Rico Lewis | Set to sign a new 5-year contract (pg33)

If we go into next season with Matheus Nunes as our only "right back" then we're fucking idiots.

I don't want to hear "I think Khusanov can do a job there" or any similar bullshit.

We needed one this summer anyway but I was under the impression the club can't identify one. If that's still the case then I have absolutely no idea why we'd be entertaining any offers for the two we have.

There’s no such thing as extreme luck when it comes to breaking through at City. Especially when you go on to play fairly consistently. As long as the team has a structure and is settled he’s more than good enough to play a part.

He’s a much better player than Zinchenko was and he played a role in multiple title wins. Rico can do the same with the added bonus of being an academy grad.
He got very lucky, he had Walker and Cancelo in front of him and he didn’t break through because he was a better player than them.

I’m not having that he is a better player than Zinchenko was.

He’s a blue, through and through, and has a massively high ceiling. But I think he needs to grow into his ability which I think will come with regular game time.

The fact they’re willing to double his wages yet he’s still undecided says it all about him.

If he goes then we NEED a right back. None of this Khusanov/Akanji shite. Our tactics so far in pre-season (CWC included) have been attacking full backs. They can’t do that role.

Crazy that they didn't know/find out this earlier to get Aina ina transition phase rightback at least.. I feel its impossible now with the Homegrown "issue" to let him go really.

Your reasoning is poor. You’re knocking a (then) 17/18 year old for not being better than seasoned vets? He broke through because Pep was looking for something different and he found it in Rico. That’s not luck.

Can agree to disagree on that one but Rico is only 20 years old and looks to be improving year on year.

Don’t think identifying one is any issue, making room for one thats available is. Letting Lewis go doesn’t help in that.

I think Pep loves him too much to let him go, he’s a favourite like Bernardo and Gundo

I hope this isn’t true. The transfer policy seems to be get rid of all young players, keep the old experienced players and spend huge amounts of money on ready made players.

It feels very short term thinking to me. Why not sell Bobb and Oreily?

The amount of abuse Rico has got from so called city fans has been ridiculous as well.

Good luck to him if he goes, always works himself into the ground. Imo he's a good footballer but not a top footballer.

I think the challenge on Vinicius in the CL last year broke Pep.
