Savinho | City reject Spurs approach

It’s a very strange move for Savinho though — you’d have thought he’d rather have tried to fight for his place here above all else.
It’s a World Cup year, will start every week there.

Clearly not as valued by City as we thought and with Bobb and Cherki the game time is getting even lower.

Graeme Bailey said this on some City podcast a few days back...

At the right price I would do it. We have Foden, Cherki, and Bobb who can play there and the combo of Savinho and Doku didn't work, and I am still not sold on Marmoush on the left.

I think if Bobb didn't break his leg last year, Savinho would have struggled to get a game.

Bobb looked like he had that sharpness back again last night, probably done enough in training for City to consider this.
Yeah you’ve got to trust Pep here let’s be honest.

I’d want at least £60m for him. We do need to go back in the market I’d feel. Wasn’t the player I was expecting to go. Bobb is better though but we cannot go into a season with Bobb and Doku as our only recognised wingers with their injury records it will be like the CB situation all over again.

Yep had a feeling this would happen (not to Spurs or a PL club though) as I think we rate Echeverri ahead of him and need to make room for him!

It is what it is.. like the kid but foreign spots are limited!

Only shown in fits and starts for my money - lack of physical attributes is a problem also - shooting and finishing poor . No great loss at all in my opinion - Take the money and invest it in a right back

I did notice at the back end of last season he was left out the squad with Reis, McAtee etc. He’s not one of the favourites. I don’t have a lot of recollection of Pep praising him a lot in the press other than when he said he was physically fitter than Grealish. I suppose you’ve got to think if we want to win titles we could cash in on him now and go for a proven output winger in a Barcola/Rodrygo.

I think Bobb's ceiling is higher and his output is better. I also think we need a winger on the scoresheet more often.
Based on what? Both have 3 goals but Savinho’s got a good season at Girona behind him, being their best player as they finished 3rd. Also, as mentioned before, our top assister last season.
Would be a ridiculous sale, our top assister last season, 19 goals and assists in la liga the season before. Could easily be the best winger in the league in 5 years.

To lose all of Palmer, Alvarez and Savinho would be criminal
If he can learn to shoot, he’s a £100mil player. Very reminiscent of Sterling. Last season was a bad season, but if we’re fit and firing I can see him doing the business.

Not sure we will play with wingers that often , width may come from full backs

It’s a baffling decision. If there are players who should be first out the door, it’s Gundogan and Akanji - not Savinho. Pep seems reluctant to admit that Gundo and Akanji have become surplus to the requirements at this football club. Sentimentality and sympathy will get us nowhere, and hasn't post treble. Handing Bernardo the captain’s armband while entertaining the idea of selling Savinho feels like a step backwards, not forwards. I hope we replace Savinho with Rodrygo, or can use Savinho sale to bring a top quality right back in.

Going in with Bobb and Doku as our wingers considering their injury records is crazy.
What do we do though, if we've had a healthy sum offered for Savinho and no-one has made a bid for Gundogan and Akanji, who are both under contract? We can't just get rid of players unless there's a willingness from the player to leave, and an offer on the table. Maybe Savinho fancies the move, in which case let him go if the money is good.

Going with Bobb and Doku as our wingers isn't as bad as you make it sound when we've also got Marmoush, Foden, Bernardo who can play wide. Maybe even Cherki too. There's 5 (possibly six) players for two positions in the front 3. Does this also provide an opening for Mukasa, who is only 17 but could now start to be integrated into the squad?

I'd expect our real width is going to come from our full backs, so we don't need orthodox wingers either side of the front 3, rather than relying on "forwards" like Marmoush and Bobb with overlapping full backs.

He was the third equal top assister in the league last season despite it being his first season and him not playing every game. Wayward finisher but that’s a decent start
The irony is he can't replicate a 2% conversion rate if he tried. It is statistically unlikely to be so unlucky even if you're not a great finisher.

A little reversion to the mean and he gets 5 goals off the 50 shots he takes and all of a sudden this thread is about how great he is.

Output not solely being stats but Bobb is better technically, beats a man easier, fits the system better.

value of the player…50m? Would be more pissed off if they were after Bobb. Cherki / Bobb / Foden over Savio. Just not consistent enough.
