Media discussion - 2025/26

Simon Stone has written a very ctitical piece about Man Utd's transfer policy. He's completely correct. I don't read Man Utd articles from other journalists but the BBC Football stories are in your face and you can't miss them. I liked his description of the 5 players banned from Carrington in squad training as the 'bomb squad' and he commented that:

""More pertinently, it lets interested clubs know those players are not wanted, meaning United are negotiating from a position of weakness. And this is a big problem."

Clearly he is correct in this but I am a little surprised that he is so critical of Utd.
Many are critical of them these days, even the rag senior sports reporter on talksport. They’re a laughing stock.

What's wrong with being a rag?
I had 7 brothers who were all Trafford United supporters. Am I supposed to disown them in fear of being ostracised by some people on BlueMoon or am I allowed to continue to love and try to reeducate them by reasoned and sometimes highly amusing discussions either at family gatherings or online?

Don’t bother answering because after nearly 60 years of it I just do the latter!!! ;-) :-)

It’s football people discuss and agree and disagree.

Best Man at my wedding was a Red, our friendship remained in tact for over 40 years until he passed last November, we never fell out about football (or anything else).

I’ve got a lot of Rag friends who I socialise with and on our golf Whattsapp group a few of them show their true colours but they’ve had it back in spades last few years, they know if they take the p with the odd failing of ours it’s not going to last long, love it.

I think its the differentiation between people we know in real life who are good people despite their obvious failings of who they support and so that can be overlook and the idiots who live on social media who talk absolute nonsense for clout and attention, those two are not the same types of people.

*chuckles* Never in a trillion years. 2 things I’d definitely never disown, my ‘little’ brothers and City!!
;-) ;-)
Eccles - you carry on educating the broskis! Were you the only girl?
I've got two bros and I am the only person in the family who has ever liked football and actively supports a team. Even my hubby only takes a passing interest in his home town non league team!

I was/am a 'girly girl -' like all things pink too so being a football and Rugby League fan seems very incongruous with my every day persona!

On a side note I have a very good long standing friend who is an ardent Liverpool fan, we agreed a long time ago not to discuss footy for the sake of our friendship! Its worked for 25 years.

No I had 2 sisters as well. I’m the eldest so I’m in charge they always tell me!! ;-)
Funnily enough I’m the only one who actually attends matches. They are scattered around Britain and Europe now so just watch on TV now.
My eldest son is a Liverpool supporter (not sure where I went wrong there) and he had a season ticket for years with them until he moved to Wales. We also have lively discussions but we’ve never fallen out over football. :-)
We both need to keep up the good work but we’ll never convert them just keep them on the straight and narrow.
:-)

Fans of other clubs have also picked up on Stone's obsession with the Trafford Tramps.
Yet, the BBC seems to continue to ignore his infatuation.
Send a letter to Davie, the BBC Director General, accusing Slimy Simon of racist language and he may be sacked...

That's fab. As the eldest you totally have the authority!

I lived in Eccles until I was 10, I miss the town - although changed very much, and it will always be home.

I didn't take much notice of footy until 1969!, but I do seem to recall lots of folk of red persuasion around. Daft bats!

Naah. Hack his phone, tweet a message with the words Palestine and Action anywhere in any order and he will be sent to Guantanamo Bay for ten years. Job done.

His whole article stinks of hatred and I’d go as far as it tip toeing into racism, also accusing Abu Dubai of propping up Puma,he deserves a slap or two,the strange thing is if we were owned by a European or American I very much doubt this article would have seen light ..
A really strange take by Herbert. Puma are a German global company. They make pure business decisons about where they invest their money. This racist conspiracy has no limits. Apparently "Abu Dhabi" has bribed senior Judges in Europe and the UK, committed fraud on a grand scale involving hundreds of Auditors from the world's leading accountancy firms, taken over Manchester City Council, corrupted officials at UEFA and the PL who are all said to be "in our pocket." And the reason "Abu Dhabi" has done all this (in addition to buying other football clubs across the world) is so it can improve its image and conceal its "human rights" record. I know we exist in a post-Covid, post-truth, world but isn't this lunatic theory just a bit of a stretch.

I think Davie has enough on his plate these days trying to hang on to his job.

its quite incredible that a supposed excuse for a journalist doesnt know the libel laws, we have been ACCUSED of cheating and that is the keyword here, we have been convicted of nothing but he is saying unequivocally that we have cheated and that is libel, yet teams who have been convicted of cheating get a pass.
The foulest sludge at the bottom of the cartel sewer pipe. He uses caveats as disposable wrapping, an utterly shameless and terminally stupid dipper cockroach who I think wants City to sue him so they can erect his shrine at Klanfield.
