It's Quiet the £250m return

Bah will be starting centre back next summer. He's just a talent anomaly. Great on the ball, strong physically uses his body well, intelligent with his decision making and he's got speed. Complete package that just needs to be refined. I have no doubt he will be the talk of the season in France. The games he played last season on loan, he looked incredible
That’s a new one. Are we talking about the same Bah? Knowing us he will sit on the bench because he isn’t „ experienced „ enough

yes that's how I see it viana building a team /squad for the next decade add a couple academy players fingers crossed mfuni??the kid from sarsfield we keep getting linked with and then world domination for the next decade piece of piss this squad building maybe a r/b I'm kidding:)

The replacement of the old guard is taking place, former captains Walker and KDB are out, but it need not be total. You need continuity to preserve the culture of success and winning mentality. I'm not against letting, say, Gundo go. I'm questioning the conviction of some posters that Pep doesn't understand what needs to be done, that is, that we need to replace more of the older players.

There's no fixed rule how to find balance between youth and experience in building a team, but there must be balance. Also, intelligence is key. One of the reason why many fans were sceptical about Gundo and Rodri several years ago was that they couldn't appreciate their intelligence due to overrating pace and aggressiveness. Legs are not enough to make it at the highest level. The head controls everything.
Fair enough. Busquets never had strong physical qualities but he had extremely high football IQ. I adore players with high IQs.

I however understand that it’s Aug and only KDB and Carson have left. I was expecting more. Perhaps my excitement got the better of me.

The crux of the issue is holding onto players that I already know what they can do and what Pep has shown he prefers. Whether it’s wrong or not.

I can’t speak on others only myself. I don’t want my club to make any more mistakes. They’ve addressed many. But if you’re telling guys like O Riley, Nico G, Khusonov to hold on but nobody is leaving and the old guard is still favoured, then what are really doing here ? What’s the end goal ?

We aren't telling anyone the old guard is still favoured, we are telling Reis, Echeverri we can't register them yet because the old players aren't leaving yet,not because we are actively holding onto them because they don't want to or haven't had offers they want a very different scenario.
This Pep prefers to play the older players is just something based on last season when for the first haf he hadn't much choice. It presumes 1 of 2 things, either Pep can't see what his best team is , or Pep can see what his best team is but purposley plays a weaker team because he isn't bothered about winning anymore. Does anyone seriously think either of those 2 are really remotely possible?

Pep prefers to play who he knows & trusts. We saw that in the CWC where Gonzalez barely played. This could be viewed two ways.

1. Pep doesn't fancy Gonzalez yet.

2. Pep wanted to see his old guard to make a final judgement on who stays & goes.

Either way, it seems odd that we bought so many new players & many are struggling for game time, or are earmarked for loan moves.

Just need to trust Viana's signings his hit rate at Sporting was near perfection.

Nuno mendes
Diomande
Gyokeres
Matheus nunes
Ugarte
Pedro porro
Palhinha
Hjulmand.
There’s levels to this shit, just because he did good at a lesser team doesn’t mean he’ll do good for a big club like City. For me his signings so far don’t look like anything special at all (except Reijnders who’s incredible) and Viana hasn’t been able to get rid of players like Grealish and Ederson who are past their best. Apparently The news from the club is we are now done for the summer, and the XI (especially the GK, RB and Wingers) we have now ain’t winning the league unless Liverpool especially have a shocker, and we can forget about the UCL. Hope I’m wrong though.

We also don't know who may have had minor knocks or who he may have played if as we probably expected we won the match.
I wouldn't read too much into it.

Not long after we were knocked out of the CWC, reports started circulating that Nico Gonzalez wanted out of City. Counter reports then said NG was in Pep's plans.

His career was on the up, & coming to City was a dream move for him. To go from playing first team football, to hardly featuring at all, especially with a WC year coming up, must be difficult for Gonzalez to take.

It'll be very interesting to see who of the old guard remains or leaves. Will Pep fall back on those he knows if they remain, even though some have been told they're free to leave?

Or will Pep say "Stay if you wish, but you're way down the pecking order & will barely kick a ball"?

We would have expected to go further in the tournament and do not know which players would have featured in later games.
As it was, several players started one match only, including Reis and Gonzalez.
The new season will tell us far more than the CWC could ever tell us.

Would it have not been more prudent to test some of those newer players for extended times rather than playing players he knows full well about? Do you think its better to test them through the demanding prem season - do you even think Pep will do that...Im not so sure he will. There is a scenario where he continues to start Gundo, Bernardo (who is now capt) - especially if Rodri is missing games. (dont get me wrong, Bernardo Silva is one of my favourite players of all time and at the end of last season I was saying that out of all the old players he was the one I would keep).

How much time did Reis, Khusonov, Gonzales get?

Khusonov - 61mins
Nico G - 61mins
Reis - 90 mins

The tournament could have been used better to test some of these players....no one really cared about the results so even if we had got knocked out at the group stage it would have been better to see those players get extended minutes on the pitch
Pep could have used it to test whether Khusonov could cover the right back role for starters..or the same with Reis

We will see with what team he goes with next weekend in the friendly I guess.

Maybe it wasn't for Peps benefit, maybe the new coaching team wanted a good look at all the options before the season. Don't know but these things don't happen without lots of thought and good reason.Just because we don't know the thinking doesn't mean there isn't any and a lot of it.

Im sure that there is a lot of thinking.

BUt nothing helps coaches prepare and understand what players can do in competative situations more than watching for instance Reis play fullback for 90 mins vs Juve or Khusonov....

The top coaches will know what Nunes has to offer in that position for instance or Rico Lewis.

We know what Akanji brings to centre half or Dias but do we knw what either of the two new lads bring alongside Gvardiol for instance?

Even if we accept that sometimes Pep is not sure what his best team is due to various trade-offs concerning experience, leadership, energy, pace, and so on, the confidence some on here have they *know* Pep is wrong is really stupid.

I think Pep has his doubts, because it's not always possible to calculate all pros and cons of playing more experienced than more energetic players, but those lacking any doubt they are right that having, say, O'Reilly in midfield instead of Gundogan will 100% make us better are just being foolish. Sorry to be rude, but this is how it is: fans lecturing the best manager in history what he needs to do to have success.

Agreed. But a lot also depends on what happens with players like Stones, Gundog & Ederson who're ageing, injury the final year of their contracts & have stated they're staying.

Perhaps someone can clarify our contractual position if they remained & we chose not to register them for the CL or PL squads?

I`ve read some shite but this comes very close to one of the worst posts ever. We have NO idea as to who signed or orchestrated the signings of our newies, so to start fucking blaming Viana is just plain stupid.
As for not being able to "get rid" of certain players once again you know fuck all as to where we are with some of our outgoing players and seeing theres another four weeks left. You need to keep your dummy in yer gob and stop spitting it out.

Tiered speculation often brings unnecessary tears. Check your premises friend.

Echeverri seems a problem for us, wants to go Roma to play European football , club want him to go Girona. Roma want an option to buy after the loan. Echeverri side pushing for Roma.

Manchester City are in advanced talks over a move for 19-year-old Argentine Vélez Sarsfield forward Maher Carrizo, according to César Luis Merlo. A deal worth under €16 million (£13.8 million, $18.3 million) could be struck soon. The youth international's contract with Vélez Sarsfield runs until December 2026, and his current market value is estimated by Transfermarkt at €6.00 million; River Plate have also been linked with the forward.

Won't matter. Sign him, loan him out, never see him. Don't sign him, never see him. We need a separate transfer thread for purchases like this.
