PL charge City for alleged breaches of financial rules

What’s funny to me is that IF we were given a points deduction that effectively relegated us before a ball was kicked, it would be so freeing as to unleash a team of world class players in a way that would be otherwise impossible!

Teams would still need points off us, but it wouldn’t matter to us what the score was!

Can anyone imagine if Pep’s team talk was “OK lads, you know what you’re doing…go fuck em up and run up the score as much as you can! Let’s show these fuckers what they’re going to be missing for a year next season!”

City games would be the most entertaining game of the week, every week, if the gloves came off, and Ederson might even get to take a few free kicks and penalties!

Inflatable Bananas for everyone! The Party is coming to town!
Nice thought, but we’d be embarking on an appeal lasting several years and the points deduction would be suspended in the meantime. Probably.

Think we'll just have to disagree on this one. I think it doesn't need mentioning unless a club is concerned and selling for those reasons.

Goes to show how people can read something differently - this one I dont think is a major thing either way, but it can happen on bigger things too.
Fair enough.

I believe it was highlighting a large (£25M) cash injection, which is all profit under the rules and is a big number, even today, for an Academy product.

I think everyone in football now understands that City are running a “football finishing school” for the 16-22 crowd who want to be professionals (preferably at City, of course). However, our Academy, while obviously hoping for that £100M breakthrough first team talent, is actually a better than self-sustaining profit center for the club, while also giving the players a football and life education.

It is something of which Mansour & Khaldoon should be rightfully proud, and is now a feather in the cap of the club.

Let’s not forget that for every player, or group of players, that generate £25M in profit each year, they are literally buying 2 to 3 first team squad players who cost the club £125M on 5 year contracts!

Indeed, a £25M McAtee transfer fee and the money from the CWC this summer will about cover the amortization of all the Jan & June new signings for the year! That means the operations of the club will “only” have to cover their wages, and most of them are nowhere near top tier wages. Heck, Grealish’s wad will probably cover 3 or 4 of them!!

With one year on McAtee’s contract, him clearly not signing another one, and having had a decent year at City and an outstanding year with England, it’s the perfect time to literally “profit” from his sale.

I have to put up with Talkshite at work, noticed not a single mention of the city record breaking puma deal, not even on any of the hourly sports news bulletins zilch…might as well never have happened, that station is toxic,I’m genuinely thinking of quitting the job because listening to that fucking rag/dippers/cockney obsessed station is making me question my existence, they never have any city callers on either, pretty sure they refuse to put them to air.
Apart from Jackie knuckles off course, think she’s their go to city fan…not going to say anything naughty, might try and get on one day……pretend I’m a dipper, then let the rockets fly.
Holy fuck. Having to listen to that shite for five minutes is an ordeal but to have in your ear all day most be horendous.

Which is why we would be relegated straight off to protect the integrity (joke) of the competition. They are fast running out of time to go down this path at least for the upcoming season. But your right it would be fun if the rags or dippers came looking for badly needed points and we shit on them.

That would be funny if we won the appeal in April & went from bottom to 20 points clear…..

I've never purposefully gone out of my way to listen to it, but I remember being subjected to it walking past a building site a few months back. That couple of seconds of exposure to it made me lose the will to live.
I guess I'm not the target audience!

Just out of interest, what does "with an eye on" mean to you? Maybe this is an English/American thing?
Being English, and a naturalized American citizen (hence the location), I don’t think it suggests the money is required to be “compliant” in English or “American,” which is where the discussion began.

I know of absolutely no-one who believes City are anywhere close to having to sell McAtee to be PSR/FFP compliant, even given the spending we have done this year. In fact, by the end of August, 2 of our 3 highest 24/25 earners will be gone, too!

Fair enough. To me, it's a prepositional phrase which acts as an adverbial modifier indicating a purpose. The writer made an invalid assumption about purpose or a grammatical error, imho.

Not worth arguing about, though :)

The CFA is a business in its own right. There's an investment from CFG and that investment is expected to produce a return. It's far more likely that any sales involving Academy players is designed to generate an acceptable ROI than meet PSR.

Are the club waiting on this before going into overdrive in the market? Signings are good but have a feeling we're taking water before some big moves. The shirt deal size is aggressively big and we've still got Etihad renewal to announce. With the campus now more valuable it could be a corker.

How much do we think Sheik Mansour Etihad will up their sponsorship ?

I think they are waiting to get shut of a few before making any moves tbf

Khaldoon seemed to suggest other incomings but that could reflect anything I suppose. Can but hope the gaps are filled though

Also, the worst case scenario is a points deduction so big that we are guaranteed relegation to the Championship for the 2026/27 Season - and we'd be back in the Premier League for 2027/28! Puma don't have a lot to lose here.
I think the threat to City is bigger than that if we lose (certainly in respect of the sponsorship deals). It's existential. There will be enormous pressure brought to bear by the media and just about every supporter of every other club to have us thrown out of football altogether. And don't forget that agent Parry has been installed as CEO of the EFL, to queer our pitch in respect of any straightforward relegation. Like Khaldoon said, it's been 'organised and clear' from the off
