UEFA demote Palace to the Conference League (pg11) | Forest promoted to the Europa League

In what way did they not follow the rules like City and Girona did.
I think even the rags followed rules last season
They did the same as what we did. The difference is, both us and Girona had confirmed CL football well in advance of the deadline so as soon as it was confirmed, we made the neccesary changes to ownership to comply.

Palace and Lyon both didnt know they had secured Europa league football until after the deadline had passed which for some unknown ridiculous reason was before the season had finished.

Lyon only made the europa league on the last day of the season due to PSG winning the cup which bumped them up from a confernece league place, they didnt qualify for it themselves, and obviously Palace got it against us against the odds.

I think its harsh to expect an owner to sell his shares in one club before the deadline on what was a remote possibility of the two clubs qualifying for the same competition.

CAS were never going to overturn this, their argument was always that the rules are a farce, which they absolutely are, but that doesnt matter. Those are the rules and CAS simply ensures that the rules are followed.

Palace can't have had any real expectations of anything other than this outcome.

Expect the rules to be changed imminently to avoid this happening again. Ridiculous that the deadline for compliance is before the end of the season and therefore before you would know whether you're about to breach the rules.
Surely there has to be some cut off point before the end of the season, otherwise teams could do what Robert Maxwell did with Dean Saunders.

With Lyon being in such financial dire straits, there would have been nothing stopping Textor selling Lyon best players on the cheap to Palace

He didnt have to sell them, just put them in a blind trust

You could argue, that it's palace who should qualify, as they actually won something.

Indeed, im sure of it was left for them to decide, that would be a heated debate but i think the rules dictate it's the highest league position that takes precedence, so even though Lyon didnt qualify themselves, their league position was higher than Palace so it goes to them.

True. But it was such an unlikely event before the deadline that it's entirely reasonable not to feel the need.

I dont know what the thing is that you're referring to, way before my time I think.

Why does there need to be a cut off before the end of the season?the rule isnt really there to prevent that from happening, it's to stop teams under yhe same ownership from playing one another to avoid any suggestion of match fixing and to prevent any suggestion of team collusion. If they wanted to sell their best players to palace they could have just agreed to it before the deadline.

He didn't want to put them into a blind trust because he was trying to sell the club - which he subsequently did - and would lose control of the sale.

Its ridiculous that he doesn't even own the club anymore and so there wasn't any conflict with another owned club once they attained the qualification into Europe.

I didnt think putting the shares in a blind would hinder him from selling them. He could quite easily had his lawyers be the executor of the blind trust. Parish saying they didnt receive emails from Uefa, so
It sounds like he fucked up & is using that as excuse

Just let them play in the Europa. They will get knocked out, soon as they meet a decent side, from Latvia, it is not like they are going to play shitters like Liverpool and City!

So lack of ambition cost them.
They should have sorted the problem out before they qualified for any European compitition they had a chance of playing in.
They knew at the semi final stage there would be a good chance of getting in Europe.Sort it out then.

They played the semi final at the end of April, the deadline was 1st March.

For context, we played our 5th round tie on the 1st of March. So they'd have to have done it during the 4th round, was there a good chance of them getting Europe at that point?
