Mark Bittner RIP

He ran for the 2nd Fan On The Board position during the Franny Lee tenure.
There was a bit of a furore amidst allegations of vote rigging and in the end both Mark and Dave Wallace were announced as winners! I think it was shortly after the 2nd vote (a few months or so but happy to be corrected) that the whole role was abandoned by the club.

Yeah that role was pure pr bullshit, similar in its day to City Matters. Just a box ticking exercise

I knew Mark very well in the late 1960s and we`d meet up with his other mates in the downstairs pub by the old Piccadilly Bus Terminus in town.(Can anyone remember the name of it ?)
He used to go out with my ex`s best mate and we`d meet up and way back when we played West Brom in the LC Final twelve of us travelled down to London with one of his mates "finding" us all rail tickets for £2 each.
He then moved away to Saudi teaching and it was many years later that we met by accident on Crewe Station and he told me to come over to his pub next to the golf course somewhere in Staffs.
He treated me and the missus to our dinner at his gaff and he had pictures all around the pub of his time in Saudi where he also managed a football team over there and was quite successful.
Great lad, always enjoyed his company and as other have said a loveable rogue who always looked after City fans at away games if they were in trouble,
RIP Mark and so sorry to hear of your passing old mate.
Cheers
Oakie

Many memories of him, maybe one not known was his short stint as a Barman in the Dive Bar under the Piccadilly Hotel. Bumped into him from time to time over the years. Always a character.
RIP Mark.
Bloody hell WR I`ve just made a post and asked if anyone could remember the name of that pub The Dive Bar as thats where about ten of us would meet up before the home games and I became good friends with Mark.

I remember it too because I was about to turn off the M6 and it was clear and frosty and it came over the radio that it was a frozen pitch, not waterlogged. Definitely around Christmas but may bave been a day or so ater boxing day.
It was Dave as we only had a short way to travel as Crewe is only 9 miles away from Winsford.

Was it the Portland Bar? Also known as the Dive Bar?

Are you thinking of the Dive Bar?

portland bars ,i witnessed a well known city fan attack some liverpool fans in there one night, not nice, very vicious

Seems Mark had financial difficulties at the end.
Delighted to have helped out an old friends family and hope a few more can help them raise the figure they were looking for.
RIP old mate.

Crewe boxing day .....I remember being at Crewe and drinking pre match in a pub when someone walked in and said it's off, waterlogged pitch.not sure if it was boxing day ..went a few times back in the day
In them days,my City mental days ,it was as tho someone had put a dagger thru the heart
Atmosphere immediately dropped to the floor.....proper empty feeling .
I used to hate matches getting called off.

If it’s the same game (circa 1998 - 2001) we ended up turning round and ten pin bowling in Stockport or Didsbury. Yes total deflating feeling when a match got cancelled.

Ipswich was worst though the Franny Lee takeover year as we were 2-0 up and desperate, at the time, for the points.
