Gianluigi Donnarumma | Done deal according to Romano

Pep's philosophy doesn't exclude the option that if generational talent is available - club shouldn't go for it.

Let's take Haaaland's example. Is he typical False9 ? Nope.. but he is the best CF in world football and therefore, for such unique players you have to make exceptions.

Same applies to Donnarumma. He is the best GK and if not him, most probably Arsenal would have won the Champions League. I watched that game and really wanted PSG to go through, but they were lucky...

So for such keeper you can make exception and forget about ball delivery as he will make those important saves.

Football is about balance. if you have best players on each position, then you don't need universal ones, because necessity of such universal players arrives when you need to cover the weaknesses.

Like.. you need more possession because you are not solid in defence and less shoots mean less goals, but if you have best GK, then you can relax and let opponents shoot.

Why Real Madrid was relaxed about possession against us ? because they had Courtois and he was making a lot of saves.

Trafford if a deal is done it’ll be to late for Donnarumma to start I’d put him on the bench. If a deal is not done yet but close Ederson won’t be interested and we wouldn’t risk an injury

Not a criticism of your post but it makes me nervous - We put in a keeper who the last time he played at this level was dropped by Burnley(Burnley!!) With him knowing that the next game he’s on the bench anyway - I’m not sure that really works to inspire confidence in him and/or those around him

If Donnarumma is here, play him. If not 1) he should be but 2) tell Eddie and Galatasaray no deal unless it’s done by Thursday. Everyone has had long enough now, why should City be wearing all the risk??

I mean, for sure we can't go into the season with Ortega and Trafford as our keepers.

Donnarumma feels a bit weird though, like a strange fit? Almost like Haaland, someone so good you have to sign them if they become available, even if they don't really suit the way you play.
Haaland suited us mate! that's why we won the Treble!

We were giving goals away anyway last season with Eddie (not only his fault though). A change is needed, teams have got wise to the passing out from the back. We’ll probably concede fewer with a good shot stopping keeper and if the ball is launched upfield instead of rolled out to Akanji for example.
Can’t see that much of a change in style, Pep has always said a ball launched is giving the ball away at least half the time and didn’t see much of PSG but doubt Enrique is a launch the ball coach either. IF we buy Donnarumma and I still have my doubts he’ll still be expected to pass the ball out and build from the back.We aren’t buying technical players like Reijnders, Cherki,to play with Rodri and bypassing them.

Dont know how realistic this is but TH on X is saying that the club could be playing a bit of a game here and that bidding for Donarumma (or making it known that we are supposedly after him is forcing utd to go for him now...utd want a keeper and they also want Baleba (we also want Baleba but not till next year) - utd cannt afford both Baleba and Donarumma now so by forcing them to get Donarumma now paves the way for us next year to get Baleba
Then we should sign Baleba this summer then
