30 | Claudio Echeverri - 2025/26 (on loan at Leverkeusen)

Am aware of that and obviously we have previous dealings with Girona.
I was more interested in why it is Echeverri that we want to send there as opposed to some of our other players. I get the language etc.but it does not seem that we had issues with Reis, Bah and other loanees
It appears as if he doesn't want to go there
If I looked at his situation completely dispassionately, then I’d certainly favour Roma over Girona. There is the lure of a major city, European League football, Gasperini, perhaps playing with fellow Argentines Dybala and Soule, and the outside chance of making the World Cup squad next summer. Girona remains a footballing backwater by comparison, but it also remains part of the CFG and gives the impression of still being on the pathway to our first team. It might also be, though, that he’s looked at our squad up close and thinks that his pathway to immediate progression is blocked so better move now and to somewhere outside of the club’s orbit.

Yesterday, Pep wanted Echeverri to stay. Today, the entourage want to choose his club. This is the danger of social media with aggregators selecting the unsubstantiated quotes of random journalists for maximum engagement.

Them wanting Roma was days before pep says he could stay

Roma accelerates for Echeverri

Roma is ready to close a shot of great prospects: Claudio Echeverri, talented Argentine quarterback born in 2006, is one step away from the loan transfer from Manchester City. The player, considered one of the most brilliant promises of South American football, could land in Serie A to mature under the guidance of Gian Piero Gasperini, new coach of the Giallorossi club

MThe Citizens coach, Pep Guardiola, firmly believes in Echeverri's potential, but considers an intermediate step in a competitive context that can accelerate his growth essential.Roma represents, from this point of view, an ideal destination: the technical project provides for a regular use of the young Argentine, who would be gradually inserted in the midfield rotations.

Heir of Pellegrini?

Echeverri is seen as a possible long-term heir of Lorenzo Pellegrini, thanks to his vision of the game, dynamism and natural offensive propensity. The boy, excited about the idea of measuring himself with the tactical needs of Serie A, gave his consent to the transfer. The operation, which would be configured as an annual dry loan, could be made official in the coming days.

Sounds great this lad, let’s get him in for next season.

He most likely doesn’t want to end up playing a low block. Also I guess there were several teams interested in him who play in Europe so he himself expects himself to play in Europe when moving.
Argentinian people speak Italian too by the way not just Spanish.
the club should easily be able to install a certain amount of minute/ games he has to play into the loan contract if he only wants Roma. We don’t know what Roma promised him during the loan.

Loan to Roma with option to buy !

You 3 days behind and that supposed report is just that a report! I very much doubt they’ll be any buy option! Just because when pep leaves he be 21/22 and the new manager will want to look at all the players first hand..

Playing at Roma, at such a huge club in a fantastic city and under Gasperini is a fantastic opportunity for his development. However it’s unlikely, afterwards, he is going to be happy, returning to Manchester to put the cones out. Great move for the kid but could hasten his departure.

Disappointing to say the least if he goes anywhere. Not to mind with an option to buy.

It's disappointment after disappointment for the past few years. Obviously we've suffered a lot worse but it's just that signing new exciting players only for them to leave because a bunch of our older players are needed to steady the ship but seem more likely to tip it over is so fucking ... disappointing.

Would be massively disappointed with him for not taking Girona if he goes out on loan.

I'm on holiday for a weekend in Barcelona later this month and fitting in a Girona game on the Sunday.

Other than that, I'm not fussed and hope he starts somewhere.
