Yeh I think you might be talking my analogy a bit too literal there mate lol. Obviously I’m not saying Jack is in the same class as Merlin. Just making the point that stats can be deceptive. Look at the Van Dyke ‘never being dribbled past’ stat. And yes, my eyes aren’t what they were thank you very much ;)
Yeah it was 4.40 when I posted that so I was half asleep.::-)

That's not how it works. Using a player as an example of someone that has crap stats but was a good player isn't directly comparing Grealish and Scholes. If you can't understand that we can stop the conversation here mate.

Have you replied to the person that mentioned David Silva yet?
I know you say you sre not comparing them and that's fine. But David Silva had 194 GA in 436 games for City. Jack had 24 in 95 games.

One has a 44% production rate the other is at 25%. They are not in the same stratosphere. Silva is a great both in reality and on paper. Jack is not.

It seems in the end Jack's highest level was what he had at Villa. He simply couldn't step up once the level went up.

We paid like we were getting a phenom who was a potential superstar in a smaller pond, but his performance suggests he was simply a very good player in a smaller pond who became a role player in a bigger bond.

No biggie. It happens. We keep stepping

Just for clarity as I see this post has caused a few unnecessary arguments. I wasn’t comparing Merling to Jack. I was actually saying Merlin was an even better player than his stats suggested. Trying to prove a point that stats are deceiving. For example, you don’t see stats flashed up on Sly Sports when a player makes runs to make space for other players to run through and score- one of the most important skills in football. Jack went through a period when he was brilliant at this and also keeping possession, allowing us to keep control and shape. I honestly believe if we are going to play more attacking, higher risk and high paced football as the CWC suggested - with the new assistant coach in place - then Jack could thrive again as a squad player. His popularity within the team is also important. Again - there’s no stat for the importance of this to the dressing room.Imagine being Haaland and losing 2 best mates in Kev and Jack all in one go. It has to affect your mind set in some way. But I also understand that realistically he’s probably going to move on and that being seen out hammered on numerous occasions doesn’t look good to his critics
1. Haaland can bscome beatayes with Phil and Cherki. Besides borh Kev and Jack are a phone call away. :)

This is the bit I struggle with.
His PL record at Villa was P 96 GS 15.
In the Championship it was P 89 GS 14.

In the PL at City he’s P 61 GS 8.

Now, considering he almost always played 90 minutes for Villa and rarely played 90 minutes for City, his record isn’t any different, so I’m still not sure what people were expecting of him.

Still blows my mind that people are seemingly annoyed at Grealish's output like he was on 30g+a at Villa when we signed him.

Right or wrong, we wasn't buying him because we needed goals.
I think we bought him aa a creator. So goals or assists. Lots of them. He waa giving us DM level production. That doesn't work long term.

But he hasn't lived up to expectations. If we were told, four years ago when he signed, that this is how he'd be leaving; unceremoniously and his career in the gutter, none of us would be happy. Let's not be disingenuous about this.
