Can you honestly take a holier than thou stance and say you have complied with every law every drafted by every politician. He who has never sinned may cast the first stone and all that. That's probably the daftest thing I've read on here today.
Just out of interest, with you saying you love a beer, do you breathalyse yourself before driving.Zero tolerance.
I love a beer and I drive but no drinking and driving at all for my money.
I don’t know if you have been to Wales recently. I am fortunate enough to have a car that constantly updates the speed on a particular road. The frustration is most cars don’t and the amount of cars that tailgate the car in front that doesn’t realise the speed on that particular stretch is not 20 mph. The most amusing thing is as soon as you leave the road on to a car park the limit increases to either 30 /40 mph. Crazy.
That's probably the daftest thing I've read on here today.
They are having to have a rethink on the hair brain scheme. Who ever thought it out has suddenly realised it’s not exactly a vote winner. There is talk of it being left to local authorities where it will apply. That’s not going to cause any confusion is it.Ha don't get me started on that as well. Just come back from Wales and the all encompassing 20mph speed limits are OTT in many cases.
It should be on a case by case basis. Like for example at beautiful Tintern with it's semi narrow roads and lots of tourists mingling about I agree with the 20mph. It feels right.
But when you go through a village that's got a road wide enough for two HGVs and was probably one of the main roads between Newport and Cardiff before the M4 then it just feels ridiculous having to go so slow.
So I can understand why people get confused because it's not the obviously dangerous roads that are 20mph.
One little benefit I have noticed with the 20mph zones though is that it makes for a very easy overtake as you come out of the 20mph. Your average car can do a 20 to 40mph dash noticeably faster than say a 30 to 50mph speed increase. With the lower speeds the amount of road required to overtake is also reduced so it's a safer overtake.
The key thing is with having a drink and driving is that it's also other people's lives you risk. Not everyone wants a zero risk life. Some people are prepared for a little flexibility to improve their life.
There's got to be some irony in it being a local, but having to drive to have a couple of pints. There is going to be a discussion to reduce the drink drive limit from 0.08 to 0.05 to bring it in line with Scotland. Personally I like popping down to the Local now and again to have 2 pints before tea so not in favour. It may end up the final nail in the coffin particularly for country pubs
UberAhh, right. I live in the countryside. Do you know of any websites I can nominate a designated driver when wifey says, why don’t you pop out for a swift half whilst I prepare your tea dear.
It’s hard to believe this point needed to be made. The key thing is with having a drink and driving is that it's also other people's lives you risk.
Most peoples lives would improve dramatically if they stopped drinking. Not everyone wants a zero risk life. Some people are prepared for a little flexibility to improve their life.
You cant equate having the hump about speed limits with the issue of drinking and driving home, Shirley?Ha don't get me started on that as well. Just come back from Wales and the all encompassing 20mph speed limits are OTT in many cases.

You mean the following day?Just out of interest, with you saying you love a beer, do you breathalyse yourself before driving.
Why don't they want to see them reduced?I'm not advocating drinking and driving over the current limits.
I'm advocating a compromise between the shall do no wrong crowd and the people who are happy with the current limits and don't want to see them reduced.
Drink driving is an awful crime, we should have zero alcohol as the limit for driving. That would simplify "Am I over or not?" debates. Also several countries already have zero as their limit.
