Spurs (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

My problem with post matches after a game like that is posts and supporters at the ground calling out individual players and slagging of young players. When the senior players and team as a whole were awful.
He is now 20 not a kid he’s played 100 games for us and he’s about to get a 5 year deal I think we will call him the fuck out if we like

Oh here comes the forum gobshite. They don’t score the 2nd for starters and we don’t spend the 2 nd half smashing the ball back to Tottenham. How many usernames have you had on here eh Tom. Tool.
Our strikers missing sitters had nothing to do with the keeper. Our players not stringing two passes together had nothing to do with the keeper. Our team setting up with the highest of lines that we can’t perform properly has nothing to do with the keeper. Yes he was at fault for the second, Ederson has made that pass a million times and cost us goals, if I recall correctly once against spurs in a very similar fashion. We’d have lost today and comfortably with Ederson in net, due to the fact he can’t save shots at his goal, unlike Trafford who made two very good saves at the end. Nobody clambered for Ederson last week but the first sign of trouble virgins run on here believing our problems are down to a keeper. It runs much deeper than that and starts in our dugout.

I love Pep. He took us to a level we never thought possible. But I honesty think it’s time to change. New coach new idea. We need a breath of fresh ideas vs the same ole same ole week in week out. Teams figured out how to play against us. It’s just getting embarrassing now.

We could gel but our defence is absolute dire and that won’t change I mean some bright fuckers doesn’t even think we need a fucking right back . Criminal .
Some still think Rico is that player as well. Tidy player at times but not a RB for the level we require.

Well that was crap.
Spurs were well drilled and excellent at pressing.
Sadly they will do well.
Our getting out of the press was probably the worst i have seen from a Pep team. Stones and Lewis were in trouble all game. Indeed that was the worst I have ever seen Stones play for us.
Honestly, we have the best forward at foot races in the league. Knock it down the channels and/or over the top for Haaland to run onto, and you've broken the press.
That will also keep the opposition honwst on pushing so many players forward to press also giving us more time on the ball at the back.
It really isn't rocket science, let alone rocket engineering.

Still very raw and obviously the missed chances were crucial but that was a very surprising and very depressing performance. Some made the point when the team was announced about Reinders being isolated without Bernie and so it came to pass - a learning experience for Pep and hopefully a changing one too for all our sakes. Tbh I'm not confident it will be.

LOL..

Only on bluemoon

And the clown takes of Trafford is no good after two games..

/rolleyes

Rare that I'm truly negative, but there was nothing, absolutely nothing good about that performance. No posititives to take away from the game whatsoever.

Hate to say it but I think it's time for a new guy at the helm.

Anyone else surprised by that? Im not in the slightest nd lets not get this twisted...where did Spurs finish last season? 15th?

Since last year and over the summer transfer window numbers on here have spoken about the need for a number of things that are not going to work

1. Rico Lewis at right back - I was happy to see him linked away...absolutely awful to see he has been given an extended contract.. We played better last year when he wasnt on the pitch. He is woefully unaware defensively on a consistent basis, He is physically weak and easily bullied, he slows down the attack when in possession, barely creates anything and gives the ball away consistently...and is Nunes an improvement on this...No

We either buy a right back in the next couple of weeks or we are going to struggle again. The only other alternative to solve this issue is to play Khusonov at right back or at least drop one of Stones or Dias and play him at right sided centre half. At left back I said at the start of the transfer window we needed two left backs - others screamed - we have Ake or Nico OReilly - yeah but one is injury prone and one isnt a left back - when you start saying "oh but x or y can play there/put a shift in there you are basically saying you are accepting a downgrade in player.

2, You cannt play Reijnders and Cherki in the same team...both cant defend. I said in the pre match thread there was a danger of the midfield being exposed - it was overrun. This leads onto point 3.

3. We need defenders who can defend 1vs1 - we dont really have it...Stones is ok t it...as is Ake (and we talked about the known injury issues with both of those). Dias is awful at it.

4. Goalkeeper - I said weeks ago that if we are going to play Trafford then our style of play has to change...we are at present caught between two styles....When Trafford kicks long it comes stright back to us as the team isnt et up to do it...but you could also clearly see that the back 4 were not as comfortable in giving the ball to him under pressure. I said teams will press more - exactly what spurs did for the second goal and consistently throughout the game. Ederson needs to be in goal and be number 1...if that cant happen (ie he doesnt want to stay) we need to change the ay we are playing as we cant play out from the back....especially again with Rico Lewis and Dias (and Ake)

5. Wingers who produce very little. Marmoush is wasted outwide but is he a number 10...im not so sure.? What he gives you in shooting and goal scoring potential from outwide we lose in any potential to go outside the fullback. Doku at least tried (and succeeded) to get balls into the box...but again he is unpredictable and wasteful). Oscar Bobb on the other side is aa number 10 mascarading as a winger...hugely talented footballer but like Foden he needs to be central and is wasted outwde...but does he get in there ahead of others?

We just got deservedly beaten by a team that finished 15th...

Will we get better - yes. The patterns of play were not there which is clear, Cherki didnt seem to know his role/position(slightly worrying), Rodri will come back (but again number of people on here have said what happens when he aint there - we have just seen a taste of that)....Nico G has to improve or again we are in bother as there is no other alternative.

If we get Donarumma the playing out from the back will only get more and more risky
Point 4 is spot on. Unless Pep can fix this we are fucked. It’s fundamental.

Too many personnel changes in 8 months. Was Always gonna be an up and down season. But the keeper situation doesnt feel right. Even before today. Too soon for trafford for come to us and be no 1. No right back is not great. Marmoush is not a left winger. And Bobb like savinho before him probably not ready to be a starter.

Picked the wrong team today. So obvious what was coming from spuds. They do it too us a lot. Far too open in midfield. Transitional season ahead
Bobb was best player

I thought we got bullied by pace and power, that Spurs side is big. A welcome to the premier league for the two new lads.
If we are transitioning to a new system I think we got caught between two stools today, midfield looked completely in the wrong place for attacking and defending.
A lot of stray passes, too long or short and heavy first touches and too many touches and wrong decisions, hopefully just fitness.
Trafford head could have dropped but I thought he didn’t hide in the second half.
New stand looked good on the tele.
