Sheffield Wednesday on the brink… | Enter administration (p30)

If the Premier League was made up of teams from the biggest cities in the Uk it would look like this:
  1. Arsenal
  2. Aston Villa
  3. Birmingham City
  4. Brentford
  5. Bristol City
  6. Bristol Rovers
  7. Cardiff
  8. Chelsea
  9. Crystal Palace
  10. Everton
  11. Fulham
  12. Leeds
  13. Leicester
  14. Liverpool
  15. Notts County
  16. Nottingham Forest
  17. Tottenham Hotspurs
  18. Sheffield Utd
  19. Sheffield Wednesday
  20. West Ham Utd
Manchester is only 12th on the list
Greater Manchester is more than 3m people.

Leeds and Leicester are bigger cities than Manchester? You learn something new every day. Although some of what you learn is utter bullshit.
Listen mate I picked one website based on a request for a list by population.

I wasn’t trying to downgrade Manchester as I love our City.

What I was trying to point out and hope I did was just how underachieving are the cities of Sheffield and Bristol.

Don’t get too uptight about my list.

It’s all arbitrary really. It’s just what works now and historically from an administrative perspective and London and Manchester have taken a multi-council model instead of creeping into neighbouring towns like Leeds has done. I would guess that the way Manchester is surrounded by strong towns close by in all directions means that these places have always had the strength to stand alone whereas Leeds has/had smaller communities who historically wanted to piggyback off the wealth of Leeds.

That doesn’t make sense. You’ve pulled some clubs from lower divisions e.g. Notts County, but not others e.g. Millwall.

Also, Coventry is bigger (and far badder) than Nottingham, as are Stoke and Bournemouth (although only Nottingham is a Core City).

There are a lot more fingers in Stoke though.

I'm not uptight. There's a growing trend on here to tell anyone who disagrees with your (not you specifically) post that they are stressed, uptight, angry...

I just don't see how anyone could post a list of big cities and think that Leicester, Bristol or Leeds are bigger than Manchester.

No they are not.

Think you need to calm down, maybe go for a walk or something

Is the north stand ok to use again now?

Yes, the Trust have written to Sheffield Council to ask what has changed since the order to close it, has the work been completed etc

Hats off to the young lads last night, I know Bolton had 10 men for a lot of the game but a lot of the team were making their 1st team debut.

Also if it makes you all feel old one of our CB's was U18 player Earnie Weaver son of Nicky

Never knew that!

Just looked and they are from West Bridgeford, not Nottingham.
So technically they should be called Notts fores( as in nottinghamshire),which they hate being called
And Notts county should be Nottingham County.....er I think ; )

Wednesday fans whistling as a protest against Chansiri for the first minute of the match at Hillsborough yesterday. The club put a tannoy announcement out which only makes the whistling worse. And then Stoke score in the first 60 seconds. Which makes the atmosphere even more toxic.

City player Divine Mubarak scored StokeMs second in a 3-0 win.

Sadly the need the season from hell to hopefully force him out....... actually amazed that folk are still buying into it ?????
I know its blind loyalty but do they not realise they are funding a complete twat hanging around hoping for some kind of miracle.

Its an amazing football club with a brilliant fanbase that needs all the help it can get from the powers that be ...............but rather going after fookers that are destroying football clubs they go after folk that are doing the best for a club and its surrounding area because the said club is not playing fair for the red cartel

We went yesterday for the first game, we gave it a go but ultimately we don't have a lot from then bench to change a game like everybody else will.

A lot of season ticket holders didn't go, and compared to opening game last season (Vs Plymouth) the attendance was about 8000 down.

Also the trust's protest of "not a pound in the ground" looked a success, as the kiosk's on the concourses pre game/HT were virtually deserted compared to normal.

I'm not sure myself as a ST holder if I go to more games or not, it's dead money either way.

If he's still here come renewals for next season (and based on his previous cash grabs could be even earlier than normal) I won't be renewing until he has sold the club.

The problem we have as football fans is blind faith, and the clubs know this and prey on this.
