Savinho | City reject Spurs approach

We shot ourselves in the foot.

That Stones slip didn't help

Rico being slow to react didn't help

And Ruben not clearing when we were under the cosh definitely didn't help.. FFS take responsibility of a leader there.. it's better to lose the ball 40 yards from goal than 10 yards from goal which is what he pressured Trafford into.

Watching that back, that is absolutely wank. From everybody. An embarrassment of a goal.

Dias too soft. Lewis not fit enough to get back, Trafford neither here nor there.

Wank.

I see this too often from the most intelligent named Rico Lewis. Such an intelligent player. If you can’t name any strengths just call him intelligent

How is any of that Rico's fault? He was the only one of FOUR defenders who got back to attempt a challenge. If he'd gone in full bloodied for the ball, it would have likely ended up as an own goal.

Cos he tracks back at a canter and only speeds up when he has been overtaken by the attacker

Still going to be upset by this, think his ceiling is so high just want to see him in a Sane role, on the left as a proper winger

Think he only had a handful of games but that's where his assists came from for Haaland

Look on transfermarkt, hes far more effective off the left just like Sane

On paper €70mil is a great deal I just wish we saw him in the position I think he can do best for us... kinda reminds me that Alvarez we all thought £80mil was a great deal, but we would've been better keeping him

He's also too expensive for us to get a buy-back deal on him

Think we'll regret this

I think they just don’t want a left footer on the left especially now that Ait Nouri is being given a go

Frustrates me Pep doesn’t giving him a run on the left wing

Have you seen the complex role Rico's been asked to play? He starts as a RB, then inverts to a No 6, then in attack he's a No 8 & when the forwards need numbers to overload, he's a No 10.

If he's that far forward, it's not his job to be speedy Gonzalez & retreat to RB. That's the job of the right sided CB, whose central defensive position is supposed to be covered by the No 6.

When Rico (or Stones before him) gets back, it's at that point where he can resume his RB role. Rico's a footballer, not a triathlete on the marathon leg of his discipline.

Another crucial point you may have missed... When our inverted FB tactic led to wave after wave of victories & cup & title success, the world & his best mate adopted the inverted FB tactic, including Klopp with the Dippers & waistcoat for England. How many teams are still doing it today?

Look at Spuds yesterday. They played a 5-4-1 in defence & in transition they poured forward into the spaces we vacated & punished us. The warning signals were there against Wolves, however they didn't have the individual player quality to capitalise.

I said last week that if Wolves had better quality, they should've scored 3 against us. Against Spuds, their better quality in defence, transition & attack told, & since our mid-season collapse last November, this is yet another top team who we've failed to beat using our inverted FB system.

Little of this is Rico's fault. Our tactics have been sussed, but yet we persist. Pep Guardiola decides our formation & tactics, NOT Rico Lewis...

Yet since Juvé in the CWC, Ait Nouri's attacking instinct has been deliberately throttled, meaning whoever plays on the left is constantly isolated & facing 2-3 players, with only the option of trying to produce miracles getting past them, or passing the ball back or sideways.

Strange how spurs are desperate to sign someone who is injured? Or someone is lying…………
No one's taking Savinho's injury claim seriously. The longer this transfer saga drags on, the more of a mistake on our part it seems.

Bobb is a Right winger. Savinho & Doku are left wingers. Marmoush actually excelled as a No 10, not a left winger or as a No 9. Why does Pep persist in using key players out of position?

To compound matters, the speculation is that we want Rodrygo to replace Savinho, but Rodrygo also prefers playing left wing. Aside from goals scored, Savinho far outstrips Rodrygo in all metrics & he's 3 years younger.

This is bang on and it's something I thought Pep would have moved on from after his failed experiment of having Akanji stepping into midfield from full back.

It leaves us far too exposed especially without the pace of someone like Walker
