Rico Lewis | Set to sign a new 5-year contract (pg33)

Sorry I know many would sell him, but for me its a no don’t do it.

1. too many outgoings to replace will heavily weak our Chemistry.
2. we would need a replacement, market is dead on rb.
3. no I don’t want to see Akanji or Khusanov as the replacement to play there.
4. one of our own + homegrown who is fully integrated in our squad. No time for sentimentals but I‘m convinced he has high potential and if Pep believes in that too then there must be something.
5. take the joke, because its Rico…
Like mcatee mate,he's not gonna be good enough to start in his true position. Take the money re invest

British fans, generally speaking, place pace and physicality high on the priority list. This poll is no surprise to me, but I find it deeply disappointing, both in my view of his potential, as well as his current skills, and our lack of patience in allowing young talent to develop.

Should Rico leave, then he will go with my absolute best wishes. I hope he has a long, successful career, and I believe he will. I would hope that he, like James Trafford, earns his spot back in the team. We may not reach the point of him going, but the sources have a decent reputation, and I am saddened by the prospect. Nevertheless, City are my team and I will support whomever his replacement is going to be, if indeed there is going to be one.

We have a clutch of young players coming through who have the potential, IMO, to be serious players in the game: Mukasa, Mfuni, McAidoo, and Gorman, just as four examples. I do hope that we can offer the patience needed for those players to develop with us. Luckily for O'Reilly, he has the physicality so revered, as do Mukasa and Mfuni, so they may get an easier ride from some. Gorman is a different player, but so, so technical - patience my friends.

People saying he isn’t good enough are surely missing two things no I don’t mean the fact he is home grown or that I disagree with them on his ability or even that it’s a squad game.

One he is perfect for the inverted fullback role

Two the market in RB is rubbish.

He might not be good enough as a conventional fullback and you might want to play that way most of the time ( I do) but we won’t always. Inverted fullbacks are hard to find and expensive and not home grown let’s keep him

Well its my opinion but McAtee never looked settled in the team. Ghosting around the pitch 80% of his time. Also its different because of the options in the team. McAtee is not a wide or a inverted winger. In the middle is his best position but to play for us in the middle you have to show much more presence to get the Ball and move on forward. McAtee never looked like he has the dynamic to take the ball go forward 5-10 metres one or two moves to remain his Space and create danger.

I loved Rico especially when he first made the first team, but his progress has stalled a bit in the last 18 months

He's not a complete right-back and he's not good enough to be our no 6 or no 8. If an offer comes in for 30-35m (with a buy-back clause) like McAtee, it doesn't make sense to not take it. That's a good fee (and pure profit for PSR) for someone who will barely get minutes this season

44 appearances for us last season, Pep clearly rates him so find it odd that he's given ok. This and Ederson out for Donnarumma, it's like Lijnders has fully taken over lol.

Anyway, I don't particularly rate Rico, though I think that's more of how Pep deploys him almost as an inside forward, leaving him/us exposed all the time. But he is clearly a very technically gifted player, like you wouldnt be shocked if someone said he came out of La Masia.
Anyway, 30mil for an English midfielder who at 19/20 years old played 44 times for Pep Guardiola last season is far too low.

30m is way too low but then I've been pretty vocal about how much I rate Lewis. Again, if he does go it'll be interesting where he's deployed, particularly forest who have a decent RB in situ already.

One obvious thing you seem to be missing, he sounds like he wants to go.

Again we will have to cede some value if we want the buyback and sell on clauses, let’s just wait and see.

No issue with him going, it’s a shame when a city supporting academy lad doesn’t make it but he is nowhere near good enough. Accepting the likes of Lewis as first team players is where are standards are slipping and hopefully this is a sign of that changing. That being said; it would be absolutely mental to sell our only recognised right back without a replacement in mind

I like Rico
But for me he is too safe and doesn’t offer anything other than ball retention.
We need players of a higher quality to compete with the psg, Madrid, Liverpools.
I think he could be a decent player in midfield at another team
Hope he goes to forest and kicks on

I think the fact that Rico Lewis has come through the academy, city fan which makes him one of us gives him a bit more leeway from supporters compared to a signing...

I would have loved Rico Lewis to succeed at the club, I love the academy players making it as first team regulars it's absolutely brilliant and more enjoyable when winning honours.

Although he's still only 20 and alot to learn in the coming years, Personally I don't this is the right fit for Rico at this time, His career has come to a bit of a standstill in development, Nobody still knows his best position in the team (it's certainly not right back), I think he's better playing higher up the pitch in and advanced midfield role and it's a position we are stacked in at the minute.

Selling to Nottingham Forest and inserting a buy back clause would be very good business for all parties.

The poll ''Would you sell Rico Lewis at the right price?", is a loaded question. Typically inappropriate. I voted on the basis of the reported bid of £30m. Chelsea paid £42.5 for Cole Palmer. If Forest offered that much, I'd be tempted, but I don't think I'd sell. CP was a bad egg, Rico is a good egg.

I wonder where Rico would play at Forest? I know he signed a new deal but i wonder if we try for Aina within the deal?

Selling Rico is a no brainer.

The academy is churning out some very good premier league players.

City need to upgrade the RB position now Walker is gone. Rico is not the solution.

Use the money wisely and get a proper player for that role.

The only reason Rico got so many minutes is down to his versatility.

The academy is doing a brilliant job funding the first team.

This current version of city can’t give Mcatee nor Rico time like Phil.

Palmer wanted out so different and we had Sterling/sane/Mahrez/bernie so timing wise sucked.

Need to stop the panicking over academy players. Only the truly exceptional will cement a place in the team.
Rico wouldn't be in my starting 11, but he leads aged 20, he will develop, he's homegrown, he's versatile, he makes great forward runs into the pen. area and I think he can become a goalscoring midfielder.

To be honest, if I were him I would go to Forest. They will play him. We won't. We are trying to win titles, and you can't afford to play Rico at no.8 when you have Reijnders there. But from City's perspective, I don't think £30m is enough. We need squad players. He played a lot of games last season as cover for injury or in Cup games.

It's a cut throat business winning trophies and we don't have the time or the patience to let good young talents progress with us (Phil being the exception). As the dippers have done this season.
I think all the big teams do it. It's a shame, but it's just the way it is.
Go and have a great career, guys. I hope to see you back in one form or another. I always get emotional and moist when they fly the nest.
