33 | Nico O'Reilly - 2025/26

Getting rid of O’Reilly would be crazy, he’s the future not Gundogan or Silva.
Disgusting if he goes.

Yeah but how else are we going to make room for our next dog shit Spanish or Portuguese £50m+ signing?

Or, if we're feeling really brave, a B tier English talent we're willing to spend £100m on.

Unfortunately, sacrifices have to be made.

He is going to be worth more than 80m easily if he can play week in and week out for a season. The club should utilize academies properly rather than just buying some pricey mediocre signings that probably never gonna work for us.

I hope this is just kite flying by his manager to hurry City up to get Nico's contract sorted out.

KIf that's not the case then I'll be extremely annoyed if we let Nico go. He is the future. Gundo, Bernie and Kova represent the past.

Fucking hell. Imagine how many trophies we would have won if our transfer business wasn't as shit as some people seem to think.

Twitter is not fact.
Hugo Viana spoke about the appointment of Kolo Toure and specifically mentioned the club's desire to improve progression from the academy. If the board feel that O'Reilly can be let go, fair enough, but it seems unlikely in the face of the desire mentioned. You cannot stop a player's desire though, so if this goes through, it is likely that the player's side will have forced it, as they are entitled to do, if they do not received the guarantees that they are seeking. Personally, I do not think that O'Reilly is yet worthy of guaranteed game time. He has had several good performances that suggest a lot of talent, but so have others.

While it is churlish to argue with the best of all time in pep, he needs to not mortgage our future on making sure his mates play now, we all know how good gundogan and bernie HAVE been but that time is gone and if it means us not doing fantastically then i would rather fail while moving forward with youth than fail while going backwards with aging players who are peps mates.

Maybe the stuff Chelsea has been doing the last 2 years wasn’t that bad.

Even contemplating selling or loaning Nico O Reilly is insanity. He's one of the best young players in the league. If he was at any other club in the league he'd be playing every single week.
Exactly it would be ridiculous. Other top clubs like Madrid, Barca and psg would be playing him and giving him game time - they do with there best young players.

But no let’s keep players gundogan instead and sell/loan O’reily and Bobb. It’s all short term thinking

He’s not guaranteed to start every week, but he’s done more than enough to get game time or a proper chance next season. He was one of our best player towards the end of last season. Other top clubs would not be selling arguably their best young player who’s proven he has the talent to make it.

Every young academy player seemingly wants to leave as they can’t see a path to the first team. That can’t be right. Yet we keep older players or bring in other teams young talent who aren’t as talented

We're coming off the back of winning zero trophies, conceding our most goals in 15 years and looking a shadow of our former selves.

With a squad bloated with old has-beens, injury prone has-beens and a bunch of never-will-bes.

But yeah, carry on clinging to former glory while the club sell off the best academy talent whilst continuing to flush money down a toilet labelled "Gestifute."

No it's not all doom and gloom, yeah we were really good a couple of years ago, but the club have handled the recruitment fucking awfully in the last few years.

So forgive me for not being happy about us losing local talent for the sake of bringing in a bunch of journeymen who aren't suitable to lace the boots of those who came before them.

I agree that he should get game time. What does that look like though? To me, a player like Nico would be a starter in the cup games and receive increasing minutes as a sub in PL games. He may want more than that. If he shows in the cup games and substitute games that he is better than other players then yes, during this season he will command more minutes.

We have to be mindful that agents and players use social media to further their cause regarding contract settlements. I hope he stays, and earns that game time because my favourite part of football is the development of young players.

its not even short term thinking tho is it, it would be short term thinking if those players had shown they can still do it, but last year showed they cant specifically because of their age and now they are a year older are they going to be better, its backwards thinking.

Fuck me how entitled has some of our fanbase become.

I have had an awful night's sleep and I've been pretty disrespectful to certain players who have won us everything, regretfully.

But other than that, is it wrong to feel entitled to free academy players? Even when they were one of your best players last season?
