Rico Lewis | Set to sign a new 5-year contract (pg33)

Why would be open to allowing him to leave? There's no benefit to it other than money and we aren't desperate for money. It just gives us a smaller squad for the season and we saw how that went last year. Makes zero sense. I call bullshit.
Someone mentioned In the transfer forum that Lewis had an offer from Forest the other day. Inside info, so it looks genuine.

I think he’s progressed well in midfield for his age. He moves the ball forward well and links up with Haaland far more frequently per minutes played than Foden ever has (Foden hasn’t got that pass through to Haaland from Bratislava away that Lewis played in his locker).

But his general play isn’t as good as other players in midfield and defensively he’s not great so he’s not going to be a big game starter for us there for a while.

He’s not a right back for me. He should only play there as a filler.

If he would be happy to be a squad player for a good few years (don’t forget he’s only 20) and see where he is when he’s in his prime in five or six years, to see if he’s good enough to be a key player by then, then by all means let’s keep him.

All good teams need rotation squad players. He’s ideal for games against 8th and below in midfield with one of the more elite players alongside him, and at left back against weaker sides in Europe and the domestic Cups… if he’s happy with that for the next five years, then I’d definitely not want to lose him!

He’s a local lad, a Blue, he’ll care that bit differently than other players and by the time he’s in his late 20s he could be a good voice in the changing rooms for the younger lads.

I don’t get this obsession with our fanbase on wanting to get rid of players and get new ones in they’ll only moan about and want out of the club in 18 months time. People have no patience at all.
Yep, players like Butt, Brown, O’Shea have rooms filled with medals and caps at home, despite knowing they were never first choice for the odd lot. And all moved on for paydays later in their careers

My thoughts exactly.
He's still learning his trade, he's not even played 60 games over the last 3 and a half seasons, not even 21 yet, he has time on his side.
I think he'll be signing a new deal before long.
He’s not going to learn to get taller and stop falling over after any physical contact. 30m I wouldn’t bother but if forest want to go higher then let’s do it

Problem we have is the club have already briefed the media saying there was no viable option at RB so I really dont see us selling Rico. Especially if we wanted to give him a new contract anyway.

That said the club are also saying Savio and Eddie aren't for sale when we all know they are both going.

I always thought we'd still try and move for a RB this window but thought we'd prioritise keeping Rico over Nunes but that said if the player is pushing for it we know Pep's viewpoint.

Surely any game time in the middle should be O'Reilly's though? Given he has all the attributes to become top class.

This doesn’t make any sense to me. Lewis leaving frees up no squad space, he’s got a few years left on his deal too. Unless we need the money from a PSR perspective I don’t get it, Livramento would have to be on the cards otherwise we should keep him at least another year.
Think it would only happen if Lewis wants it, and think he’d only want if he wants to be playing in midfield not as a full back. Wasn’t he rumoured to be having a sit down with Pep about his plans?

End of the day he is in no way a full back, in fact he is bordering on a disaster there.

However, in midfield he is a nice tidy player that can offer quite a bit to a team. Is he going to play there though this season considering how stacked we are in midfield?

I’ve a soft spot for him. Academy product, humble and I love his willingness to play different positions and learn his trade. Loved it when he scored on his debut in the CL.

However, the reality is he isn’t quick or strong enough to be a RB for us and isn’t authoritative enough to get in our midfield so he’d be limited to home games v the lesser sides and silly cup games. Not good for his development.

On balance, if a fair offer came in and we had a proper RB lined up I’d let him go.

It’d also mean I didn’t have to read pages and pages of Dorises moaning about how everything is his fault in every Matchday and post match thread.

He's going nowhere.

Quite settled in his new house in Failsworth.

Not even Forest offering double his wages will tempt him.

Footballers should know better that they can never get truly settled and take for granted their place at a football club, especially one like City.

If £40m comes in for him, City are selling.

He ain't going to play right back because he is terrible there and the midfield is now stacked.

He is a very average footballer, who was extremely lucky to have broken through at City. In any normal circumstance, where Cancelo and Walker were in front of him, he would never have played anything more than the odd Carabao Cup game but Cancelo and Walker somehow contrived to be awful/dickheads at the very same time.

Them leaving the club and injuries to others, effectively handed Rico the RB slot on a plate but he has been so dire, he has somehow managed to lose it to a midfielder, who himself had largely been frozen out, because he was no good as a midfielder.

IMO, we have 2 backups fighting for the RB spot and Nunes is the better of them. If £30m+ is offered, we should snap their hands off and go and buy a 1st choice RB.

If Rico is regularly playing in midfield this season given our other options, I would suggest that our season will have gone to shit and we are on our arse.
