Bus Crash in Eccles

He turned down the wrong road. That bus (100) doesn't go that way. Single deck buses only. Coming the other way has chains hanging down to let you know the height, but they're missing on the side the bus came through.
Still, the driver took the wrong turn.
Hope the 15 aren't too seriously hurt.

Scary as fuck that video. What a stupid twat of a driver, must be a rookie.
He's in serious trouble, I'd say, if the earlier comments about him not meant to be on that road is true. And no, he doesn't appear to slow down. They're very lucky that, as of now, no one has died. Hopefully, the critically injured person pulls through.

I'm not being funny but this Bee Network shite has been appalling.
My daughter's school bus before the bee network took over was always on time, was a reasonable size and NEVER got lost.

Now?

A vehicle just slightly bigger than a minibus turns up, kids standing up half the time as there are no seats, that's when it does turn up, always late. One day it ended up going halfway into Manchester despite the kids telling the bus driver he was going the wrong way.
Half the time on a Friday it never turns up. It's been a complete and utter fuckin shambles.

So it's no surprise that something like this has happened. I think it's a case of the management saying to a driver " here's your keys, there is your map, there's your bus, see you later."

They do get extensive training but I suppose its not infallible. About a month ago I was going home and a single decker coming the other way signalled left I assumed to pull into the bus stop on my right shoulder but no he went right onto my estate where I was turning right. It was the slowest 200yds I have ever done down Falcon Way and I could see a passenger had stood up next to him to direct him down the estate and back onto the main road. Perilous given the parked cars either side. I hoped/assumed that was a newby too who had misread his route guide

Happens quite regularly there. But it’s normally when they’re running empty with no punters back to the depot.

This one has taken the route of the 52 which is obviously always a single decker. My only guess can be that he’s left the Trafford Centre, forgot he was driving a 100, which should have gone straight on at those lights and thought he was on a 52, which goes right and under the bridge.

Check google maps.

The warning chains on the side the bus approached from have been put on the wrong side of the road. They only alert drivers after they have passed under the canal from the other direction. What idiot was responsible for that blunder.

Good point apart from they don't have keys or a map :-).

If you zoom in, there are chains right across the road. But on the side you need them, they are wrapped around the stantion and not dangling down. Presumably the last bus to hit it about six months ago from memory, did that. Or one of numerous previous buses and lorries to hit it and they didn’t get round to untangling them.

Sorry this was supposed to be a reply to the person who posted the photo off google maps a few posts back.

Generally it’s being viewed as a success but it’s still very early days. I agree buses should be big enough to fit all the kids in seats though. Andy Burnham appears on Radio Manchester every week (Mike Sweeney’s show), so you can send your issue directly to him and hear his response.

This is a known accident spot with double deckers! There are signs coming from the other direction saying low bridge and there used to be a metal piece hanging across but that was knocked off apparently by a lorry hitting it and it not being replaced.
However the direction the bus was travelling doesn’t appear to have a sign.

There should be a no right turn for double decker buses sign at those traffic lights in my opinion. I have said this a number of times over the years.

I just hope the woman who was flung off the top deck and lay on the road recovers.
There have been far too many of these accidents over the years.
