UEFA demote Palace to the Conference League (pg11) | Forest promoted to the Europa League

I haven't followed all of the intracites of this... but for me... Palace have been screwed.
Cas said: “After considering the evidence, the panel found that John Textor, founder of Eagle Football Holdings, had shares in CPFC and OL and was a Board member with decisive influence over both clubs at the time of Uefa’s assessment date. The panel also dismissed the argument by CPFC that they received unfair treatment in comparison to Nottingham Forest and OL. The panel considered that the Uefa regulations are clear and do not provide flexibility to clubs that are non-compliant on the assessment date, as CPFC claimed.”

I mean it's pretty clear.

Why?

Texor had to sell his shares by 1st March as he part owns Lyon. He didn't and Uefa deemed they broke the rules and CAS have agreed with Uefa.

The amount of utter balloons on social media giving it the old "City and Girona did it, different rules for different teams" bollocks.

He literally went on TalkSport and talked about how involved he was in the day-to-day running of the clubs he owns.

As always, the issue is the stupid rule and it's poorly thought through implementation, but if you're judging it on purely whether they broke the rules, then it's hard to argue that they didn't. It's another example though of results being decided off the pitch rather than on it. That team qualified for the Europa League and they're not allowed to play in it because of some accounting bullshit.

They were never going to win the appeal, the rules were simple and the owner ignored them.

They're a PL club and should have anticipated they could have ended up in Europe. Especially when 8-10 PL clubs can get there these days.

They absolutely haven’t. The assessment date was 1 March for the following season. At that date John Testor owned shares and was a controlling director at Palace and Lyon. It was three months later that he disposed of the shares in Palace. It is clear cut. The Forest owner put his shares in a trust in February to satisfy the same condition. Palace simply screwed up.
