Manchester Airport police assault trial | Man found guilty of assaulting two female police officers

We need to recall the way some sections of the press stirred it up against the police in the days after the attack, implying the incident was some unhinged, racially motivated beating by cops on two innocent men. Took days for the video of the assault that provoked it to come out. Does not help the temperature in the country when the press do this.

Apparently the max sentence for ABH is 5 years unless racially aggregated in which case 7.

Doesn't sound like enough for me, especially since that's the maximum for the most serious offences with aggravating factors.

However I subsequently find this is per offence, and it would seem multiple assaults occurred. So I hope the courts do the right thing and give them significantly more than 5.

I don't hold out much hope though tbh with our soft namby pamby justice system*. They'll probably get 3, and be out in 14 months. Twats.

The BBC website said that the trial continues next week.
Never ceases to amaze me how long trials take.

Should be: watch the videos, hear some testimony, wrap up. 2 days max, sentenced 3rd day.

But no, they string it out for weeks.

How long did it take to lock up the Southport protesters?

What amazes me is that the younger brother is saying he is a student.
So where the hell is he getting the money to pay Imran Khan and another barrister for a month long trial.
Unless the 2 barristers are working gratis to help a brother Asian.

It's the BBC using the words to describe him and it's to garner sympathy.

They (the BBC) have turned into a truly revolting organisation haven't they. They get on the wrong side of the argument every fucking time. I can't bear to listen to them with their constant political preaching. And if you complain they just write back and tell you (in terms) to fuck off. 1 complaint in every 600 million is upheld. Shameful.

I would disband them immediately and save us all a fortune.

Mrs Brown's boys FFS.

"Mr Greaney asked whether he thought PC Ward was part of a group trying to murder him.
Mr Amaaz said: "She was part of that group. I believed PC Marsden tried to kill me."

The prosecutor asked the defendant: "Do you still believe that now?"

"Yes."

This is, quite frankly , turning into a farce.

They plead guilty. All they needed was a sentencing hearing.

Did all of them? Maybe so.

What a stitch up that was as well. Many of them would I am sure have got off, but we're threatened with lengthy periods on demand and conned that they'd avoid jail if they just pleaded guilty. Another scandal.

Yes. All those that plead not guilty would have to have a trial booked in.

But not necessarily be held on remand.

The interesting thing as well is the percentages of those charged that chose to plead guilty. It was conspicuously high, especially minors where 71 out of 73 pleaded guilty - 97%.

For indictable offenses, around 65-70% of defendants typically plead guilty at the first hearing according to Ministry of Justice data from recent years, with rates decreasing for more serious public order and riot-related charges!

So whilst not conclusive, it does appear that they were coerced into pleadung guilty when in some cases they perhaps should not have done so. There's at least one case I'm aware of where the individual absolutely did not riot, merely protested and yet received a custodial sentence. Appalling.

False equivalence altogether. Those rioters had already entered guilty pleas. This is a trial that takes as long it takes. There will be lots of witnesses to examine, and cross examine. That needs their availability to be arranged, so the human element. There were several police officers who were victims and their evidence to be heard. The cctv has been gone through. There will have been medical evidence to go through as well. Takes as long as needed. I think you are mixing trials up with sentencing hearings here?

They are just factually reporting what those cunts have said in their evidence in their trial

They reported him as a student they could have omitted that pathetic attempt at sympathy or actually explained that's how the vile bastard was described.
