Savinho | City reject Spurs approach

Will he play every game? Won’t he be fighting for a place against Kulusevski, Kudos and Brennan Johnson on the right and Tel/Richarlison on the left.
As soon as they realise how shit he is there’ll be little hope he’ll be picked for every game

Okay, take away the two players. You said we have a 'side of 30+ year olds'. It is nonsense, and I named them. Get a grip.
I'll take my confirmations from the OS, rather than the odd Twitter troll thanks.
Ederson, Stones, Ake, Akanji, Bernardo and Gundo are all the wrong side of 30.

Dias and Rodri, fast approaching.

How many of those do you think are starting?

The poster actually said ‘you can’t rebuild with a side of 30+ year olds’.

And what results did we get with the old guard last season, that I guarantee will still get loads of minutes this season?

We’re well under PSR and all other financial metrics, we don’t need the £50m. Espically when there’s only £30m profit.

Gundogan and Bernardo had to play 50+ games last season because the squad situation and injuries fucked us. We've signed Reijnders, Cherki and pretty much have Rodri back, it'll be different this season.

They'll do 1 more year and then retire somewhere nice.

It's funny though because when we were desperate for points at the end of the season it was those players bailing us out. Gundogan won us the game at Fulham (A) to seal Champions League football.

It's not football manager, can't have a team full of 21 year olds with potential to fulfil. People keep saying Mahrez at 21 was in the 4th tier of French football, he was and that's why we didn't sign him until he was 26/27. We can have a few young players we're waiting on to develop, can't have a full squad though.

Starting what? Some games, every game?
We won't know who is here until the end of the window.

If they are here, all of them will play some games.
There is no problem with that.
We need youth and experience in the team and we have that.

But the transfers from the previous season put us in that position.

Ray Charles could see at the start of the season that Rodri needed backup - it was impossible for him to have another 60 game season.

Gundo played well at the end of the season, but was awful for about 75% of the other games that season - that put us in that situation.

There’s no way he should be sold before any of the players mentioned. You can’t rebuild with a side of 30+ year olds.
You can't rebuild the whole squad in 1 or 2 windows. It has to be done gradually due to player contracts and experience.

The players currently aged 30+ will all leave over the next couple of windows IMO. I'm sure we would have sold 2 or 3 of them already if there had been any takers but wages and, in some cases, injury records have made that currently difficult/impossible.

Next season Reis and Bah will return from loan, with a season more experience under their belts, to hopefully replace the likes of Stones/Ale/Akanji and we'll also be replacing Gundogan and Kovacic within the next 12 months. At that stage the rebuild will be pretty much complete.

Nobody said we did. My inference from what was said was that the rebuild should come at the sacrifice of those who have served us well not at the sacrifice of those who could serve us well.

Alas, the club has got itself into a bind of its own making.

Last season is done.
New players. New staff. New start.

You know full well how many of those mentioned will play when fit.

That slow lethargic football from last season was a result of old tired legs. The same old tired legs that are being kept around while a 21/22 year old is being sold.

You cannot rebuild with a side of 30+ year olds implies that is what we have. We do not. We have some older players but the majority are young, and extreme talents.

You may wish for all of the older players to be moved on to make space for the younger ones. I suspect we are in the midst of that process, hence the sale of KDB and the loan of Grealish, but to expect it with such instancy is, IMO, unrealistic.

I disagree with you.
There is no sale, as yet.
We have a list of young, talented footballers throughout the squad.
I think you listed five or 6 out of a squad of more than twenty.
I will take that, and I don't believe that they will play every game.
Last season was injury and illness ravaged, and it is done...over...gone.
I look forward to the next with absolute relish.

Ake, Akanji, and Kovacic are all contracted through to the summer of 2027, and if players are allowed to sit tight and see their contracts out this season, then one would expect them to demand the same level of respect for their situations.

No issue with us selling him, my issue is he should be 8th or 9th in the pecking order.

We’re meant to be in the process of a rebuild, yet we’re letting 21/22 year olds leave whilst keeping the old guard around.

Akanji, Bernardo, Gundo, Kovacic and Ortega stand out players that need shifting before him.
No one wants them!!

Some may decide to move on before their contracts are up but if it means having a couple of 'old heads' around, that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Been saying this for a while. The balance is off. We have a load of young “promising” players and a significant old guard contingent. But not enough inbetween!!

There's no coming back for him now . Pep will done with him . Id guess in Peps whole career he has never played a 20 year old as much as he did with Savinho. 3,000 minutes last year .
And he repays that faith by wanting to leave for Spurs for no reason whatsoever. He's been so badly advised by his entourage.
