Arsenal thread | 2025/26

I don't care how rich he is, I agree with you mate what a gift to a charity that was. Top fella I hope he gives himself a pat on the back he deserves it.
I'll give Rice his due.

Off the pitch he comes across as a decent human being. He's smitten with his missus who he defends on a regular because of toxicity aimed towards her as she isn't a wag type attention seeker. Also fair play he has his head screwed on financially with gestures such as the charity one.

IMHO he's should be our captain. I know there's was controversy this week when Tony Adams said Rice should be captain as he' more in line with the traditional Arsenal values (the same Tony Adams who as Arsenal captain spent some time banged up in prison) but I think Rice would be a better choice, particularly as Odegaard was rubbish last season.

Maybe installing Partey as Captain would have been a more interesting choice ;-)

Can some of our resident tarquins explain to me why Odegaard is so shite these days ?

I know it’s only one game into a long and demanding season, but I wasn’t particularly impressed with cheating Arsenal.

I know they were up against a poor lower mid-table bunch of bus parkers, but they seemed to have no idea or spark in their play..

And Lego head's don’t lose at all costs tactics were plain to see.

Arsenal quite interesting this year. I would not put much weight on one game in separation. Arsenal should have lost points today but they did not and got 3 pts at OF, which is far from given even for prime City. They gonna be a threat, although a few questions for me.

Zubimendi. Hes top player generally, but when playing very well pre season i been arguing hes main challenge in PL gonna bo to cover enough ground. Today i thought hes been main reason Arsenal looked so open in the middle. Arteta needs to make some smart tweaks there, both Rice and Zubimendi looked poor in todays set up

Transfers. Again, they have done some risky bets this summer. Madueke/Norgard is questionable for me. Good players, but Arsenal needed to invest at the star level LCM and LW, not only squad supplementing. If they want the best out of LCM position (Rice has some world class attributes, but not really on the ball during the open play) or Martinelli or Odegaard they need to provide real competition. Whose gonna believe that Norgaard has a shout before Rice or Zubimendi. Im gonna give Gyokeres a benefit of doubt, but hes got to the highest football level pretty late in his career and im not sure how its gonna work - for some it did (Vardy, Toni, even Mahrez to some point), for others no (Gilardino, Luka Jovic, Michu, Huntelaar, Kezman). Should not be really judged before few months.

During Mikel’s tenure, there were more controversial transfers. Overall, Havertz’s contribution holds up (I take into account that he is very hard-working and puts in defensive effort), but he is not the kind of star who will make the difference in the final third. Jesus and Zinchenko been of assistance very short term. Calafiori is quite incredible offensively, but injury prone and sometimes a suspect defensively - I would say hes today performance ilustrates it well as on the one hand scored a winner, but on the other Mbuemo first half had often an open channel.

Pressure. That’s why it’s interesting to see how Arsenal and Arteta will respond to pressure. Because it undoubtedly exists, especially from their own fans. It’s a heavy burden to play with the feeling that we have to win here and now, particularly since that feeling has been building for several seasons already.

So my prediction is that if stars alligne for Arsenal they could be in the title rice and could grab a cup, but I think City and Liverpool have just a noticeably higher ceiling as things stand.

For me, both Martinelli and Saka are overrated. Particularly Martinelli, who has a chicken named after him...... headless.

I was surprised how poor Arsenal were today. OK Utd were better but they did raise their game against the top 4 all the last few seasons. The Arse had numerous turnovers which their midfielders and forwards squandered and looked lost. Saka was terrible. Their new signings all look lost and bewildered and only their defenders won them the game.

Keep playing like that and they will not even achieve top four!

These guys are Anti Football. Outside of Leicester has there ever been a team that won the league playing like THIS? I remember the performance in 2024 vs Us, they were time wasting with a vengeance. It’s horrible to watch

Manure were the far better side, creating more chances while mostly keeping Arsenal out. If not for the keeper's gaff, it would have finished 0-0.

Pundits having high hopes for Arsenal point to Gyokeres as the missing peace to the puzzle - finally a true #9 to lead Arsenal to the league title. This is the first time I've watched Gyokeres - but for me, he's some big guy who isn't good on the ball, isn't fast, got totally schooled by de Ligt, and was basically a waste of space. Unless this game was a massive one-off horrible performance, there's no way that Gyokeres will help Arsenal at all.
