He isn't a bit worse though, Trafford is a bit worse, Donnarumma is a lot worse, and the supposed weakness in the air bothers me a bit.I'm happy to see what happens and not sure it will ,do find it quite hard to get my head round though.
The way I see it, he is a a high profile top level keeper that the club rate but wouldn't have gone for earlier, because a) he wasn't available, and b) they didn't need to.

For whatever reason and situation at psg, he has become available. And with Ederson's situation, there might be a sudden need going into the end of the window. So the club have no doubt sounded him out, maybe even lined him up, as a replacement should it be needed.

If they actively wanted him as a keeper, they would just agree a fee quickly and let ederson go, even at a lower asking price. We have seen them do this plenty. The fact there is this waiting game, means they are simply comfortable waiting to see what happens, imo.

In the meantime, I think his agent is using that to attract interest from other clubs. The club aren't denying it, because there is truth to it, but it is also imo not as far along as assumed.

If Galatasaray make a decent offer for Ederson, the club will get Donnarumma and that will be that. If they don't, or if they leave it too late and Donnarumma ends up elsewhere, they will simply refuse offers and keep Ederson for the final year, and review again next season. At which point it may be a new top keeper as a no.1, or a new keeper to be a no.2 depeding on what Trafford shows this season.

Look what he can do better than Ederson! Why do fans always do this? Look for the negative? Bottom line ederson be gone now or next year! I understand what we losing when edersons leave, now am looking at Donna will bring in a positive way! It’s just looking at new signings in what they bring to us and his positives!

Yes but Enrique wants him out because of his kicking.

Just a concern for us given how Pep has set us up previously.

Unless we switch to how PSG built up from the back. Vitinha drops deep so he's between the two central defenders, he takes the short pass takes Donnarumma completely out of the build up. Then you've got the two ball playing defender, 8 and 6 together so even if pressed there's a way out.

That means you can have the amazing shot stopper ability without the weakness of his build up play. Watch PSG clips Donnarumma is rarely involved. Vitinha is the outlet

Maybe, but the point remains that Enrique wanted Donnarumma to leave because of his kicking.
But in the two years prior, Enrique didnt give a shit though? Bit suspicious you not think.

then again, We know Pep, always ahead of the curve, he’s done the ball playing keeper and won the lot. Now he’s going old school.

Might be a friendly bet between the two. Who can win the next CL and to make it harder, we use different keepers.

We'll leave it.

I just have concerns about his kicking/passing and that Enrique says this is the reason why he's getting rid of him. Perhaps it's a contract thing, I don't know.

I just know Pep has chosen a ball passing keeper in Bravo and Ederson and to a lesser extent, Ortega. So this would be a complete change.

Mbappe wanted out.

Donnarumma by all accounts didn't want to leave. I doubt the 'best goalkeeper' in the world has been kicked out because of contract issues. They would have come to a compromise.

He's gone because Enrique want's a keeper who his good with his feet. That's it.

It was well reported in both France and Italy for months that they wanted him to renew. They wouldn’t offer him the same terms as his existing contract because they got him on a free so gave him huge wages and they weren’t prepared to leave him way ahead of all their other earners and they’re moving away from their old model. So they gave him a deadline to agree a new contract or be sold. It really is that simple.

Noones calling him the best in the world either. He wouldn’t be the best in the premier league because Alison’s all round game makes him the best in the world currently imo. But at making saves and keeping the ball out of the net, Donnarumma is one of the best in the world no doubt.

Or so he says!

Anyway, nobody is denying DR is poor with his feet, by Pep's or even Enrique's standards.

Doesn't really mean much, if Pep has decided he wants to bring him in. It's not like he won't know that, or have thoughts what to do with that. Certainly not like it will be forced upon him with no say in the matter.

Let's see if it happens first, and then how it plays out.

Supposed weakness from Julien Laurens you mean? I watched the champions league matches last season and Donnarumma was imo the main reason they won it! His performance against Arsenal alone was ridiculous! The whole reliance on this keeper happy to let attackers press him and then pass around at the back is redundant now imo as teams have worked out just to not press us in that way and then it means we dont have the space to attack quickly hence we started going longer quicker last season? Every keeper has ability with their feet these days but Ederson is a freak and shouldnt really be the bench mark for every goalkeeper?
That too, but also if you look at the stat chart I posted yesterday he was the worst of the 4 keepers, including Ederson, on it.

If we buy him I will, just pointing out there are reasons why we might not.

People (mostly) arent framing it as a negative. They are simply pointing out the bloody obvious.

Why the hell is this so contentious, why does it seen to upset people so much?

It is a perfectly valid point of discussion, that every pundit, journalist, football supporter of other clubs, random in a pub and dick and harry seems to be having right now. That he is not a Pep type keeper and doesn't suit how Pep tupically plays. Yet mention it on a City forum where it is relevant, and fucking arms in disgust everywhere.

It is hardly a controversial thing to point out!

it would seem strange for Pep to change to a non ball playing keeper
After all he persisted with Bravo when he was struggling
Maybe it’s just a case of Donnarumma being available and he’s willing to adapt because Ederson won’t sign and there isn’t anyone else near his ball playing level - who knows

He refused a new contract before Christmas fella.
