North Stand Construction Discussion

Oh, you were serious then? ;)

Like the sails and the outrage they caused initially, I'm firmly of the opinion that I'll wait until it's actually finished and known Blues on here post pics and videos. It makes life less stressful.

Who, me? ;-)

I must admit, the sails aren't as bad as I thought they would be and look on the hotel as they looked close up on the mockup.

I wouldn't mind missing a yard of the corner flag if it means there are finally cheap safe standing season tickets available.

There must be many (such as those who often stand at the back of SSL3) who'd love an official safe standing seat but can't afford/don't want to pay the £700+ in SSL1. IIRC, 1894 had a plan for a big block of singers around blocks 114 and 115 when the away fans were moved, but when the £300 STs at the back of SSL3 were announced lost many who'd signed up for the section to them.

The more safe standing in NSL2 the better and I think the slightly restricted view whilst not ideal, is not a major issue. The rest of the view should be very similar to the back of SSL3, which is perfectly adequate given the very good value STs sold up there.

'Outrage' is a bit strong mate. But 3 goes at changing it (and that's just what we have seen) says those opinions at the time were not at all obscene. Particularly as most of the same posters seem to welcome the change, from what I have seen.

Speaking for myself, I did indeed from the day the mock-up appeared, note thst I expected them to change before they are on the building, and tried to push others to be open to the idea, which does happen more often than people realise.

Similarly there is no outrage at the wonky roof, just an observation at a point in time, and similar for the full walls windowless windows ;).

I am however somewhat outraged by the parapet to facade junctions! But I will save that for when the time is right, if at all.

Yea, a few changes later ;). Some not too disimilar to what has been collectively mooted here.

Plus, we did always note seeing it at scale and distance could be a bit of its saving grace.

Is someone keeping a log of things we've all complained about which we can then reconcile at the end of the build to see how many are justified 'concerns' (will the wonky roof get fixed, will the sails look shit, will the sight lines be compromised in the corners of NSL3 etc)?
Ha, someone start a spreadsheet!

I trust my memory for some of the key ones, that have been of interest to me at least.

But joking aside, I do think people have at times been way too sensitive to discussions and way too quick to cry 'complaint' at every opinion. Or get overly defensive over minor things that will likley never leave this thread.

Not saying there hasn't been any 'moaning', of course there has and some even OTT here and there. But some has been fair or at least harmless and worthwhile discussing imo.

In the same vein, a log of all the positives and things that excited people on the thread, would I think be a fair bit longer that the list of small temporary/permanent pet hates here and there.

I was near Bristol the other day and I passed a hotel with the same sails being use on the new city hotel but they were brown , so could of been worse ;-)

Don't think so, more like studs on the infil partitions and corridors. It is not entirely weatherproof yet either, and it still has over a year to go.

When they do get to it, plumbing work will be minimal, mostly connections of the pre made pods. Sparks will have a fair bit though.
Electrical and mechanical install has been ongoing for months now.

Thanks, good to hear. Yeah mechanical I would have assumed, and meant in the corridors. And to connect to ASHPs on already the roof. By sparks I took it to mean more to be the room elecs, are the partitions mostly framed then?

'A letdown' have a word with yourself. We've had to manipulate and redesign a bowl arena with a cable net roof, no easy feat. If you're in the corner of NSL3, are you watching the football or the 3rd tier of the East stand all game? You'll be able to see the majority of the stadium.

Do you think they haven't thought this all through when designing it? If there is actually a restricted view (of the pitch whilst sat down) in that new stand I'll apologise, and stand corrected.

You either get this abrupt finish on the corners, or you get the shit show of the south stand corners which they are now sorting (kind of). I know which I'd choose.

Well said. So much over reaction to one photo. Might be best to wait and see.

Yes.

Majority in corridors are on modules, lots of pods in place already.

Yeah you’re right. Still can’t get over the views from the top corners though! :-)

I think we know now why they specifically chose the end blocks to be safe standing.

It was so they could be sold off as a cheaper “obstructed view” option to the more rowdy fans who are just happy to have a regular space.

Could see both end blocks being mainly made up of season/flexi card holders.

It helps that the sails are 'high up' on the hotel. You can't see the joints. :-)
The sails also look a lot more slender.
I'll definitely post the pictures tonight.
You'll see.

It's all about opinions. Yours is a valid opinion.

As far as I'm concerned Pep deserves more than just a statue. We already have enough statues of players. That's not to say Pep shouldn't get a statue as well.

What Pep has done for this club surpasses anything any other manager has done for this club, that includes the great Joe Mercer. Pep's achievements and legacy as City's manager will never be matched or bettered by another City manager

It might only be me, but I think naming the new North stand home end after Pep is a fitting tribute to him and what he has achieved as City's greatest ever manager.

I can imagine him standing in front of the new North stand after he has taken his final and farewell walk around the pitch, looking up at the 1000's of City fans chanting his name, knowing the new North stand has been named after him.

I'm 100% sure the club will do the right thing to honor Pep Guardiola, City's greatest ever manager.

Back to topic for the last time before Jim temporarily bans me from posting on the thread. :-(
Pep does need to be suitably honoured for his amazing achievements. I wouldn’t agree (or indeed hope) that his achievements won’t be bettered though. City is more than the sum of the Pep years.

I still think once they have made the joint waterproof, they will cut away part of the overlapping old east stand roof . Thus bringing the corner into view

That's where the GA- seats should be located. :-(

GA+.
GA.
GA-( obstructed view)

Here's a really shit scenario of being stood there.

ilkay scores the 3rd goal against Villa, then runs over the corner celebrating.

"FFS, I can't see him and the players celebrating!"

3 complaints aren't bad considering the size and scale of the redevelopment of the North stand.

Also confirmed you won't be able to see a screen from this block making the decision not to have one in the SW corner even stranger.
