Pep Guardiola - 2025/26

major problem imo we are still stuck playing the system or trying to that was very successful with prime Gundo, KDB, Walker etc, but squad changes a lot, profiles changed a lot, and this system aint getting the best out of current players. we signed lot of transition players vs possession ones. maybe Lijnders is here to make us change to more Klopp style, but this will take time and Pep needs to buy into it.

Pep int ready to change completely ad wont abandon his mains style but current squad wont cut it at high level possession football that can move the ball with speed and intention. we lose the ball a lot more than we should, and react very badly when we lose it. there is not much structure and midfield discipline in place.

Last season I agree but the season before we were hardly turgid, tired more like.

Accidentally watched this game 2-3 weeks ago, from 2023/2024 season.

This was the team, problem was that we were a little bit unlucky compared to treble winners

PL - won
FA Cup - final lost
CL - lost penalties against RM and thus lost the title, because that was the actual final of that CL campaign.

I miss Julian Alvarez, he was very productive and fitted in.
Miss Grealish of course, he was giving us something unique

How we regressed so fast.

Even 1 year ago, when we played against Inter in September or Arsenal after that (till Rodri got injured), we were still that great Mancity team.

Rodri injury started our downfall and only Rodri can resurrect us.

In that 2023/2024 season, I had a feeling that Rodri was more important than Pep for this team and I was right.
If Pep was gone and Rodri hadn't been injured, we would have easily won last season's PL title.

Can't say I didn't see this coming. The writing has been on the wall for a minute now. Myself and others took so much shit on here for voicing our concerns. Those who say they don't mind sliding back down from the top should sleep well because they won't have to worry about that not happening. The revisionist history is annoying too. Those who say we were shit for years so it's all good are missing one gigantic point. When we were not a great side we also weren't spending zillions. When you invest the way we do now in players, coaching, training, infrastructure and such of course expectations will be high.

We won the league and 4 on the trot but the signs were there. Teams scoring on there first attack and having to come from behind to win. Yeah the players dug in and got us over the line but the excuse was it’s hard to keep going year after year last year the excuse was injuries and this year will probably be to many new players. No one wants to lay the blame at the manager that his style just doesn’t work anymore as I said he’s going to stick around like Wenger and take us backwards at a rate of knots

I just hope if next few games dont go well which is quite possible as its Brighton, rags, Arsenal not an easy set of games (total of big fat 0 points from same fixtures last season),he wont start talking about how lucky we will be even if we finish top4 because how incredible the Spurs, rags Chelsea, Newcastle etc not mentioning Arse, dippers

players need to be in a mindset of winning the PL and not finishing in top4.

You could see this coming for miles. I've said so many times I hope I'm wrong but in my heart and with my eyes I don't believe I am. When you've won as much as Pep has it becomes practically impossible for most to be objective when that time comes. Strap in and hold on tight.

I think our downfall started In the FA Cup final against united. In that game we looked physically tired and mentally drained from several years of high energy high tempo pressing, and could not deal with the pace of Rashford Garnacho and Mainoo. We were poor and they deserved to beat us, sadly.

Before Rodri got injured it was evident we had peaked and on the way down. I wasn't surprised of our slump, but the speed of our drop off was alarming. Rodri aside our best players were well off their best (legs gone on Gundo, De Bruyne, Bernardo) and the amount of injuries we had compounded our bad form.

Pep looked burned out and his marriage split definitely affected him. I was surprised when he extended his contract as I thought he might quit, and if he had I would not of blamed him.

If he had quit and if Rodri not been injured no way would we have easily won the title as we were not even close to winning it.

Hope we don’t do an Arsenal/Wenger were we keep hold of him even though we are going backwards at a rate of knots
Yes, because it went really well when Wenger left....
The reason arsenal went to shit under Wenger is all their money was tied up in the stadium, so rather than build on that mid-late 90s side they were content to do just enough to finish top 4 so they got enough TV/cl money to pay for the ground.

I would say bring in Kompany ASAP but this current set of players are just mid, and would just result in poor results anyway.

The two things that made Pep one of the greatest to ever manage a football club have not really been on show for the past 18 months.

He used to tactically dominate sides in big games and make players better.

We can’t have won many games against the ‘top sides’ since our treble winning season. I also don’t think he’s improving many players anymore.

In the last 2 seasons:
Versus. W. D. L.
Liverpool 0. 2. 2
Rags. 2. 1. 1
Chelsea. 2. 2. 0
Arsenal. 0. 2. 2
Spuds. 1. 1. 2
FA Cup. 0. 0. 2
CL. 0. 1. 6
