10 | Rayan Cherki - 2025/26

Of course it is. We see it but we don't believe it. I get it. But all evidence of the last 17 months says otherwise.
Except players directly coming out and saying pep gives then freedom in the final third and the fact that doku tries to take people on constantly....

If you are thinking about Grealish ( which is where this bullshit narrative started as people were constantly trying to find excused of why Grealish didn't create much) then the fact of yge matter is Grealish is probably one of the most overrated players EVER...not just at city but in the prem league

Pep literally helped Messi become the best in the world and people think that Pep doesn't allow his players to get creative or dribble....this is Mark Goldbridge level of knowing nothing!

Deeply offended.

I'm not saying don't play cherki

I'm saying the balance isn't there when you play him and reijnders centrally. He also does not appear to be a player who we would want outwide

The balance could be there. Not too dissimilar to Kev and Dave.
Dave was always aggro and willing to get stuck in. That wasn't the case for Kev until Pep made it so. Then he had his best seasons in our shirt and became widely regarded as the best box to box midfielder in football.. If Pep can do the same with Reijnders then we could again be on to a winner..

Exactly

I always said that about David Silva - his football intelligence was off the scale (better than KDB's for me) but he was also able (despite being small) to handle the pjysical side of the game..

This is why I was commenting on Cherki's mentality when we originally bought him...He is going to have to develop that kind of mentality and physicality to his game (same with Reijnders) if they are going to be successful. All the talent in all the world with your feet doesnt go anywhere if you dont have the midset...you can see that in what Pep says about Messi when he describes him a "killer." - Does Cherki esp have that killer attitude - he is a street baller and a flare player who Ive seen described as "plays football for fun"..well thats NOT what we want or need. what we need is a killer, a serious player who just wants to win (Rodri/Kompany/Silva as opposed to Mario Balotelli for instance) - its about his attitude and a killer instinct (same with Reijnders) and the huge question is -does he have it?

I thought he worked his ass off but made a few costy mistakes in important areas in the first half, he was everywhere though.

I thought he was starting to find his grove when he was taken off and with him went every ounce of creativity in our team….

Should have stayed on.

Will get better and when it clicks will be majestic!

First home game in the PL. Some excellent stuff, and some stuff that he did wrong and will learn from. Young talented players in new teams and new leagues take time

he will need time. all new signings need time. dont think he will start very often this season. he needs to be careful in possession, and make sure he is seen as busting a gut when losing it. neither Pep or Lijnders will want to see him casually jogging off the ball.

Why did we buy him then if Pep doesn't like this type of player? It will take a while for the signings to bed in.
Correct. Moving to England from foreign shores to play centre mid is a tall order.
I remember Yaya and Silva ,away at Spurs 2010 ,both making their debut on the 1st game of the season In central midfield, under Mancini, both players, at times looked lost during passages of play, the speed of the game, the up and at it vibe meant they were passing strangers for much of the game, with the ball being in the air a lot more than they were used to, such was way the game was played back then....

As you say ,it will take time.

Just another football freestyler, who is physically nor mentally suitable to play a team game and follow instructions. Glimpses of brilliance, but the reality is oodles of costly mediocrity. He's not alone, the squad is full of them. We're fecked!
Good grief.

He was bad. I was against him starting. Before the match, I said we should keep the team that beat Wolverhampton, with only Khusanov in place of Rico Lewis and Marmoush in place of Doku. I was surprised that Pep used midfielder Nico Gonzalez and Reijnders Cherki, a Premier League novice. We need to integrate him gradually, give him time to assimilate Pep's system and get used to the pace and demands of a new league, especially against tough opponents like Tottenham.

He's not a 10, or a box to box midfielder. He played for Lyon as a right sided attacker. Honestly think we'd get the best out of him and Marmoush if we played them almost like old fashioned inside right and left, get the width from wingbacks, go 3 atb, and push Stones or Gvardiol into mf when we are attacking.

He’s small, fat and can’t run
