Ridiculous question
So was out for a few scoops in town with my team and walked into the Circus Tavern, full of Rag memorabilia including plenty of the Liver thief Best so said my piece to the barman and walked out - So which pubs in Manchester are Rag or Blue - Sawyers Arms anther Rag dump to avoid

That was known way back in the early 1960s.

As the song went: “There’s a Circus in the town, in the town, where Matt Busby is a clown….”

Always used to consider the Deansgate pub a rag place, mainly due to shed loads of Yoonited crap all over the walls (pre renovation - not been in since it's been done up). I think it's generally thought that a lot of Deansgate is Rag central.

Northern quarter on a matchday is a big blue area, I've always assumed the Waldorf is a blue boozer.

Loads of Rag landlords in Town who get the Rag memorabilia across the walls:
Old Nags Head
The Abercrombie
Circus Tavern
Grey Horse
Sawyers Arms

Others with Rag landlords who dont have Rag stuff on the walls:
Peviril of the Peak
The Deansgate
The White Lion
The Oxnoble

We used to have more in the Maine Road days but that decreased in number for some reason:
The Shakespeare
Atheneum
The Rising Sun
Briton’s Protection
City Road Inn
…don’t seem to be City pubs anymore

Mother Macs was a City pub with City memorabilia but the Rat & Pigeon isn’t anymore.

Other City pubs:
The Vine
The City Arms
The Waldorf
Crown and Anchor

There are other pubs Blues frequent on a matchday at the North East end of Town (New Cross, Ancoats, Northern Quarter, Piccadilly Basin, Piccadilly), but you wouldn’t know they were Blue pubs on a non-matchday.

I drink in pretty much all of them. I’m always in the Abercrombie on a City matchday. Don’t give a shit if theyre Rag hotspots, try not to let anyone stop me enjoying pubs in my city apart from a very small few.

The Oxnoble has changed ownership recently and is now firmly "neutral". They have stopped showing live sport and now concentrate on food and cask & craft beer.
They've made it more family friendly welcoming families with kids taking in visits to the Science & Industry Museum across the road.

Mulligans is also a big rag place which is a shame as the Guinness is fantastic, was in there about a year ago whilst they were playing and they lost which was hilarious.

Is Tib Street Tavern still there? That always had a lot of City in.

I used to drink at Cord as well which was where all the well dressed City lot would go.

Maybe coming to the derby with the missus recommendation for a good pub in the town/northern quarter Was thinking Mary d’s but she may be scarred after going in there!

Random question years ago I went to a sports bar felt like it was in ancoats but cannot remember the name for the life of me does anyone know if it’s still there. Down a side street pizza place in the corner, clock tower type building opposite ? Winding me up trying to think of it lol

Shakespeare's neutral now isn't it? Heard they host rags and blues on their home matches.

Haven't been in years

Deansgate end mostly Red with some exceptions like The Rising Sun. Northern Quarter and Ancoats mostly Blue as is the back of Piccadilly. Oxford Road is mixed. Lots of students and was Blue in the Maine Road days. Over the river into Salford is Red.

Agree with these but the Rising Sun still pretty Blue. United don’t drink much in town in match days as so many are not locals.

Tib st is neutral now. Cant go in wearing colours at all.
Seven Brothers always seems pro blue to me

Second City in Cutting Room Square I think you’re thinking of.

Had two incarnations in the square, a bigger unit that has now changed to a hair salon and then moved to a smaller location opposite Rudy’s Pizza but has since changed to American Pies.

That would have been Second City in Cutting Room Square. Rudy's is the pizza place and St Peters is the clock tower.
I think Second City has closed now though. It wasn't particularly a City bar, but had the footy on whatever team was playing. Being close to the stadium obviously had lots of City fans in on match day.

Edit: Bloody hell, bluebanana got up at half past 2 in the morning just to beat me to that, jeez.

That’s the one second city thanks! I also remember going with a couple city mates into I think it was the green? Opposite the Dakota hotel. But when I came to our game against you last season looked like that also closed down. Think we’ll have a walk round the NQ or printworks. So if you hear two whiny yam yam’s it’s me haha

As a minor extension to your list..which is accurate as far as I remember!...Rosies Bar was pretty blue, and Placemate 7 only attracted reds with suicidal tendancies.

As more and more city centre pubs are being more closely managed by parent companies, or taken over by a newer generation of landlords, you'll see less and less affiliation to either club. The nature of business now means that they want as much business full stop as possible, not wanting to lose swathes of customers by labelling the pub one way or the other. I think many of the rag pubs mentioned have been ran by the same people for many years, I suspect as and when they change hands, the affiliations may end, or at least be toned down.

Circus used to have quite a few City pics up at one time but they were taken down and the walls were turned into a replica of a sad southern rag's bedroom. Luckily there are plenty of other pubs in town.
