus at all costs but it's now an option again if I'm off into town.

I phoned in to bbc Manchester to talk to him today to try and integrate the match day buses into the bee network to cut costs also explained how in Europe you get free match day travel (certainly in Germany) to games with your ticket. He says they are working with City and United to try and help with public transport and the there will be announcements in a few weeks, regarding match day travel.

These f*ckers are going to get Taxpayers money to help build it arent they?
If so, they should pay the Government/council a % of the matchday income like we do.

God i hate them!

You should have gone for him on the parking zones too.

Apparently, we FOCs can use our bus passes at any time during August. This is a trial.

Should reduce overcrowding on the 9.31 to Bury.
I have no issue with FOC using bus passes, however, the matchday bus is £8 for me and others yet FOC can use their bus pass and get on for nothing, when you look at the demographic of people using it I’d say nearly 50% aren’t paying. I think as it’s not completely funded by Bee network they should charge a nominal fee of £2 return, this would allow the price to be reduced for the rest of us. As it gets more popular you old bastards will outnumber us,the bus will be running at a loss and smell of Werthers ;)

An underground in Manchester is pie in the sky wishful thinking? The cost would be eye watering with little benefit.

I wish politicians would be more honest when they annouce such schemes.
