Took a while but Coombs has signed a one year extension

Interview below

Sorry that was a joke answer, but I think a better joke answer would have been 'no'.

I think it's ok. We're possibly a bit little in the old style combative midfielders and she can do a bit of everything, so I don't think it's a bad thing. Play time may end up limited a touch by Sydney Lohman signing I guess.

Nice one. Didn't know anything about her but my daughter just said l, "ITS LAURA NOT LAUREN!!" When I told her the news.

Yeah as has been said really. She’s not going to be the difference maker but she’s a solid player and loves a worldie goal

Off the top of my head I think she’s the oldest player in the squad so good to have around with a lot of the younger players

Following on from this and the announcement of Coombs extension, what do we think about having individual player threads similar to the mens team?
I think thats a good idea. They might not get used as much as the men's ones but we have a whole forum here and all of the traffic currently just gets lumped into one thread whether its about City or not. So we could defo be making better use of it ha.

Yeah, I've often seen something dumped in the main thread and thought 'why isn't that in the player's thread?' then realised we don't have one :-)

I think we were forced to play her more often than we'd have liked last season due to our injury problems, but for me a fit and rested Laura is
well worth having in the squad
I think you might be merging the last two seasons together in your head... she started just over half the matches 2 seasons ago, but only 6 last year (which was more than I thought; mostly towards the end) as she was injured for a lot of last season too. (Didn't we have 14 players out at one point and she was one of them? There was certainly quite a spell where she didn't feature in squads and we weren't naming anything like a full number of subs.)

Anyway, when she was over the media the other week, I thought she must be signing an extension and staying this season.

If we're not signing another midfielder, it makes sense to keep her around as others have said. It's not as if we are well stocked in that position.

Hope someone has a word with Keating.

Think she needs a role model off the pitch or she will fuck up her chances on it.

Hard to know what to make of Keating and why her career stalled last year. Its obvious she has all of the raw attributes to be one of the very best.

She has a very happy go lucky attitude. It makes her a great member of a squad but does it mean she's also lacking that elite mindset to establish herself? Could be a maturity thing too though and we see her step up over the next season or two. There were a couple of question marks over Hampton's attitude and application a couple of years ago when she was Keating's age but now her mentality is second to none.

I think what gets talked about less is how she was probably a victim of naive tactics from Taylor and a very injury disrupted backline too last year. We were very married to playing out from the back and stuck to that rigidly even when we didn't have players with the skillset to play that way. It put her under an immense amount of pressure. How many of her howlers were down to poor decision making vs poor tactics im not totally sure of.

There's no doubt for me though that us having a serious coach should give her a better chance of thriving this season. And I think her Summer with England will have done her a power of good. She seems to have stuck up a great bond with Michelle Agyemang who I think sets a great example for any young player when it comes to elite mentality, dedication and humility.

Its a huge season for her though. We need to see the Keating of 23/24 if she's to get her career firmly back on track.

I don't rate her as "first team", and I don't think she adds much as a sub either, just a sign of where we are at for me, not really aiming for the top.
Agree - but unless we're signing 3/4 25-28 year olds (spoiler: we're not), then having someone to play the Steph Houghton role makes sense. Half of our squad are 22 or less.

Any way - good news:

Looks like Bunny's staying

Of all our senior/key players, she was the one most likely to leave in the next month.

Main concern for Shaw is that its the final year of her contract. I really hope we get off to a flyer this season and get her to extend asap.

She's only just 21 and the worst aspect of her game is decision making. She's super young for a goalkeeper, and that decision making should improve over time.

For me, she needs a top top GK coach. Someone that's been there and done it. She's got the raw ingredients of a top keeper but she just needs to sort that decision making out, it cost City a CL place last season - the one against Everton in particular was pretty bad, she was never getting that cross.

I wish someone like Weaver would join the coaching staff for the women's team.
