Savinho | City reject Spurs approach

World Cup year, probably wants to play his favoured left wing (no chance here with Doku and Marmoush), he’s not a guaranteed starter at City, and we’ve just brought in Cherki, Echeverri and Bobb has returned so his competition is stiff on the right.

Bingo

I think Pep is planning on playing with the fullbacks wide, and then utilising the 3 behind Big Erl as being players like Foden, Cherki, Marmoush etc who will all stay closer to the box than out wide.

Whilst of course having the likes of Doku and Bobb, who are both too capable of being that bit closer as well as wide.

I don’t think I can put up with Bernardo playing RW for another season. I know he didn’t play there much last season but it’s still an option that shouldn’t be an option.
Don't think he will as such, but would be good playing right midfeild if we play Nunes as an overlapping right back, he' knows enough to sit in and cover that gap.

I think 50m represents good business.

I do still think he might develop into a really good player, and he can be fun to watch, but the harsh reality is, at the moment he’s not at the required level, and we don’t have enough good wide option to take the gamble he improves.

I’m assuming we have someone lined up, otherwise selling him would be bonkers.

Rodrygo league form isn't a upgrade, but his champions league form is, didn't realise how much of big game player he is. Scored against us , Atletico , Chelsea ,Bayern.and Liverpool. Also in Spain he's scored a total of 15 goals in all comps against Barca. So he is the definition of a big game player.

32 goal involvements in 52 games in the champions league.

If Savinho did go and we went for Rodrygo he's not really a downgrade.

I don’t think the discussion has ever been whether Rodrygo is a downgrade on Savinho. It is more of an issue of whether he would be the right person to replace him.

We won’t be spending the amount Rodrygo would cost in wages and a transfer fee for him to just compete with Oscar Bobb. We sign him and he’s walking into the RW position and Bobb is firmly playing second fiddle to him.

The question is whether he is good enough for that scenario.

If Savinho goes, I just don’t see anyone coming to replace him. Would be a move driven by numbers, and not the financial kind, and one that would leave us short of genuine wide players. For all their talents, Foden, Bobb, Cherki, and Echeverri are not wide players. They may be put out there but they’re all better in the middle, which is where their futures lie. He’s going to find himself the unfortunate victim of our squad ‘planning’.

I don’t think the reaction to this transfer or any other is unprecented or uncalled for.

We are in the period of revamping of the squad - meaning old players giving way for top young players bought for big fees.

We have not send any of the oldies packing ( Not easy I understand but people deciding this are paid millions - they ought to figure out the tough parts of business)

On the other hand we have seen Reis move to Girona , Ezee linked to Roma and another young player in Savio to be sold to that lot who did conspired against us.

For me it’s the same as Newcastle fans feels with Isak - don’t sell to those cunts and if you do just rinse them for every penny they got.

Agree Rodrygo cost 80m and 300k a week no thanks his output is not worth that!
I agree with this.

He’s better than Sav, that’s fair, but no way is he worth that kind of cash.

He’s the same as the wingers we have now, great highlights reel, but a lot of his moves come to very little.

Can we please stop talking about taking some of Spurs shite in exchange? Spence, Gray? Nowhere near our level and a sure-fire way of us being in a battle for top 4 instead of a title challenge.

I'm not so comfortable with this, unless we have a replacement lined up. I'm thinking Rodrigo or Leao. Whilst I think Bobb is a future star in that position, I'm not as sure Cherki or Doku can do it on the right for us. But if Pep sees Foden and Bernie out there too, then it could happen.

The fee reported seems low. It could well be that Savinho is one of those players who never quite find the final ball, and thus never quite make it, but given his age and potential I think that we should be looking for more. Spurs obviously have the money, levy is a known knob towards us, and so pay up or sit back down.

We went in for him and he wanted £400k a week by all accounts!

Nah we didn’t paper talk social media talk! Man city be looking at getting the annual wage down I’ll expect with the new psr rules coming in! Yep we absolutely fine now long term better to keep it around 60/65% of wage turnover

A no from me give the boy a chance, Foden was dog sh t last season, does that mean sell him. This guy has so much potential, also heard the same people saying get rid of doku, let's enhance every team in the PL

not reached the heights yet but his potential is there for all to see, one season in not the right one to sell. we could have another palmer situation and improving another rival dramatically. unless £75 mill or more then a hard no from me

Agree with spence but Archie Everytime I’ve watched him he looks accomplished player who can player in a lot of positions
