Will we win the league this season?

I had a friend who I regularly rambled with (sadly no longer with us), he had a thing about the use of the apostrophe.

He was so fanatical that I offered to buy him a couple of marker pens, a black one to add an apostophe where it was missing and a white one to blank out wrongly placed ones.

We had a bloody good laugh about it.
He would have had fun with my username!

Note that Liverpool's senior forward line is Salah, Ekitike, Nunez and Gakpo and the ACON runs for a month in Dec 2025, Jan 2026.

What are Liverpool going to do if they don't sign Isak? They obviously need another forward. Perhaps they are going to rely on their academy.

City fans focus on our own problems but our rivals are not anywhere near as strong as City 2022.

Not sure why you mention AFCON as an issue for them, then mention a Frenchman, a Uruguayan and a Dutchman, along with Salah?

Are you just saying those guys aren't that great? I'd probably agree with you. Though now it looks like Nunez will go, which could lead to Isak joining.

There isn't just them as options for them though - I wouldn't be surprised if Wirtz plays as one of the front 3, then they also have Harvey Elliott, who usually looks good when he gets a chance.

All that said, I'm starting to think this is them having a rebuild and we're 6 months ahead of them in that regard. Not particularly worried about them, they're having to change a winning team and that doesn't always work out successfully.

Not sure about positions, but I could see us getting around 85 points this season. Some seasons that's enough for the title, probably 3rd at lowest.

Liverpool have signed pretty well and if they get Isak, that'll make them strong going forwards. Their defence doesn't look amazing, plus they've a few outgoings (Elliot and Nunez probably before the deadline), but i'd have them as favs this year.

Chelsea are, once again, an unknown quantity. The Club World Cup was a little misleading due to its end of season nature but they did look to have a bold attacking philosophy. Again saddled with a huge squad (that they're going to keep adding to!!) they really could be a dangerous team or a bit of a confused rabble. Unsure.

Arsenal will struggle, that's my bold prediction. Arteta has converted them into a better team than the 2017-22 era, without doubt, but i get a sense three 2nd places has knocked them a bit, and Gyokeres wont be all that.

Newcastle will either stagnate or drop away a touch, they dont seem to be able to get signings over the line and i'd be surprised if they are as good as last year, 6th to 8th. United are definitely a better team with Cunha and Mbuemo in it, but surely they're no better than 6th? Spurs and others can all jog on.

And us. We're the biggest unknown in the league, in my opinion. With a raft of signings in 2025, many of which could be in and around the first XI, plus the come back of Rodri and Stones, plus the hoped return to form of Foden plus the hope/expectation Doku kicks on.... we're looking at a much changed team. The defence isn't particularly overhauled, and will the midfield shore up? or are we just going to try and outscore folks and hope for the best? I personally dont see us winning it, but we surely need to be in the conversation for as long as we can. Us and Chelsea to battle for 2nd.

With everyone fit and firing we have as good a chance as any. A great starting 11 and a pick of 9 from ? from a strong bench.

Trafford
Nunes
Stones
Guardiol
Ait-Nouri
Rodri
Reijnders
B Silva (Capt)
Cherki
Doku
Haaland

Subs
Ederson/Ortega/Bottinelli
Ake/Akanji
Dias/Khus
O'Reilly/Lewis
Gundo/Nico/Kova
Foden/McAtee
Marmoush/Echeverri
Bobb
Savinho/Grealish

A few will obviously not be on that list but its still strong

If I knew the answer to that I’d put a huge bet on.

My guess is it will between City Arsenal and Liverpool (not a surprise) If I had a guess it will be close until the end (unlike last season) but Liverpool will edge it from us with Arsenal in third. Then there will be a sizeable gap to the rest which will be topped by Chelsea.

I don’t see the table finishing much different next season than last but I expect United to finish top 8 and Forest to be bottom half which will be the major differences.

The interesting point around Liverpool is they looked very stale for a number of games at the end of the season, 3 wins in 8 and 2 of those were a tad flaky. But i think that was partly due to no concerted challenge on them.

Definitely that but we finished stronger than any team and that’s usually a good sign.

Although I obviously want us to win the league I doubt we will because we need all the signings since January to fully settle and gel with the squad and I can't see that happening. Probably have a better chance the season after next.

The main thing I'm hoping for is watching us play fast exciting football again. It's been a while since we did.

No. Wingers aren't good enough and no right back. Needed to get rid of some serious deadwood which we've not managed at all.

Everyone else has massively improved. Hell, even the rags have improved massively by blowing mind blowing money on a new starting 11.

Think we finish 4th. Scousers will win it.

Nobody has improved more than we have though, liverpool may have matched it, maybe not.

Absolute joke the amount of pathetic, negative fans we have in our fan base. Obviously we didn't have the best year last year, but you can't expect us to win every trophy every year all the time! No team has ever won 4 titles in a row, we did it. And fans are moaning about us not getting 5. These idiotic fans saying we haven't strengthened when we've brought in the best Serie A midfielder, a tricky French winger/10, a top top goalkeeper and some backups too.

Sometimes I wonder whether the treble season led to false expectations from our fans, everyone seems to always be having a moan, do you think players can perform to the highest standards if the fans are moaning because we might not win the lot again and again.

We have had one of the best windows we've ever had, and who knows maybe Nunes or Lewis can put a shift in at RB, or maybe even the return of the inverting John Stones! No wingers good enough? We've brought in one of the best players in the Bundesliga in Marmoush and don't forget Foden was the best player in the league in 2024. (A year ago), one off season he's had and he's said himself he had problems outside of the game. Our players aren't robots, and the fans should stop moaning all the time and get behind the team with a positive and exciting attitude.

They need another forward as they are short on numbers, and that is exacerbated by the loss of Salah during the ACON.

I personally think people (media, pundits etc) are underestimating us because of the awful period from last season. There were many reasons for that 10-11 game period which we lost 8 of our 9 games. From that period we didn't lose from February (from memory) we kept 9 clean sheets from 13 games (top of head). If we had only lost half the games from that awful period we would have at least finished a comfortable 2nd and probably be within 6 pts off Liverpool.
We could all see there was a tactical shift, one to accommodate injuries, two to work out ways to play against low blocks differently. I think we were getting there. It reminds me of the back end of peps first season.
Im optimistic and believe we will at least push Liverpool close or win.

Man Utd has always impersonated Bert.

A few years ago, City played at a very high level in most matches. We've dropped off from that. To recapture our former level requires the return of Stones and Rodri at their best, and we can't predict that. We can hope for it.

Have you ever had a positive thought when it comes to City?

The media and all it's City hating snakes have the dippers to win at a Canter and we'll be lucky to get 3rd. That fuckin suits me! Pile all the pressure on them by all means and go against the greatest manager of all time at your peril. Pep won't want to go 2 seasons without that crown and I trust that he's already got his plan in place to recapture that title. I'm quietly confident, but buy a decent right back and I'll be very noisily confident. C'MON CITY!!!
