Will we win the league this season?

Surely Chelsea will be cream crackered from the CWC?
Not at first and they will be confident, over the season though think it will catch up with them and unlike last season they won’t be able to have 2 different squads for Europe and domestic.

If the players work the arses of the ball press we will win the league! That second half at cwc certain players didn’t do there job Doku for one stood there didn’t track back! We can’t have that this season! We want what Cherki did that second half ran back tackles the player we went into and attack!

Well it will be interesting to see how they start off. Not sure how this CWC fits in with players holiday, pre season etc. There were a number of posters who were not altogether unhappy when we got knocked out, citing the impact on the coming campaign if we'd continued in the comp.

Well only Marmoush really, other than Newcastle and Bournemouth I don’t think he pulled any trees up. I do rate him but he needs to work on his first touch, I feel he’s a clumsy player. After the first month we hardly saw the others. I personally didn’t see anything from Jan onwards that suggests to me we’re three signings away from winning the league. Still much more business needs to be done. Gundo/Kova/Bernie/Stones/Ake/Akanji all either already past it or injury prone and there going to be another year older.
I think you are doing the player a disservice there, he showed some class moments, made the difference in getting champions league qualification and is going to get better; Khusanov and Gonzalez too improved us and will get better.

What about getting Rodri and Foden back?

The break after the CWC for Chelsea is quite long. I don't think the CWC will have a significant fundamental impact, Chelsea resume trainings pretty much like we do?

Anyway, Chelsea gonna be better, they have a warehouse of players, but the spine of the team remains relatively consistent (Colwill, Cucurella, James, Caicedo/Enzo/Lavia, Palmer). Over time, those who develop will stay, and those who don’t will be dropped (Sterling, Madueke, Jackson). Unfortunately, this model is almost certain to succeed, so if not this season, then next season Chelsea will be a real problem.

Hard to see any other top4 than City, LFC, Arsenal, Chelsea (no particular order).

So its a bit crazy, because you still have very strong teams like Aston Villa, Newcastle and potentially very strong like Tottenham or Man Utd who are destined to be out of UCL? Crazy how strong and competitive the league gonna be.

On paper, the Premier League has eight teams (!) with the potential to compete at a very top level (as showed last season for instance Aston Villa against PSG).

Yes we will win the league. You can bookmark this if you want. Absolutely pointless thread.

I would be more confident if we had already sold Akanji, Kova, Grealish by now and if Pep hadn't chosen Bernardo as the captain. As long as Pep can play Akanji and Bernardo he unfortunately will use them.
We need a proper first 11 again and I would even be perfectly fine with Nunes as RB. Dias, Khusanov, Gvardiol, Reis and Stones should be our CBs in my opinion, with Dias and Gvardiol starting most games.

When you say current form you mean the second half of the last game, not the game before v Juventus, or the other 2?
Well on the surface the Juve result looked great but the goals nconceeded hinted at little real improvement in that problem area. The elimination from the CWC provided further evidence of an on-going weakness. Now there are signs that we are looking more lively and dangerous and that is positive. Chelsea can look back on this competition with satisfaction and confidence for the future. Now they may not go close to winning the league but as of today I would think they have at least as good a chance as we have. Lets see how many points we have in Jan/Feb and how we are playing in comparison to others.

Will we win the league next season?

Given our current squad, I don't think that we're favorite to do so. The summer transfer window is still open though so we'll see.

Liverpool
Chelsea/Man City/Arsenal
Newcastle

is what I expect as of now.

Which were the small games that City won against the top 6/7 teams? The two against Chelsea, the one against Villa, the 4-0 against Newcastle, two wins against Forest?
a big game is a big final or arsenal, liverpool, madrid, psg, barca, bayern. the elite - not fucking ‘having a great season’ forest. a home game midweek to forest or a saturday 3pm against newcastle are not big games. chelsea are also shite and not elite last season.

away we lost to arsenal (trounced), liverpool, villa, forest, madrid (embarassing), lisbon (collapsed), psg (humiliated), draws with spurs and united. at home we got battered a few times as well.

if we mock united fans for pretending they might have a 10+ place rise in the league then we cant also then ignore the shocking results last season which half corrected itself between february and may only for us to shit the bed in the fa cup final again. We are bang bang average. Unless Rodri comes back to 2023 form then i dont see it happenening

i also dont see it unless we get a new keeper he is fucking rubbish these days

And what about if they don’t a ACL isn’t a twisted ankle. I massively hope I’m wrong. We definitely need to do more business surely we can agree on that?

We can agree on that. Just be careful when judging the two teams you don’t underestimate ours and overestimate theirs.

Yes that’s the spirit. Who do we have to worry about?
Liverpool? Ok they had an easy job last year, far too easy. Yes they’ve brought in Wirtz but 100m is a lot of money for a player who really is a fair bit overhyped.

Arsenal will just finish second.

Rags? Ok no need to worry about them.

Chelsea? Maybe but I think their defence isn’t quite up to it just yet.

Who else? Newcastle maybe but looking at our squad and a new centre back and right back and I would back us to do the league again.

We need more fans looking at us positively imo.

So just to summarise the positivity

If Rodri's fully recovered
If Foden's fully revitalised
If Stones spends less time on the treatment table
If Doku increases his goals and assists
If we have a settled defence
If we stay clear of injuries
If Pep learns that Bernardo can't start alongside Gundogan
If the new signings bed-in quickly
If Echeverri and Bobb emerge as genuine PL quality

We can still win the PL, but those "Ifs" have doubled in the last 12 months

Apart from a right back, the squad looks to have all the tools we need. The big question is over fitness and form and we'll only know that once the season starts. I back us to win the league though and thats down to one thing, Pep. The man is a serial winner. He's the best manager of a generation. If anyone can get us back on track its him.
