Spurs (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

I bloody hate being right when i predict problems with the lineup pre-match. Reijnders ineffective deeper in the 2, lack of pace at fullback meant that first was wasn't possible to prevent, no telling if it would have played out like this but i feel like Nunes would have had the recovery pace to get to the squared ball for the first.
If Rico had been sprinting from the start, he’d have been there. If he had concentrated on just getting a toe on it, instead of clearing it, he’d have been fine, even though he didn’t sprint back from the outset!

And, I don’t even want to blame him for the goal!

As for the second and the general inability to get out, get used to it i'm afraid. I've been saying all along, the moment we dont have Ederson, we will see a return of being pressed high, we'll see lots more turnovers, get badly exposed and struggle far more to get up the pitch. We saw it all today and we'll see it most weeks. The crowd were already getting frustrated by it, dread to think what it'll be like in a few weeks when it's cost us more. Some of those that have become blind to Edersons impact will have their eyes opened.
It really simple…if you have a clear pass, where the player won’t immediately be under pressure, no problem. The ball should have been to Cherki, but Trafford had zoomed in on the short pass that wasn’t on and he didn’t have the composure to look up, or simply widen his view. Poor pass in a suicide location…and it killed us.

The 2 Pep’s have work to do. Will they do it?

Hugo also has work to do, and he really, really needs to do it!

Usual happy clapping nonsense. Listened to it all of last year too. Started when we were playing poorly despite topping the league , continued despite being 16 points behind by new year. Nowhere near the side we were and no sign of pep sorting it. Same mistakes over and over again. There is plenty of evidence that he wont sort it now. That's 10 defeats to spuds now despite them being shite for most of his tenure, the same amount of times hes lost to the dippers.
I hear you and I feel he should gone with more pace at the back. He has done it before as well. However the game could have gone differently. Spurs were all over the place for first 30.

Next time we should just try to counter them instead.

That's ohe of the most demoralising opening home games of the season I have seen. Pep needs to make massive changes. Reijmderd snd Bobb are class. Trafford, Gonzalez, Rico and Cherki were awful. Marmoush is not a left winger.

I can not see that City team competing for the top 4 let alone the title. Spurs were better than us in every area of the pitch with the exception of Bobb and possibly Stones.
Marmoush isn’t very good full stop mate.

On that showing today there’s no way I’d be selling those cunts Savinho. I’d be putting him on the left wing and saying get on with it.

One more thing..
4 FUCKING MINUTES?
SERIOUSLY!
Don’t suppose it matters in the grand scheme of things considering we could’ve played till midnight and still not scored.
Still a fucking pisstake though considering how many times he told them to hurry up, even booked one for time wasting (too late), not to mention all the subs.

Absolutely awful. We were out hustled and out muscled by Spurs all over the pitch.

I’d be very interested if anyone has the stat for how many times we turned over possession today. It was a riduclous amount.

I’d like to say that was just a bad day at the office. Our squad was full of great players but they looked totally lost out there. I commented at half time that they were playing like strangers. It didn’t get any better in the second half.

It’s already starting to feel like this could be a long, hard season.

Square pegs in round holes. There are great players in the squad now but the system is poor. We play better without haaland in the team. Dias long term contract a mistake too. He's the worst central defender we've got.

Are

Are we in Shit or glory then?

In the Shit matey

Things need to settle down, We need to learn fast that the champions tag we had has long gone and needs rebuilding with hunger and fire in the belly. City has lost the fear factor and nobody else is going to give it to us without fighting hard for it.

Pep has a major problem for me ? its in the old guard he thinks is the safety net of this squad, Their Hunger is in question for me and i didn't like what i saw in Dias and Stone, also Lewis was out of his depth at right back and SORRY again for this but Haaland is coasting again

We have to wait on the transfer window closing before Pep has his final squad to play with
But Please Pep get Cherki higher up in the danger zones and Rodri has to start next week and every week

We will still be having this conversation in 3 months time. It's not like it's a one off or out the blue.

Last season was dogged by these sort of performances.
Nowt has changed for me.

A completely new midfield, no chemistry, poor performance.

Was surprised to see Pep starting Cherki. Both Cherki and Bobb are final third players. If we do not control the game playing in the opposition's 3rd, Cherki's efficiency is highly reduced.

Also, Lewis over Nunes is a questionable decision. Lewis is impressive for his age. Might become a top player. But if he was 25, he wouldn't be starting too many games for a team wanting to win the title. In any of the last 3 seasons, we improved only after he disappeared from the starting XI. Just not good enough YET.

Trafford had a bad home debute. He's too young for a keeper. Will have good and bad games.

Imagine if Akanji was Stones for their 1st goal. Half the posts would be starting with his name.

As I expected, it's going to be a slow start to the season. The talent is there, but a lot of work is needed. We were playing better football with the *uncs*. That's why Pep relied on them to make the top 4.

Imo, Rodri will come back and help us compete.

I think, or hope, this season will be like 20/21. We started with a win at Wolves and then lost 2:5 from Leicester. In December we weren't in top 4. Fans were writing Pep off. Gundo and Rodri were perceived as too slow. The rest is history.
The amount of people who put faith in history, mate...it's a completely different team, coming into their peak moments....this team is not

I think we need to remember we didn’t have a proper pre season and they have a solid one. Especially that match against PSG in the Super Cup. This was our first proper match
We would of had a decent pre season…if we didn’t make the exact same mistakes against fucking Al Hilal…
