Ederson is good enough to play round any press...Trafford isn't. Trafford is the better shot stopper but if we continue to play out from the back without Ederson, Trafford could get exposed due to the improvement of teams pressing in general as you pointed out
As I said, he is cooked, and his mind is elsewhere. I'm not sure we need a sweeper anymore, and I'm pretty sure he's no sweeper keeper anymore. He's gone, either this season or next. I thank him for his great service, but he's been on the wane for 2 years.
Trafford is good with his feet; whoever gets him is very lucky for the price mooted.

i liked that young irish goalkeeper we had a lot too, i think he had a serious injury though, not sure what happened to him

That's also my last real memory of him having not seen him in the championship. I hear he had a great season last year but he also had a great season 3 years ago when they last got promoted.

The hope is hes learned, benefitted from the experinece and improved enough to now belong at this level but until he makes the step up and shows hes premier league level every 3/4 days theres going to be legitimate question marks which makes him a tremendous risk.
There are risks with any signing. If we bought Donnarruma, the risk is that he would completely compromise the way we play; the same risk with nearly every keeper bar Ederson because nobody can get near him with his passing ability (the bedrock of our play). Any keeper from a foreign league is a risk in terms of how they settle in the country, and in the league. The point is valid that he will need to make a step-up, but so will nearly every player in the squad: Haaland, Foden, Bernardo, Dias, Guardiola...the list of who needs to do better this year is a very long one. I think we will need to strap ourselves in but I am so excited for the journey. Mostly, I want to be thrilled, and I think we have the young talent to do that. Whether it all pans out is just sport.

Tell me, do we really only have one pre-season game (ignoring the CWC)?

That's just an assumption because those that watch him say he's very good with his feet and calm, maybe not EDerson, but still very good.

Ederson is a freak in that no keeper is at that level with his feet. Almost a midfielder in net.
He has to go at some point and we need to look at life after Pep. He won’t be here forever either.
There is a feel that some players we are signing are with an eye on the next manager.
That’s good planning.
A goalkeeper being good with his feet is always going to be a thing now because of Pep. But not as important for every manager.
I’d prefer my keeper to save a few more rather than setting more chances up.
There is nothing more annoying than dominating a game and conceding from the only shot by the oppo.
I think Ederson can do more verbally to organise the defence more. I don’t think he talks much on-field. I think Trafford would give us that.

I think he wants a change and that's fair enough. There's no smoke without fire and it was telling that with the likes of Aguero, Silva and there was no smoke.

I agree, he will be gone within a couple of seasons and if that's his mindset then we need to move him on as soon as possible.

Joe Hart was bought before the takeover, we were shopping in very different markets back then, but I agree mate.

Also Joe Hart spend a season on loan at Birmingham before he broke fully into our team, was nominated for PFA young player of the year whilst on loan there and was put into the PFA team of the year.

That is some feat considering some of the GKs that were in the league at the time.

Trafford doesn't even touch Harts weak left wrist at the same age.

Every club in the country wanted Joe Hart at that particular time, Mancini recognized it and went with him.
Except James is the same age that Joe was when he went to Brum, and he's already had a similarly record-breaking season and is currently desired by multiple UCL clubs.

So he's achieving the same thing, and a year earlier on. Yeah, terrible that.

That's him, Gavin Bazunu, not had a good 15 months. Sold to Southampton in 2022, in April 2024 he had an achilles injury and didn't play again until January 2025. Three months later (April 2025) he did his knee in (meniscus injury) whilst on loan at Standard Liege which ended his loan spell, I'm not sure if he's back or not yet.

Got a horrible feeling that Ederson will go to Turkey for a few bob and in 12 months time he will be back in the PL at Chelsea or Arsenal and Galatasaray will make a huge profit on their investment. He’s got another 5 years or more in him as a keeper. Villa want £40m for Martinez who’s a similar age.

If he does it’ll be funny seeing Haaland put 10 past him when we play Arsenal ;)
