Jack Grealish | Set to join Everton on season-long loan

I for one hope he has a wow of a season at Everton. Jack is a very decent human being that did very well for us at times, got unfortunate with an injury that took a long time to go away and never found a fixed place in the side after. Seemed to support his team mates when on the bench and was so comfortable with fan interaction off the pitch.

Who knows what happens in 12 months but a decent solution for all parties - perhaps his value of 35-50m will be more certain if he does very well.

All the best you drunken nutter, go well.

Very odd take
Is it?

Look, people will have their own opinions on whether Jack has been a success here and worth the money we paid. The opinions will largely be based on what the team won during that period, rather than his own form. What I find an odd take, is this idea that signing someone for £100m and then sending him on loan to Everton 4 years later, is somehow a sign that everything went great and just as planned.

I think the are are a few who don’t understand a players’ role under pep and in this squad. The price wasn’t anyone’s fault but Villa’s and the powers that be at ours saw in enough in him to take that hit.

What we’ve won since he has had a say in, and therefore he has been a success.
Well clearly Pep is one of them because he’s the one who has sanctioned the loan. You’ve effectively said, Pep wanted Jack to play a certain way. Jack played the role exactly as wanted and Pep has shipped him out anyway. It doesn’t add up does it?

Tbf we probably are, we have the highest wage bill in the league again.
Not seen a recent list but I wouldn't dispute that. We're not paying unrivaled numbers though, the other big sides pay similar amounts
If he has a fucking stormer of a season they may well be happy to stick the money down.
Lets say he does and he decides he wants to stay there, why would they offer £50m when they can just offer the same loan deal again which we wont be in any position to reject at that point and just wait 12 months to get him for free?

If they're not willing to pay or at least commit to paying in the future, now, they're not going to suddenly change that stance in 12 months time when we have practically no bargaining power.

What we paid for him is irrelevant, what 'isnt normal' as you put it is what we won during his time here unprecedented.
Things change non of us know the truth about what has happened but it doesn't take Einstein to figure that out . So rather than have a bench warmer on 300k a week hes being moved on .. good move if you ask me most definitely not a sorry state of affairs.
Good luck Jack I hope you find yourself again as a footballer and thanks for the memories

I'll miss Jack around the place but I don't think he's hungry for it any more. Hope he does well at Everton but it will surprise me. They'll get on his back quickly if he doesn't hit the ground running.

I think Pep got more pissed off with him never being available more than what he did on the pitch. He wouldn't have put him in the team out of nowhere for Madrid away and the Semi Final if he didn't rate him.

so did we get any loan fee or do they just pay large % of his salary?
the 50m option is a joke, would have preferred 15-20m mandatory option at that point. no reason for Everton to activate it at 50m.

I dont agree with this correlation with the trophies we've won during his time here automatically rendering him a success. If we apply that logic to Grealish, We also have to apply it to everybody who stepped foot on the pitch during that time which would then suggest we've not made a single questionable transfer decision in 4 years prior to last.

Kalvin Phillips is a treble winner too. Obviously im not for a second comparing their contributions to that but if even 1 minute of his contribution to that treble was crucial, you can't really argue against us dropping £40m on him either despite the inarguable fact that hes been a disaster.

Grealish has undoubtedly had a successful spell with us, I'll always look fondly on every single member of the treble squad for allowing me to be in Istanbul to see that moment but hes not been a success here.

When you break your transfer record, by some distance, to sign somebody, the expectation is not for him to end up out on loan before the end of his initial contract because he can't get in the side. Is it his fault we spent that money on him? Of course not, but we did it and the fee does matter because it represents the expectations we have regarding their importance.

Look away from City for a different perspective. Would we accept the dippers saying Nunez has ultimately been a success because they won the league last year? I dont think anybody here would agree with that but would the dippers be happy to drop £80m for a title? Without question.

Let’s hope he has one hell of a season, scoring and creating goals against all our key rivals, so much so that Everton are begging to sign him for £50m next summer?

I too agree that he seems to be a top bloke, and if you could choose one player from our squad to go out on the lash with, he'd be top of the list.

I had high hopes, but like other posters have said, he wasn't instrumental in out successes, just a part of them. He's no Kev or Rodders, but then nobody is.

Ultimately, I think he's only 80-85% of the player we hoped he would be, and like Savinho, someone who could/should have hit the onion bag far more over his time at City.

If he were a bit younger then I'd have reasonable expectations for a return once he's done his year at Everton, but to me he's been good at CIty, not great, and that huge transfer fee was perhaps a millstone that he could have done without.
