Hopefully we can get back to being top. I’m still confused as to how Arsenal are above PSG.They were top, very briefly, but Chelsea killed them. We were top for about 2 years straight.

It’s not based on trophies. It partly contains underlying statistics like xG. Believe it or not Arsenal were unlucky against PSG. Arsenal finishing second in the PL has probably earned them more points than PSG winning the French league as it’s tougher opposition etc etc. It close though PSG were top before Chelsea and Cole Palmer wiped the floor with them.Hopefully we can get back to being top. The algorithm allows for all those criteria. Opta is essentially an Elo hybrid model and is self correcting.I know it’s not based on trophies…
Re Chelsea… That’s where it becomes skewed then, as the CWC shouldn’t really be used as part of the equation. Not all teams in the list participated and the opponents were so varied in ability.

OK Crystal Palace better than us then. Not basing it on trophies instantly makes it irrelevant as they’re the most important thing. Arsenal could look like prime Barca for 8 months but if they crumble when it matters they’re nowhere near any top side ever.
Our Pellegrini title winning team is better than any Arteta side.
What did the Romans ever do for us.:-)OK but what has Pep really done
It was hard to compete with having so many players injured, on the operating table or half fit and having to play. But a lot of City fans seem to forget that. In the end we did well to finish third and win more games than ArsenalSame shite spouted, confusing entitled with having standards. Last year wasn't good enough for many different reasons, down to planning, players, injuries and Pep not finding solutions. As fans, fans who pay a fortune to follow our club, we are ok to question things during periods like that. Isn't about winning, it is about competing and last season was a shit show. Nothing plastic about that, just not small time with a 90s mentality. We have one of the best managers ever, an expensive squad with quality players and the best people in the business running us. They won't be happy with last years standards and neither should we be as fans. They get our support at games, they get cheered and supported week in, week out, up and down the country and overseas. The second they start getting abuse at games I will agree but fans are allowed to call out a slip in standards on an internet forum that discusses such things. But again, that doesn't mean winning everything, it means competing.
He's not always appreciated on here as he's not Bob or pep. Also throw in the league cup for good measure, but alas he still wasn't deemed worthy
It's nothing to do with failing FFP itself. The PL rules require the submission of accurate financial information to them as they assess FFP compliance. If they think we've not done that (and they are alleging we haven't) then we're in breach of those rules. Doesn't matter whether we'd have passed FFP or not even if the information had been accurate.Maybe a daft question as I'm clueless on these matters, but I'll ask it anyway. 5 of the Premier League's 115 charges levied against City relate to non-compliance with UEFA's Club Licensing and FFP rules. In recent memory UEFA have sanctioned Trafford United, Aston Villa and Chelsea. As those clubs have not been compliant with UEFA rules, why haven't they too been charged by the Premier League?
That's actually piss poor if them numbers are right.Pep’s on 787 points in the Premier League and Fergie is on 810. Although Sour Alex won another 361 before the PL. Hopefully Pep will hang around long enough to surpass him.
And people also forget that to win everything in the game, and to keep winning, breaking all records, and then to go again, is uniquely demanding mentally and physically. What we have done has NEVER been done. We can be disappointed with last season AND realistic - to finish third in such a scenario with a fit squad would be a very solid result. To do it in the face of a chronic injury and illness list (no doubt including mental fatigue) is something to be content with and to learn from, as it looks like we have done and are doing. It was hard to compete with having so many players injured, on the operating table or half fit and having to play. But a lot of City fans seem to forget that. In the end we did well to finish third and win more games than Arsenal
And, in that time (Pep time)
17 major honours
The treble
4 in a row
Domestic treble
100 points in a season
90+ points in four seasons (only ever been done 5 times before and one of those was a 42 game season)
Average of 89 points a season
246 wins out of 342 league games, 25 more than any other team in the same period (72%).
Scored 827 league goals (almost 2.5 per game), 80 more than Liverpool, whilst conceding 293, with Liverpool next best on 331.
The goal difference is a ridiculous +534, with Liverpool next on +413, then Arsenal on +257. EVERY other team is over 300 behind!
Guardiola won 704 points in his first 300 Premier League matches, which is 70 more than next best Jose Mourinho.
He became the fastest manager in Premier League history to earn 500 points when City drew 1-1 with Southampton in January 2022 (his 213th game.)
The only English top-flight team to score 100 goals at home in a single season in all competitions, doing so twice (2018/19 and 2022/23).
14 consecutive wins to end the 2018/19 Premier League season is the longest run of victories at the end of a campaign.
The 4-0 win over Newcastle in December 2021 was our 34th of that calendar year – a new English football record for the most top-flight wins in a calendar year, which was also our 18th away league win of the year - more than any other top-flight side has managed in the history of English football.
A few other PL records we’ve got.
Biggest title winning margin - 19 points
Smallest title winning margin - +8 GD
Most away points in a season - 50
Most away wins in a season - 16
Most consecutive away wins in a season - 12
Most goals scored in a season- 106
Most Golden Glove winners - 7
I wonder why any sponsor want to be associated with the above???
What an absolute mint team we’ve been watching these last few years and I’m very much looking forward to watching the new version emerge over the next year or two.
Somewhat unbelievable the amount of criticism they attract, especially on this site…
Many of Ferguson's years were before the PL existed. He managed them for 21 years in the PL, compared to Pep's nine years so far. That's actually piss poor if them numbers are right.
The old **** was in the box seat for nearly three decades.
The pisscan really was a legend in his own lunchtime.
Yes, I understand he was managing them before the premier league started in 1992.Many of Ferguson's years were before the PL existed. He managed them for 21 years in the PL, compared to Pep's nine years so far.
OK Crystal Palace better than us then.
