11 | Jeremy Doku - 2025/26

Doku will have a great season. And I will remind people of that prediction in 5-6 months. Don't forget he was one of the better players in the CWC.

Naturally, some of those who performed well in the US aren't in form yet. Generally, most players played no more than 90 minutes in friendlies before yesterday.
I hope that you're correct in your assessment of Doku.

For me... Doku is still unplayable when dribbling 1-v-1 or even 1-v-2 on offense.

Yet his end product remains shit - passes after beating defenders are wayward, and if he gets a shot on goal, it's mostly disappointing.

For me... Doku isn't good enough - at all - to be our first choice right winger.

Whilst not everything went his way yesterday, I can see signs he is working on stuff e.g. accelerating outside and first time left foot cross, link ups with nearest player etc. That's quite a style difference from a year or two back when he more or less just cut in and was snuffed out.
I would like to see Rodrygo as our top notcher out there but well worth a role in the squad

I like having him in the squad as he offers something different from anyone else we have.

That said, I still think his overall level isn't particularly great. Despite still bring pretty young, I just don't see him kicking on to being a way better player he is now.

He's certainly a very useful player for us, but in 5 years from now, I don't reckon he'll be at one of the biggest clubs as a starter, not in the Premier League anyway.

Say what you like about Sterling but he was always at the back post, hence the amount he scored for us.

Looking at Haaland's second, even before Bobb gives it back to Reijnders, Doku should be steaming forward to the back post for a tap in but he's no notion of such things.

When can be said about Sterling ?

Comparing him to Doku is nonsense.

Drunk Grealish > Doku :D
I'm not comparing them directly as players, I'm saying that you can rate/not rate Sterling but he knew where to pop up for his goal.

If Doku had that inclination as a winger I'd understand a little bit the notion that some have to actually rate him.

What's sll the talk about him being poor? Pur in the first dangerous cross, and set up Bernado for the cross that Erling couldn't put on target.

I thought he was decent. Defensively a bit off. But was good going forward and recycling the ball.

Wasn't great but not bad by any stretch

It’s always his fault when Haaland somehow hides behind the defenders. Poor guy. Can’t do anything right. Expected to outdribbel 3 defenders all the time without an overlapping fullback.

My observations re Doku:
1) His pace is restricted to 5-10 yds. He cannot sustain it over a longer distance so if he has a break form the half-way line he is usually caught by his defender. As a winger we need someone with all round pace.
2) When he does get the ball out wide and is a relative short distance from goal he slows play up by his lack of decision making whether to go outside or cut inside. Those seconds allow defences to be a bit better organised hence why so many of his attempted crosses are blocked.
3) We all recognise his defensive frailties and finishing weaknesses and it remains to be seen as to whether they will improve but his progress since joining has not been great.
I really don't know whether we should sell him so I leave that to our management team.

The problem he has is Doku subbed on with 20 minutes to go is currently 10 times the player of Doku when he starts. Absolutely worth a place in the squad and he won us loads of points last year but he's just infuriating sometimes.

Doherty with help from Hoever did make it difficult for Doku as he played further forward than Bobb who often received the ball deeper than Doku over the the right so had more time and space and was involved in more play in more areas of the pitch than Doku.

Doku did do a few good things in a short spell in the first half but did struggle to get over the advantage line in terms of overall performance, and when he did, Wolves brought him down for a City free kick so Doku couldn’t get at the box.
He also wasn’t great defensively.

He wasn’t poor though, nobody was.

Thanks Psychedelic so much better phrased than me fffing and jeffing so early in the season.
Kid did okay in an away win :-)

Asked AI to compare Doku and Palmer in terms of goals and assists per played minutes for the entire 24/25 season, all club competitions.

The shocking part: Palmer has contributed a goal/assist every 131 minutes, Doku every 132 minutes...

Discounting penalties, Doku has more goals/assists per 90 than Palmer!

Palmer has been poor since January, though.

Wanted to say this... you said it first and better

I guess Doku is gonna be the new scapegoat
