Top 2 clubs get “second leg at home” advantage the whole way to the final, but if you beat them, then you “steal” that advantage from them!
Yes - so if you don't finish 1st or 2nd, you'd be better off finishing 7th or 8th than 3rd-6th if what you really want is home advantage in the second leg of the semi. The place not to finish is 11th-12th as you'll never get home advantage second from the last 16 stage onwards (if I've read the rules correctly).

same as my previous response to another poster.

He will not have agreed to join us, to sit as number 2 when was guaranteed Number 1 at Newcastle or Burnley
I think he would have accepted that he will be considered the “lesser of two equals” No1 keeper, who will get plenty of game time and will be fighting to become the No1 before Ederson leaves next season.

Personally, he’d be crazy NOT to take that deal, knowing it could not only give him the opportunity for a nice 10+ yr stint as City’s No1 and he’ll probably make 50-100% more money at City than NUFC or Burnley!

Context. Burnley dont play the same way we do. I read that a good portion of his 'passing' at Burnley was long balls.

I havent really seen him playing the ball so cant comment on his ability but just wanted to put some contect to those numbers.
He played under Vinny in PL who wanted the ball passed out JT was proficient but the rest of the team weren’t he’s fine with his feet and will benefit from players who understand the system

Put it another way then, he hasnt impressed me when i've watched him play.
He's been ok but nothing special. I hope he turns out to be special and fully shows me up for a shit rater of players
When did you last watch him play?

I’m happy with this signing and looking forward to see how he develops - a season with Ederson where he gets reasonable game time is a good way of bedding him with reduced pressure on his shoulders assuming Eddie is away next summer.

He’s young but from all the interviews I’ve seen he comes across as a very mature and focused lad.

Where he was two years ago and the experience he has now accrued will help him greatly coming back to us. He’s still learning his trade, physically developing etc so where he could be in another couple of years is quite exciting.

For the fee involved it’s an absolute no brainer, if things go well we could be looking at our number 1 for the next decade.

It's worth mentioning that he's only a year younger than Eddie was when he first joined, and he was an instant success. The modern game seems to be seeing far more keepers at top clubs at a younger age, from Donnarumma, to Courtois, to De Gea, and Eddie himself.

I'm excited for this.

The jump from Championship to Prem title contender is obviously huge, but Trafford is a player. He's not Ederson, but he's better with his feet than people are giving him credit for, and he's a good shot stopper as well. Interested to see if Eddie is off as well or hangs on for another season.

You can't understate the value of having a young, club trained player as a starter. Especially at keeper where he could conceivably start for the next 10+ years.

I'm also learning he was born in a town called Cockermouth. The jokes write themselves.
It could be worse, he could have come from Scunthorpe or Penistone?

Viana masterclass ? Thanks to a Tixi selling him with the right clauses more like ?

Don’t get the 1 hour deadline bit
Really not a fan of that to be honest I'm glad he's coming back but would have preferred that we wanted him and matched straight away sounds like we aren't sure if we want him or not and flipped a coin an hour before the deadline.

I think this is a good deal. We're getting him cheaper than a rival. He has premier league experience. He knows the club inside out. He may be good enough to replace Ederson or fight with Ortega for the number 1 jersey...that will depend how things go before the end of August. We just don't know how Ederson or Ortega will react to this. He is young. He is English. He is tall. He can save shots. Nice one Pep.

So traffords sitting on the bench for a season?

Gone from first choice at Burnley, probably Newcastle to then being a bench warmer. I can’t see it.

He's presumably not looking so short term as that.

He isnt going to sign on a 1 year contract. He's coming here on a 5 year deal and with the next decade in mind.

What's a year or 2 playing the backup role, integrating himself into the side, getting that settling in period the majority that come here need without the pressure of being our number 1 on his shoulders.

If he signs for Newcastle, hes stuck there. The dream of being city's number 1 dies, he'll be locked into a 5 year contract, Newcastle won't have any desire to sell if he does well, we arent going to go and give them 2/3/4 times the price we can get him for now to get him back so the only way out is to run down his contract.

So what's best, have a year as backup knowing you're next in line, getting a taste of playing for us and having the opportunity to establish himself if he does well or go Newcastle be number 1 now ( is that even guaranteed?) Being there for the foreseeable and kill any dream of playing for us?

Its really not this unthinkable move some are suggesting and is actually the smart move for anybody that is able to look further than the immediate season ahead. Its reminiscent of the "foden needs to go on loan" argument.
