It's Quiet the £250m return

The table in the topic 2025-26 shows that we have a surplus of 5 for the PL squad https://forums.bluemoon-mcfc.co.uk/threads/2025-26-squad.369055/

Is the data incorrect? I skimmed through it, and it appears OK to me with the exception of the entry for Bernardo which is incomplete.
Thanks for spotting Bernardo - silly mistake but corrected now. Also taken the risk of moving Reis to the loan list before its officially announced, as it seems to be happening.

But yes we currently have 5 surplus for PL and whilst most of us assume we know the 5 who won't be in the PL squad the surplus of 9 for CL creates the more challenging problems.

I don’t understand the Kova decision. Bernardo will stay, and potentially Gundo. We’ve got Gonzalez + O’Reilly who has proven himself in recent times too and have added Reijnders, Bobb, Foden, Echeverri and Cherki. That’s a crowded enough midfield. Now would have been a great time to move on as his performances worsened over the course of this season. We’re just going to lose out on money by not selling now, and other players are going to have their game time sacrificed for him to play.

The football director should be making decisions primarily though? The squad needs trimmed but Stones, Ake, Akanji, Gundogan, Bernardo and Kovacic seemingly stay!?

Yes but we are not in danger of breaking any rules in respect to Echeverri and Reis. The squad rules (PL and CL) exempt u-21 players. We can only register 25 senior players in the PL which means that City will be forced sellers of players like Grealish, Phillips, Kabore, Wilson-Esbrand etc. If Echeverri and Reis are banging on the door demanding games, then fair enough but that seems unlikely to me. Echeverri played in the FA Cup Final and the CWC and Reis is also close to the first team. I think they will get games. We will miss them on a League Cup, FA Cup or CL night. I would rather sell Gundogan and Grealish. That opens space for Echeverri as a PL sub.
Agree...

Don't think you can get rid of too many at once though. The players might not want to leave also, and we may not get buyers for them.

Several outlets reporting that we've included a mid-season break clause in Reis loan contract to Girona, to cover us in the case of injury presumably to Stones, Aké & Akanji, which suggests they're all staying.

This report states an "immediate return", but surely he can't be registered before January?
I can’t. They stay but apparently the board themselves ain’t sure if they even stay injury free. We going to get him back for 2-3 weeks and then when the uncs are back he gonna join the bench again. Hopefully this year flies past me they get their chance

Wishing the season away before it starts, some kind of so called fan you are.

It’s across French media mate, they have gone in with a €100m offer? They are wanting Isak still as well
Well they’ll struggle to fit them all in if they get them. Can you get Salah Wirtz Ekitike Isaak and Barcola in the same side as well as Gakpo? There’d be a lot of unhappy players

Bernardo still has something to offer.

As soon as Kova was injured/had the operation then he was always going nowhere

Gundo I would have let go.

Despite our financial power we have most of the time been restrained in the transfer market. We have spent lots, but well.....others have a more scatter gun approach.

I do wonder if its the optics of spending that keeps us slightly restrained at times.

This doesn't seem as much a scatter gun approach as opposed to an arms race.

I think we have played it safe this summer, but I would like to see us be more aggresive and maybe even move some players like Gundo, Kova, Bernardo (If a massive offer comes in from Saudi) and begin to build the next iteration of the team.

I don’t think we should get rid of all three in this window, that’s a lot of experience gone if we do.

Rumours that rags are after Baleba and Liverpool are after Barcola.....

They are definitely ramping things up (especially scousers) if true
